Mean old Winter

That's not my car, my car looks worse than that and I'm not going out until I have to. It's Winter. Not the pretty sparkly white winter we look forward to in July. No, that's past now. Now it's just mean and depressing. The car was dead as a hammer yesterday, I had to call the service guys. They towed it in for awhile to unfreeze and charge it. The cousins chopped me a path through the snow to get to the car. It's all frozen now, you can't shovel it anymore. And it's deep. Deep ice. I can actually walk on top of it now, but, when you fall through, it sucks. I put on my snow boots and they'd sprung a leak. They were sitting by the door and had a layer of solid ice inside them. Ew. I'll bet the ice sliced them. I dug in the closet and found my old ugly boots that don't leak. Sigh. The wind was just bitter yesterday, it burns your skin when it's like that. No one like this kind of Winter. I hope it doesn't last past January, it's just too hard to go anywhere or do anything.

I had avoided the shower for two days, because it's just too damn cold in here to get wet. The heater doesn't do much when it's below zero, it only keeps the pipes from freezing. But, I got in the shower and washed my hair this morning, 'cause I have to go see the doc today. When I got out, I braced myself for a freeze and wow, it wasn't that bad. It's above zero today. That means it's warm enough to snow some more. Ukk. We really don't need any more. I can't reach the bird feeders now, I'm resorting to throwing feed in the driveway, where the snow is sliced. They seem to be doing okay, the little birds. The Cardinals sure look pretty all fluffed out and bright red in the white ice. Most of the cats are staying inside now. I hope it stays above zero for a few days so everyone can restock for the next impact. This part of Winter is not fun at all.

I was thinking about LOL. Shouldn't we have an abbreviation for when we're laughing, but, not out loud? Like, LBNOL? Or LIS (laughing inside?) Or, JL (just laughing?) Or PAL (peeing a little?) I wish I wouldn't wake up so early. I hurts my brain when I'm out of coffee.

Yuk, that sounds horrible. We get snow but hardly ever do we get ice.

Hope your dr's appt goes well today. Are you able to walk there? I hope you don't have to drive there.

Hee hee...I like PAL, too.

I gotta drive. That's why I called the car service guys. It sucks. They fixed my defroster though, that's a life saver.

I can't imagine living like that!! I don't know how you all do it. I guess you acclimate to it.
Obviously, growing up in SC, I hate cold weather and am freezing my butt off this morning in 30 degree weather.
If I could move further south, I sure would.
Our snow consists of about 5 flakes every other year and that's how I like it.

i went out yesterday and got 2 40# bags of sunflower seeds for the squirrels and birds....saves me from going back out shopping this week, though i have a couple errands tomorrow....

i had 8 male cardinals and 7 females out there yesterday and blue jays, sparrows and squirrels....when it gets really really cold, in addition to filling up the feeders, i'll put some on the ground too as 'back up' then i don't have to go out everyday!

hope the dr. gives you antibiotics!!!

make a chant for yourself when your mother comes around!! "spirits protect me from her spirits protect me from her".....and focus on a calm image.....

and i understand things are easier said than done....i truly believe you can stay calm around your mom though...

Mean ugly winter. It is so depressing. It's hard to get happy when you have to work so hard just to survive. Stock up on vitamin D and more oranges and herb tea. Damn what a drag. Looks like your getting more snow today. Where you going to put it? I bet your running out of room to pile.

i like PAL. I'm usin' it. hope you feel better soon. My little one has it too. Cough medicine doesn't seem to work too long when you're woken up by that repeated nagging cough. I hear it 5 times and fall back asleep before my brain says to give her more cough medicine.

What is LENOL? How about just L for laughing? For the lazy typists.

Yeah, it was horribly cold last night. We live on a hill so we hear the wind racing. Oil delivery tomorrow morning..Thank goodness! The price keeps going up $2.71 a gallon right now..up 2 cents from yesterday.

Dr said i strained the muscles in my back. I have flexerall to loosen them up. Disc is fine. Now off to take this pill and go to la la land.

Dirty Disher said...

Oh, Heidi, I remember the terror when the propane or oil tank got low in Winter.

Tia, I'm so glad you got extra seed. I like that chant.

Noelle, we really are running out of room to pile it. The roads are all one lane. It sucks. It's so hard to get anywhere.

Oh, I got some antibiotics and I'm gonna make it to work today. Yay..cough. Bla.

Pat, I'm glad to hear you got antibiotics.
It's hard for me to imagine the freeze you have going there. We've had silver thaws before, and thick ice, but not like what I see in that picture. Yesterday we had an unforeseen (by the weathermen) snowstorm. It was beautiful. It is the part of winter you don't have right now, and what we do not often have, either. I think our grand total was around 3 1/2 inches. Just enough so you can't really see the junk my husband left in the yard when building the coop/shed. Of course, every nitwit who is scared of snow got out there to drive. The roads would not have been hazardous if it wouldn't have been for the turkeys that couldn't drive to save their sorry asses. My husband called in the afternoon to tell me that our son had an orthodontic appointment, and I tried, but couldn't get him there because of the "careful" drivers. It took us over 20 minutes to go five blocks on the main drag through town. Ridiculous. Just bumper to bumper, going about 5 mph max. We turned around, and came back up the short ways we had gone, and there were people who left 6-8 car lengths between them. How is anyone supposed to get anywhere? There was only an inch or less of slush on the road. I don't know if these people moved here since last year, or how on earth they managed to survive the 18+ inches with ice we had last year. :::rant over:::
I hope you are safe going to and coming home from work.

It's not so bad here, people are used to it, I guess and this town is so small, we don't have traffic jams. We have tractor jams..lol.

Changed my mind about work. Lissa is here. Her mom is having contractions. I think it's just those brackston hicks things, but, she went to the ER just in case.

Christina said...

Oh no! How far along is she? I hope it's just the Braxton-Hicks or maybe a bad burrito.

Dirty Disher said...

Shes not due until March 7th. I'm still waiting for word. I'm hoping she can hold off another 4 weeks. The baby is good sized, but, there are some problems. We'll see.

Dirty Disher said...

She's BIG though..I keep wondering if the date is off. I dunno.

Dirty Disher said...

Sigh. It's snowing like a bitch again. I knew it.

miss tia said...

hope lissa's mom and brother are doing well!!

we are due for more snow...we only have about 6 inches total...

i like the snow, provided i don't get an ice dam on my back porch roof! spent 5 hours last jan. clearing that as the water was pouring into my pantry! BAH!

@ Valle-

a pharmacist at my work told me to rub vicks on the bottoms of feet for a cough...I thought he was messing with me, but I tried it on my kid, and IT WORKED !!!!! something in the oils gets absorbed through your feet...might be worth a try?

Pat -
I use LQTM (laughing quietly to myself).

If she is due March 7 she is really early. If you mean what we used to call PIH, that can start at this point, or in the last few weeks of pregnancy. I hope that's not it.
I hope that whatever it was, settled down. Sometimes we see people come in with pain that turns out to be round ligament, or a bladder infection that causes contractions, etc. Could be any one of a number of things, but I hope they're all okay, and that she's able to carry this baby for another good six weeks or more
Even the best dates can be off by a couple weeks, though. Either way.
