Reminders..

You know what would be a good present for elderly people this Christmas? Pet food. If they feed the birds, buy, them a big sack of bird seed, or a bushel of corn for the squirrels. If they have pets, get them the giant size bag of food and stick a bow on it. I guarantee you, they will be grateful. Not only does it help them financially, but, old people just can NOT carry that stuff. I see them in the stores all the time looking longingly at the 50 pound bags of cat food, but, they pick up two tiny bags instead, because they know they can't lift those big bags anymore. Also, laundry detergent, cases of soda, anything heavy, would be a blessing to receive.

And parents..don't forget to buy a diff wrapping paper for Santa's presents. Kids are sharp, they spot that stuff.. LOL..dang kids.

A couple of years ago I bought bird feeders for the kids on my list. Now every year I get them bird food. My grandkids have theirs hanging right outside the living room window so they can watch the birds eat. They like it.
When my boys were little, I used to squeeze oxo cubes into little poo shapes and put them outside. Then when they woke up I would curse Santa for not cleaning up after his stinky reindeer. It was fun when they were still young enough to fall for it. I sure miss those days.

It's so funny that you say that! I just told my son to buy birdseed for his grandparents for Christmas and he looked at me like I was a little crazy. Great minds, huh? LOL

Mabel, that reindeer poop is brilliant! I love that you started kids feeding birds. I hope more people will feed the birds this year, the deep snow is making it so hard for the poor things.

Angie, yep. :)

You are correct about the Christmas paper for Santa. My daughter caught me on that and found out about Santa way earlier than I would have liked.

Kids are smarter than you might think some time.

i do the paper thing, but unfortunately a bratty ass neighbor kid told my youngest about Santa so now it doesn't matter. I'm pissed.I talked to her mom about asking the kid to pipe down about it but the kid wouldn't.

That's a great idea. I have 2 faithful Hummingbirds in my backyard that I keep the feeder going for. I also keep a regular bird seed feeder in the very back of the property to keep the rogue birds happy.

I'm glad you brought this subject up. We got more snow last night here in Colorado with more to come today. There were pristine cottontail prints in the snow early this morning before the dogs were let out. Steve and I were talking about what to feed the wabbits. We feed the birds but never thought about the bunnies. Corn like the squirrels?

escrow, I'm sure they'd love that. Just clear a space in the snow and sprinkle it out there. They make a nice rabbit mix feed available at pet and farm stores. I buy for BeeBee sometimes.

Valle, your kid is more likely to believe you than another kid. Just tell your little one the other kid is mistaken. Did you see that reindeer poop idea above? Brilliant. I also tied little bells to a string hooked under my daughters bed and I could hit it with my foot when I was tucking her in. What's that!? Did you hear that?! Oh, man, it was a blast.

We have stray cats outside my job. There is a guy that feeds them but this morning I saw one cat licking dirty ground water. During my lunch I'm going to bring out fresh water and when Mini-Snark and I come in tomorrow (I'm lucky to be able to bring her to work with me, sometimes) I was planning to bring a couple of cans of tuna.

Valle, Pat is right, your little one will believe you. We had a minister's kid who felt it his duty to inform everyone in the 2nd grade that there was no Santa. The teacher sent home a note letting all of us know that this had happened, but when I talked to my daughter about it, she said "Oh mommy, no one believes Elliot. He never does his worksheets and he always gets his card on red", to which I replied "Of course he does and THAT is why Santa doesn't come to him"

Problem solved. She believed well into 5th grade...LOL

Great ideas Pat. I told my kids that they could believe or not but santa doesn't bring things to those who don't. If they felt they were too old for presents from santa that was fine with me. That pretty much put an end to that debate.
In our house the presents from santa are not wrapped, just the ones from family. That gives us a chance to put things together before they go under the tree and also cuts down on wrapping time before, and cleanup time after.

Pat, It's so true about the bird seed !
My mom feeds alot of birds . She had been keeping the bird seed in a big plastic garbage can in her hall closet . Needless to say , the mice were also enjoying it . So this past week my brother and sister in law bought her a big metal garbage can with a lid and 3 big bags of bird seed for Christmas . They took it to her house and got everything cleaned up from the old seed and filled the new can . She really appreciated it . My son got her a $100 dollar gift certificate for the grocery store .
I got her a box of books because she loves to read and a big pack of toilet paper because who doesn't need TP .
She always says , " Don't buy me any junk ."
She is almost 80 and practical , useful things are not only just a good idea but so much easier to buy .
Hope you had a good Yule :)

Oh the christmas paper when I was about 5 I was like WOW mom you have the SAME paper as Santa I thought it was the coolest thing and not clueing in. Also one year our cat was trying to get into her stash because I guess she put treats for him in there and he chewed up the bag my new sleeping bag was in and she was like ahh the reindeer must have chewed it lol

Pat we do have Hummingbirds in winter. Especially since its been in the frigging 70's here for December until today. And the rogue birds are here no matter what the weather.
