Edith Abbey is 90, but, she still buys a gift every Christmas for each one of her relatives..14 children, 85 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren - plus all their partners. She believes it's the thought that counts, but, she still spends around £800.******
I thought she was sweet, until I read the whole article..HERE. Geesh, she's in a wheel chair, her daughter takes her round for months to buy all this stuff. Then her daughter has to wrap it all and even store it for her. Next year, granny, give your poor daughter a break and get yourself a case of cards and a stack of five dollar bills. I have real empathy for her daughter, as you can imagine. She gives new meaning to "old lady check day."

I agree down with the gifts and on with the $$$. She cant possible know what all her kids grandkids etc want. She probably tries to catch all the sales to get one gift on sale.
She just runs her daughters ass off buying crap, is what she does.
She should just give money as presents.
Old lady junk bought on Clearance that nobody wants or likes. That will be thrown aside or given away or donated. And how old must her daughter be? I'm just sayin', she ain't exactly a young girl anymore. I would forbid any junk being bought if I was the daughter. I would just say if she must give gifts, give the family a money gift. Not individual crappy junky gifts. You know thats what it is. Ugly sweaters, ugly skirts, junk plastic jewelry & combs. She needs to stop & just send cards out. Nobody expects anything or cares anymore, trust me. She's old. Forget it.

That's exactly what it sounded like. She had good intentions, but, really, she needs to stop. I'm sure her daughter is dog tired. A couple of bucks in a card would be fine.
