Alexa Ray Joel came out on her Facebook and thanked her family and friends after her attempted suicide on homeopathic pills and said that she's returning to music and is going back to school. Her most important goal, Alexa said, is to "help young girls with something I know a GREAT deal about: Heartbreak-Related Depression. Although it does not get much attention in our society, it is a very serious and painful condition that often gets swept under the carpet. I hope to bring this topic more to light."********
I don't mean to sound like an insensitive cow here, but, she has her health, her looks, more money than she can ever count, mansions, chauffeur driven cars and recording contracts just because she wants them, not because she struggled for them..shouldn't someone have told this young woman that, yes, you will get your heart kicked in the ass, and yes, it hurts, but, with time you will get over it and find another guy to kick your heart in the ass even worse? Because that's frickin' life. "Heartbreak Related Depression" doesn't sound like anything abnormal in a world where people are dying of hunger every day. It kind of sounds spoiled, self centered and unrealistic to me. Maybe I'm mean, but, get your shit together. Priorities! Geez.

Priorities, indeed DD. As if we only had to worry about heartbreak related issues! I'm sure we all know the pain of breaking up with a boyfriend and the pain is real while it's happening, but my heavens - this girl needs some help putting things in perspective!

I've struggled with depression for years now. I don't understand this Heartbreak-Related Depression though. Of course it's gonna hurt when you end a relationship, but you eventually move on with your life. And her overdose was such a joke too.I guess that was her way of getting help or something..but no one's gonna die taking 7 homeopathic pills. puhhlease!
How sad that she doesn't understand that this is just part of life. Everyone suffers from this, and even those of us who normally suffer from depression manage to deal. What a self-absorbed, self-pitying ass.
Great. Now another reason guys will look to girls as emotional basket cases. Has anyone checked this girl's mental state out? Maybe she's just suffering from regular depression.
Also, how messed up do you have to be to try and kill yourself after a breakup? Yes, we've all been there and cried, and torn up his pictures, but you have to have a SERIOUS self esteem issue if you invest so much of yourself in a man. It's sad.
I read about this a couple of weeks ago. She has had to live with Christie Brinkley as her mom, it gets worse. Her own mother constantly badgers her about her weight and how she "has her dads genes"...thats obvious! She's very pretty. But I really think her mother has pounded into her that she isn't quite up to snuff. She said her mom once showed her how to eat a brownie: you chew it and spit it out, she actually showed her how to do it. Don't swallow! Jeesh, this girl is indeed wealthy, her dad lost a ton of money a few years ago with bad management. So, dads bank acct aint what it used to be, but still very wealthy indeed. He was touring with Elton John last year. Anyways, her boyfriend dumped her, another guy broke her heart. They probably date her, meet her mom & then dump Alexa. She does look like dad. But I think she's fabulous, in person I bet she is even prettier. But try living with the super model of the 80's and see how your self esteem holds up.

yeah, the guy she left billy joel for....she got in that helicopter crash, divorced billy, married that guy had a son, found out he was a fake and basically paid him off for him to sign away custody of his son (and that says a lot about him right there, taking millions to sign away custody rights to his child)....then she married that peter cook creep guy....
yes, Christy was living in Aspen or someplace with the helicopter crash survivor guy and was paying to remodel his home, married him & was pregnent when she found out he was broke as a joke and dumped his ass. He did lie to her, but she jumped in when she married him. Crash survivors trying to stay alive together syndrome? She didn't need him, he needed her, he deceived her. Alexa cannot learn much from this woman aboug how to have a successful relationship. Her dad is as bad. Alexa is fucked, even with her money. She needs to stop looking to them as examples, and just live her life as best she can. Her middle name is from Ray Charles.

I hate how the media made it sound like Alexa swallowed three bottles of Tylenol or something- she took 8 homeopathic pills...it's not the same thing. She could not kill herself with what she took. But of course the press is all OMG SHE ALMOST DIED!!!! No. She did not almost die. Not even close.
Anyway-let's say, for a lark, Alexa really is depressed. I still don't pity her. Why? Because even if she does have real problems with depression, she also has access to the best counselling there is. She can afford any pysch drug she wants. Most people with depression can't afford help. I will save my sympathy for them, not Alexa Joel.

Personally, I find Alexa much more attractive than her mother. Maybe it's just me, but, I never thought Christie was all that.
During Christie Brinkley's divorce from Peter Cook it was reported that she was worth approximately $60 million. For fuck's sake. Alexa should be able to get some good therapy with that kinda cash.
I read that Billy Joel tried to kill himself when he was young (around her age) when he was trying to break out in the music business. I forgot what his method was.
But he admits he has depression. Not some watered down vogue-ish, make it look better kind of depression.
