HERE is the story and a pic of the cat. I was surprised at the look of the cat. That is not a starving animal, it's just one mean cat. And she'd been stalking the boy for days assuming he was easy prey. It just goes to show what I always say, if you live in the country, the only thing better than a gun is a good dog. A gun can't tell you when there's a threat around you, but, a dog always knows.

thank goodness for that dog. Are pets are the best protectors and best friends we have. Angel deserves a doggy vacay.
DD are you starting to think about keeping your little dog?
Oh, I think someone will give this puppy a nice home, I'm offering to pay for her spaying when she's old enough. She's going to be a real good dog, you can tell. She already barks when someone shows up.
This story brings tears to my eyes. What a beautiful, brave dog!
You know how partial I am to goldens. . . though other devoted family dogs may have done the same. What a wonderful guardian angel that dog is. Worth her weight in gold. I hope she's getting extra treats and loves.
Though I'm still wary of guns, I believe that you need them if you live in the country, though cougars have a wide range, and do come in close to populated areas. Occasionally one will be seen at the fringe of a golf course, or years ago one was seen in the backyard of a friend.
A gun and a dog sure come in handy when you're out in the sticks alone. Wooo, the stories I could tell you. A good dog lets you know where to aim. Heh.
We have Cougars here too. I've seen em, but, never one that was hunting humans! A guy here came home and found one on his porch one day. Noelle could tell you about that, he lived next to her. The cops came and said, wow, that there's a mountain lion! The cat ran away..lol. I had one in the garage once. It just walked through and left.
Wow. You have a lot of interaction with mountain lions! We don't seem to have that as much, thank God.
I worry a lot about my brother because he hikes all the time, like multiple times a week if he can, and he mountain climbs. He belongs to the local mountain-climbing club and they go through a lot of back country. I'm sure he has crossed paths with mountain lions many times and just didn't know it. Gives me goosebumps.
I'm sorry. C is me. I just had brain-fade again when I hit the button.
No, C, we don't have many, sightings are rare. They aren't indiginous to Iowa, but, we have a few now because they're habitats are being enroached upon, so they're moving here to follow the white tail deer. We have the largest deer herds in the Midwest. We have a few bears now too. So far, I have seen no threatening behavior at all. They avoid humans. I've only seen them because until recently, I always lived way out in the sticks.
Oh, and I always worked nights. Oh my, you wouldn't believe the odd wildlife you see on old country roads at 4 am.
There are a couple of million people here in Vancouver (all the lower mainland, but that area is way out in the boonies.
Cougars up here will attack if they think you'de make a good lunch...so be careful when you go camping and hiking.
A dog really is man's best friend.
Omg that is an amazing story. I'm so glad that boy was saved.
We lived in Chilliwack for many years and knew we had a cougar on the mountain behind our house (our property consisted of part that mountain). We lost one cat to it.
Here's a link to the article in the Vancouver Sun, it has some more pictures too.
