I had a quiet New Year's eve, the neighbors across the street set off a mess of fireworks at midnight and all of us who were up went out to the street and cheered. Then we went back in..it was cold! The cops didn't show up, for once. Seems to me like the cops only come to Guntown when we're having fun..lol. I managed to get some new fallen Blue Moon snow around 1 am, that'll make a good spell ingredient later. Then I played Auld Lang Syne and toasted all of you with a glass of tomato juice. But, I put it in a fancy glass, heh. I was surprised to find a few other people online at the same time. Sounds like most of you had a quiet night too. Not much going on today..even the gossip blogs are shut down. Not that I care what Paris did for the holiday anyhow. What are you gonna do today?

i heard the city's fireworks at midnight and some of my neighbors clanged on pots & pans!!!
lounging today...it is BITTER cold out---suppose to be worse tomorrow! planning on bundling up, filling bird/squirrel feeders, taking a bath and then start to study for the GRE!
and play boggle! :)
That sounds relaxing. I have to clean BeeBee's cage. I've been putting it off because it's so hard to reach the garbage cans now. I guess I'll have to try and dig them out. She's looking at me funny, like why is my cage a mess?
I still have my 2 grandchildren from last night. My kids went out and partied last night and I stayed home and watched the kiddos.
They are 6 months apart and play pretty well together. An occasional spat but all kids are that way.
I cooked a big pot of beans and ham last night and will make some cornbread and that's what we'll be eating today.
Just planning on staying home and relaxing.
Happy New Year! Goin for a long, long ride on my horse. I ride near and in the Griffith Park mountains. My husband is home with a cold and he is the biggest baby when he gets one. awwww, I'm meannnnn! thawing out a Turkey I got for 5 bucks to cook tomorrow and gearing up for monday, back to work! Hubs and I took the tree down..Yay!
Oldest is at a New Year`s Buddhist celebration.
Youngest is STILL sleeping LOL
Hubs has to work tonite.
I have been watching the Twilight Zone marathon.
It snowed here last night also. I woke up at 11:30pm when hubs came home and made sure to say Rabbit Rabbit on the stroke of midnight.
Happy New Year Pat!
Rabbit rabbit?
It was fairly quiet here; a few fireworks, honking horns. Nothing over the top.
Spending a quiet day reading a little and working on plans for my studio. Yeah!
I hope you're feeling better DD. Happy new year to you and all your dishers!
Dinner with the inlaws today. Yuk.
Happy New Year to all!
My son was up until 11:51pm last night. Couldn't quite make it until midnight. He's too little to stay up but his schedule is off. DH and I were up and drank champagne and watched the NYC ball drop like we do every year since we started dating. My mother and step father were here but asleep. They went home today so all will be quiet. We need it. We are all sick and need a break from the holiday madness.
Hope you are having a great day and that this is just the start to a great new year.

From 9pm to after Midnight people were shooting guns and lighting fireworks. Not little firecrackers but like M-80s or something big because we heard some pretty loud booms from time to time.
Quiet night other than the fireworks. Round Table Pizza, homemade chocolate chip cookies, guacamole and chips and season 3 of The Tudors on DVD.
I'm hitting the New Year's sales today with my Christmas cash. I hope 2010 is better than 2009.
Hubs and I went to a Detroit Casino
last night. Today I am making a Pork Loin, sauerkraut, onions and potatoes in the crock pot. (Why do I think we have to have pork on
NYD?) Will clean a bit to get ahead of weekend chores, then back to work on Mon.
Happy first day everyone..
Ya quite night last night in bed by 9pm. Had a ok-ay dinner. Enjoyed it till heartburn came on.
Today im enjoying my only day off till tue. Im doing laundry, shopping and making sauerkraut and hotdogs. Other than that just enjoying a day off. Hope you all are taking it easy and enjoying every min take care
Went to an established restaurant in South Philly last night. I was so disappointed! $33.00 for chicken saltibocca that was almost inedible. It came with a teeney tiny potatoe and maybe 4 matchstick carrots. This is not a 4 star rest. There was no salad included, either.
This happens so much anymore, establishments serving sub-standard food and charging way too much $$ for it. It's so disappointing and it's the reason I usually stay home and cook myself.
Heidi, I am sooo going to start saying that starting Feb 1.
The things I learn about here is amazing!!
I worked a little at the hospital then came home and hung out with my family.
Hope 2010 treats you better than 2009
Vicki,
Jim fixes Pork and sauerkraut every New Years Day. He says it is supposed to bring luck in the New Year
We stayed home and watched my 3 year old grandson. My other son dropped off his 2 dogs since they were going to be spending the night at the party the were attending. So I had 6 dogs and my grandson here. I bought my GS some noise makers which totally freaked out the dogs. He only made it to 10:30. I couldn't think of a better way to spend NYE.
I made 3 slabs of BBQ back ribs and 5 lbs of prawns. (the prices for these at Costco was amazing.)
DH loaded up on pickled herring (yuk) and fell asleep at 12:20.
Today is leftovers from all the food cooked last night. I'm taking the day off.
man! I feel asleep before 11! I woke up at 12 on the dot due to neighbors lighting fireworks behind my house BOOM! Scared the livin shit outta me. I told my lovely Desiree happy new year and went back to sleep.
oh and last night I had the best dinner. Crab stuffed chicken with a lovely brandy cream sauce . It's $23 bucks, but it's freakin huge.I order it knowing that I'll have leftovers to eat for lunch and dinner the next day as well as enough to share with my daughter who loves it. Man I love to eat. I'm so glad I live where seafood dishes are readily available and good. I've been eating alot of crab in the past few weeks.
I contemplated cleaning and quickly shot that idea down and went shopping. Got some bins to store Christmas stuff and TP. HEY!, it's better than cleaning :)
Maureen,
Do you mind mentioning the name of the restaruant in S. Philly? My daughter now lives there and goes out to eat quite a bit. Would like to steer away.
Thanks
Happy New Years everyone!
omg I came home shortly after 6am and slept most of the day, now I'm wondering how I'll fall asleep tonight.... (a shot of Nyquil will do the trick lol)
Happy New Year to you Pat and to all of your readers on DD..... may 2010 bring you all you have always wanted....
My husband spent last night here at home for the first time since his dad died on Monday. He went upstairs to take a nap, after we had dinner with MIL and know-it-all friend, and shopped to use up flex-account money.
I woke him up at 11:45p and we were up together until 12:15a when he went back to bed. We have a lot of fireworks, but neither of us felt like setting anything off, and our son wasn't home, so. . . meh.
Today my husband took care of the animals, and I went to pick Andy up, fixed breakfast, and then we all just hung out at home. I am still in my pjs and haven't done anything but cook or watch movies, play video games on the iphone, etc. I feel guilty, but good.
Happy new years, everyone!
Pretty quiet here too. I was gonna go out to a burlesque party but it got canceled at the last minute. I guess it was the Universe's way of telling me 'not a good night to drive'.
Today I woke up to help my MIL prepare stuff for lunch, she had invited her older son and his wife. Ugh. I hate those people. But today they really did it for me. My MIL can't do the things she used to before, she has trouble walking, she can't cook, now she needs help with almost everything, and today she totally went out of her way to have a nice meal with her son and his cunty wife, who now have stupid dietary requirements otherwise they won't eat (that's the wife's idea, not even doctor prescribed btw). They are a host's worst nightmare. They didn't even touch the snacks we had for them. They KNEW there was food for a late lunch, my meat eater MIL planned a completely vegetarian meal and they took off with some lame excuse when it was time to eat. I am so pissed off because my MIL is declining, which they are well aware of, and they still let her go out of her way to please their unappreciative organic-gluten free-sugarless asses and were totally incapable of staying that extra time to have a decent meal with his mom. I could tell she was sad. And that is something I totally blame on his cunty wife. My brother in law almost disowned his own daughter because of this woman, for no good reason. She's so despicable. My MIL is at that point in life where she needs indulged a little, and a lot of love and attention, and it just breaks my heart because I would NEVER do that to my mother. I'm always pushing my husband to get closer and spend a little more time with his mom because we don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow, and she needs it too, and I can't believe that this woman being a wife and a mother herself can't get out of her comfort zone for an extra hour just so that my BIL spends a little more time with his mom. When my MIL passes, if I don't see those two ever again I will be perfectly fine.
There. After they left I had a well deserved shot of tequila to calm my rage.
Unwinding from seeing JOEL MCHALE on New Years eve. So much fun to do stuff with my girlfriends.....now sleeping off the large virgin daiquiri and chocolate cake we consumed!
I had a nice New Year's for once. I was chilling at home and my friend/boyfriend called and invited me over to his friend's house. We played scrabble and cranium. Got a big kiss at midnight. He made coffee and cinnamon rolls in the am and we chilled with his daughter. It was her birthday, how cool!
Then I went out and bought new decorations for my bedroom to celebrate my independence/divorce. The painting nearly didn't fit in the car, but it is gorgeous. I am going to try to take a pic and send it. Today I'm going to try to find some paint to do an accent wall and pull one of the colors out of the painting.
Meissa, that woman sounds horrid. Next time perhaps you could make a protein shake to meet her "dietary requirements" and add a good dose of laxatives to it.
I agree Meissa, they sound like assholes. People who have real dietarty requirments take care of them and don't let them interfear with visits. That's just mean and weird.
Meissa---what horrible family members. That SIL is a piece of work. I might be with Mich on the "special protein shake". It was heartless and cruel for them to leave when your MIL had gone to such work, at great expense to her (physically). Some people don't get it, and some people don't get it until it's too late.
When MIL is gone, they will probably be running to be first in line for an inheritance, saying that they always took care of her.
It. Sucks.
Sometimes people don't spend time with declining relatives because they are just incapable of facing that harsh reality. My husband falls into that category. I had to urge him repeatedly to go see his dad, a few months ago. I told him repeatedly that he would regret it later, if he did not. He figured it out, and became a regular visitor to his dad. I think it's why he can sleep at night. I don't know if that plays into the picture with your BIL or not, but if it does, I hope he figures it out, and is able to see his mom (even if he needs to leave his wife at home) before it is too late.
yep, add me to the list for the special shake!!!
Christina, you are SO right re: inheritance. She's the type of greedy bitch who will do anything to get 20 bucks out of it. The only one who doesn't see the slimeball she is is my BIL. She can do no wrong in his eyes. Oh and she's one ugly fucking bitch too. On the inside and the outside.
