The ice is melting

We've had two days of sunshine and the result is massive icicles all over the buildings. This morning it looked crazy, the icicles on the porch roof went almost to the ground and when I opened the door it looked like we were in an ice cage. An ice jail, yeah, that sounds right. I took a shovel and broke them off so none of the smaller ones would drop on our heads and stab us. If we keep getting this warm weather, there is a Spring in sight, but, it will take a long long time for all this snow and ice to melt. There is an awful lot of it. Now there are puddles over the ice and walking and driving is treacherous. What's really freaky is the ice melting off the trees over the house and off the roof. When it melts enough to slide off, it sounds like you've taken your entire entertainment center, TV and all, up on the roof and thrown it over the side. It shakes the house as it shatters and it's been going on for two days now. It's getting on my last nerve. The dog is terrified every time it happens. I don't blame him, at least I understand it. To him, it's some kind of mysterious explosion. I wonder how long it will take to get rid of the ice? I still can not imagine anything green in this wasteland.

Oooooooo ... those long ones will put added weight on your gutters too. Watch it does not pull them down!

All the snow melted off my roof this past week then we got another 5 inches last eve/night.

I am OVER winter. How's your fur baby doing otherwise? Does he still have the little bow in his hair? We had a poodle when I was little and he always looked so cute when he came back from the groomer with his little bows.

I'm glad to hear that things are thawing out a little, and hope that trend continues for you, Pat. I love a taste of snow each winter, but then I'm done with that. Last year when we had the 18+ inches, it lasted for a week or less, and then we had a sudden melt. Seems like it took no time at all and it was gone except for little mountains left in store parking lots. I remember the creepy roof sounds from that time. Otherwise we just never accumulate enough that it's an issue. I hope the winter is over for you, and that it gets greener and greener from now on.

I HATE when the ice slides off the roof. Freaks me out every single time.
