Pet adoption IS a big deal

Adopting a dog was not a decision I made lightly. It's a huge commitment and one I avoided for years because I am basically a me person...I do what I want, when I want and I've earned that right at this stage in my life. Oh, it's not like I'm self involved or I don't care about anyone else, I do, but, really, I can be perfectly happy alone for weeks at a time..even months.
*
Now, every morning I get up and I see this little being who has needs I must meet. I can't say it thrills me. Mornings suck, and there he is, tail bob beating a mile a minute tripping me as I stagger out of bed. He's happy all the time, which is foreign to me, but, amusing. He can hold it all night, thank goodness, and he can also wait for me to go pee before him. He has to. I figure his bladder is younger than mine. He can usually hold on while I put the coffee on too and then off we go. Like I said, mornings pretty much suck anyway. Not his fault.
*
Other than expecting things of me in the morning, he's not much trouble. He's content to sit here beside me all day. He has a footstool he sleeps on, here by my chair. He likes to sleep between my back and the chair too. He gets rowdy, like any pup, but, I don't. His exersize consists of running break neck through the house while I sit here and dangle a sock. Apparently this is very entertaining. All I have to do is lean down, and in a low voice growl "Whaaaaat's goin' on?" And he's off like demented rabbit on crack. About ten minutes of this and he's ready to go back to napping.

Niki did really well at work. He was well behaved and friendly and everyone liked him. So I feel comfortable taking him with me. I guess what I'm saying is..having a dog is a good thing. You have to find the right dog though, that's for sure. And it seems I have.

DD, I know how you feel! I beg my dogs to sleep in a little more in the morning so I don't have to walk them outside in the cold, but there I am with all the other lucky fools walking the doggies! Have fun! bima

He's one lucky dog. And it seems as if Lissa has claimed ownership! So happy you found a dog that is right for you - so cool that you can take him to work with you.

DD, I am glad to know this little guy is a good fit for you. He sounds like he is not demanding of attention, and you can do minimally, and he finds it to be great entertainment. It doesn't get much better than that.
I hope you are feeling better, and are as comfortable as you can be with the cold still lingering on.
Love the picture of Lissa with Niki---he is the perfect size to carry as a baby or snuggle with.

I wish I had your luck with dog bladder. Perla and LuLu want out the moment my feet land on the livingroom floor. If I hesitate, I will be cleaning up pee.

He is a sweet baby!

You bring up a very good point Pat. It is always better to get to know the dog before you adopt so that you know if you will be a good fit for each other. If more people did this then there would be less dogs in the pound. He and Lissa are so cute together!

yep! doggie walks and doggie poo, the only downside i can see to owning a dog. you are reminding me of my little prince and how it was when we first got him. he used to be able to throw and catch stuff with his mouth. and you have no idea how fast he could fly round the park. he's just living on borrowed time now..... but we LOVE him!!

Hey, I've been waiting for just this picture & post, so thanks!

I agree about not making decision lightly about getting a dog.

This addition to your family seems meant to be. How old is Niki, I forget. What does the rat (sorry can't remember his name) think of fur ball and visa vera?

That is so cool!! And I agree...it's a huge deal adopting a pet. They are totally dependent on you for everything!!

I'm so glad you guys found each other.

And Lissa looks so big in that picture!!

Im so happy to hear the good news DD. I agree with you 100% foster the pet first and try things out. Before you get into something you can handle and want to give up.

Nice to see little lissa with nicki to.
How is bebe taking it?

Bee is a little put off by his exuberance for life. But, that's okay, they get along alright.

I love pictures of Lissa. All kids are cute and I usually smile at them and move on cuz I'm not the biggest 'kid person' in the world. But I like Lissa b/c you can see her attitude through the lens. She's got a spine..... I wonder what she's going to be like when she's older?

Awww! I'm glad to see everything is going ok. Sorry it's been awhile since I posted or talked to you, but Dan's aunt past away and the visitation was sun and the funeral was on monday. So our minds have been elsewhere. It's good to see lissa and Niki are doing well together. Talk to you later.
