once i get dressed (slow going day!!) and shovel (only got about 4"s but it's still coming down!) i am gonna wash up a casserole dish and put my roast in the oven with garlic and rosemary....shall keep it covered with foil the first hour and a half so it'll make juice and then uncover it for the last hour and i'll have a nice gravy....also going to have a baked sweet potato and a salad with raspberry vingarette dressing....
hmmm....maybe i'll put the roast in the oven BEFORE i go shovel....i'll probably be out there over an hour...i'll go my elderly neighbor's too if she hasn't already shoveled.....
for dessert is stoneyfield farms chocolate underground yogurt (my FAVORITE!!!!!)
I have a pot roast (will serve with carrots, peas, mashed taters & rolls) in the slow cooker; egg bread in the bread machine; and cookies in the oven for us to decorate when Sammy gets up!
For us...HUGE POTS O'CHILI! Cornbread, and cheesecake for dessert. So far we have 18 inches of new snow and its still coming down. We tried shoveling earlier, but you almost cant tell where. :(
PA interstates are closed per the Governor, all the malls are closed, I'm just waiting for the call that says no school tomorrow either. Haven't seen a snow plow since before it started snowing. I do have a 4x4 Surburban, so if I absolutely have to go out, I can plow thru, if there is no ice, but still. I need to ready my oldest to consider walking to work tomorrow morning if all else fails. LOL
So yea, I'm hating the snow, and I'm ready for spring.
I'm not sure yet but I won't have to cook as I will be dinning in the hotel rest this evening overlooking the pacific. Fresh fish would be nice.
Meissa & Jarhead the rumors are that Rush will be opening the ceremonies this Friday at 6pm but it's not confirmed as of yet ?! Idk why ?! I hope they do YYZ too it's the call letters for Pearson international airport in Toronto where we all hail from. Yeah I grew up with these guys and they are amazing!!!! Killer voice on Geddy & Alex a master on the guitar but Neil rocks those drums and writes the best lyrics. LIMELIGHT is a masterpiece all all three points. Jarhead I did the same & blew out one of my stereo speakers too LOL ! - Kiki :)
Mom of 4 in Pa. This is Kiki and I wish I could come over to your house for supper I love cornbread chilli and absolutely love snow but what most people don't know is that I flipping luv luv luv to shovel snow !!! Your place sounds like heaven to me would you take payment for the meal in the form of shovelling your snow ? :) Kiki
escrow you grab hold of that remote on Friday and don't look back girl. 50 inch plasma heaven ! Kiki ;)
With upwards of 40 plus inches of snow during the blizzard we are currently getting :D YAY - we are having Senate bean soup with yeast roll sammiches. It smells so good.
I found a spiral sliced ham on sale for 99 cents a lb and so we have had a lot of different ham meals this week. So cheap and good. If you like ham.
The snow is really coming down now. I roasted two small whole chickens earlier. Hubs is making chicken noodle soup. Tossed salad and Italian bread will go with it.
I made an apple streusel earlier so that will be dessert.
I'm thinking Scalloped potatoes with ham and some kind of veggie . And I need to make some banana bread with those brown banana's on the kitchen table .
Homemade wedding soup that my sil made. I am bummed because I am so sick and probably won't be able to taste it. She makes the best wedding soup. Hope all my snow bound buddies are staying warm.
So jealous of the wedding soup! I haven't had it since I was in Pittsburg years ago...:(
Sounds like the snow and cold is bringing out everyone's need for beef. Chili at my house tonight or maybe meatloaf. Whatever I can throw together with a pound of burger. Meatloaf: the meal that is never, ever the same. Anyone have any interesting versions?
Come on over! I have 2 5 qt dutch ovens and the 4 qt filled with simmering chili as we speak. 3 hours til the cornbread gets baked. Chili comes with fresh chopped onions, cheddar cheese, sour cream on the side. I forgot to get Oyster crackers the other day, but with more than 2 feet on top of the 20 inches from the weekend, and its still snowing hard, Im not going to the grocery store! LOL
Now to convince my kids that shoveling is a fun thing to do, than maybe we will only have to shovel another 8 inches or so tomorrow. Unless of course the weather guessers are wrong, and the 8-12, that changed to 12-18, that changed to 18-22, that is obviously wrong by the measurement of what is on my deck railing, gets changed again. I think the news ppl in Lehigh Valley have given up on trying to figure out this storm. We are in "hunker down" mode. I do feel sorry for the ppl in Reading who wont get plowed anytime soon thanks to their plow catching on fire. And on top of everything else, they are calling for more snow on Monday.
I think I need to go put out a "hit" on a certain stupid groundhog. *sigh*
Kiki, they haven't confirmed or denied RUSH playing tomorrow. The Olympics people's lips are tight-sealed. I read it on the blog Rush is a Band a week ago, usually they are spot on with the next Rush move. I wouldn't put it past me since RUSH is Canada's Greatest Export! I love Alex Lifeson, that man makes me wish I was that guitar of his. He truly makes love to his instrument (his guitar, of course!) makes me want to reach out in my screen or on the stage and screw him left and right lol....I love jamming my dance to their music and I did a piece to 2112 intro/temples of syrinx for a show a couple of times...oh I love RUSH!!
Oh yeah din din! I need to get some chicken out of the freezer. Still don't know how I'm gonna cook it!
lasagna, mixed green salad & warm buttery rolls. Pie for desert, hubs is a fool for pie. But now that I've seen ham, scalloped potatoes & cornbread I'm drooling even more.
Kiki definitely agree with you on Rush, love their music & what Canadian doesn't own that Take Off Album, still got mine. Love Getty's voice & could listen to him for hours. :) Have a great time Kiki!
Omg meissa !!!! Behave yourself !!! I'm blushing just reading your post ! LoL thanks for the laff :-)) It's kinda funny we both love Rush & dig jarhead too - ;) Kiki
I can pretty much recite 2112, I listened to it sooo many times. I have loved Rush for over 30 years!!! But, I love hard rock, but they are the KINGS!!
Well...payday is Friday, and since we live paycheck-to-paycheck and have run out of money, we won't be having anything until Friday. But reading all you guys' meals sounds so GOOD!!! Glad you all have plenty! Take care, bundle up, and have a great weekend.
We had 14 inches of snow so after my husband get through snow blowing we will be having left over oxtail soup that I made and froze last week, and some hot french bread. Homemade soup always tastes better left over than it does the first day. Rice pudding for dessert.
Colorado had snow Monday and we are clear and sunny today with a temp of 39. Dinner is Sticky Chicken with rice and fresh snow peas. Finger lickin good!
Pat, can you get to your mail box? I mailed you something.
Ceasar salad with made from scratch dressing, don't like store bought and my husband is making "vegetable medley", he takes about 12 different veggies including whole garlic and steams with season salt and some butter. fills you up and it's healthy, oh and steamed artichoke with aioli!! love food!!! bima
Jen, Jessi, Kim---I hope you have something stashed in the cupboards! Friday is to far away, and I don't like to think of anyone here going hungry. Hope you find something good.
Tonight we are having chicken noodle soup and french bread. The soup is on the stove now. My husband was diagnosed with diverticulitis yesterday morning, and he is just venturing off his clear liquid diet, so I thought soup and plain white bread. We have all sorts of little goodies around the house, but for him, dessert will be rice pudding.
Going out to eat with my mom and her boyfriend tonight. (She has a boyfriend but I don't.) I do all the cooking at my house so it's nice to get a break.
My brother is on a gluten-free diet due to celiac disease so tomorrow I will be cooking again when he comes over. I making him fried chicken without flour. It's his favorite.
Pizza casserole? That sounds sooo good. Thank goodness I already ate!
We've been on South Beach diet for about a month now so we had a super healthy dinner. I made blackened tuna steaks with fake mashed potatoes (uses cauliflower) and green beans.
It's really not as bad as it sounds. I cooked the fresh beans in a wok than tossed in some breadcrumbs and saute'd portabellos. It was yummy!
I made falafal and fresh dill yogurt sauce but my falafal fell apart in the oil... Sometimes things just don't work out. My husband is away and my little one requested a peanut butter sandwich so I just scrapped the whole mess and poured a glass of wine!
Hey, Bayou Jane! I started celebrating Mardi Gras just within our family a few years ago and have ordered my king cakes through Randazzo's in Camelia City. They're yummy, but are they really the best example of a king cake? I'm not finding fault, I just want to know from your Louisiana eyes where the best are. They sent the cakes very quickly in beautiful boxes, with ?langnappe? I'm pretty sure I got that all wrong, but it's the beads, dubloons, masks, etc. It was a lot of fun.
Everyone's food sounds great! What are you fixing, Pat?
My son just started an 'elimination diet', so here's what is NOT for dinner: beef, milk, wheat, eggs, soy, fish, shell fish, peanuts or tree nuts. My meal prep world has been turned upside down!
Oh Bernadette...that just sucks! When I first read your list my first reaction was .... he could eat my dinner. But, nope. The soy killed it.Is this "elimination" due to allergies?
He was just diagnosed with something called Eosinophilic Esophagitis (I'd never heard of it either...). Basically it's an allergic rxn in the esophagus, so now we have to figure out what's causing it. We do this for 2 months, the go back and get rescoped. If he's clear, we get to put one of the categories back in for 2 months, rescope, etc. If he's not clear he loses another category - I don't even want to think about that. Poor guy - he's only six, so it's a lot to ask of him, but if we don't fix this he could have permanent damage to his esophagus. Basically it's a no-win situation at the moment!
Bayou Jane, I didn't feel the quake. I'm in Chicago. My son and a friend who lives a few blocks away from him felt it quite strong. They both live in a suburb west of me called Aurora. My friend said it scared her dogs so much they pooped in the house. (which they NEVER do) I've heard animals can sense a quake before it even happens.
Thanks escrow! He has two sibs - one is older and is being very good about all of the changes. The other is younger and doesn't really get it - she just wants her crackers, damnit! :)
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar 1/2 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 2 Tbl honey 3 cloves garlic 1 Tbl fresh ginger(I use my microplane to grate the garlic and ginger) 1/8 tsp pepper
Combine all ingredients in a non-stick pan and reduce to around half. The longer you reduce the thicker and stickier it gets. Grill or roast your chicken then coat in the sauce and pour over your hot rice. I used 2lbs of wings tonight and that amount of sauce was just right for 2. This sauce is also excellent with pork!
Saw a bunch of comments on this thread and thought...oh crap the trolls are back. Cracking up that it turned out to be a bunch of hungry chicks talking bout food instead. Glad to see things are back to normal.
Escrow...TOTALLY making your Sticky Chicken as soon as I can get the supplies. Sounds YUM.
This is going to be another no sleep night so you all get to put up with me. lol It's time to mess with the Sticky Chicken recipe cause we all know a recipe is only a suggestion. I think next time I'm going to add some OJ frozen concentrate and orange zest Half a can sounds about right. Huuum...now that we've added a healthy dose of citrus this could work with shrimp :) Just thinking out loud.
Oh Bernadette..How awful! I was about to say..oh he can eat Vegan but then there is no soy and no nuts for protein. I guess there can be legumes and different grains..wait..let me look at your list again... Yeah, you can try things like quinoa, beans, veggies, TVP, barley.. It does make your world go upside down. I'm thinking pork chops cooked in golden mushroom soup, rice and some kind of vegetable medley with a nice cheesy sauce....maybe some buscuits...lordy I'm hungry.....

I loved Bob and Doug's "Take Off (to the great white north)" with Geddy Lee! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot70G4wSQi0&feature=related
Rush's 2112 was killer
At least 5 pounds of pizza casserole with some cheesy garlic bread on the side.

Mmmm! Grits!
I have been happy with just a small bowl of grits with butter and pepper.
I think I know what I am making for breakie tomorrow!
Homemade split pea soup and a bagel.

Key lime cheesecake.
Yes. Really.
ended up making grilled chicken sandwiches and mac-n-cheese. yum.
Cheese puffs and dark chocolate ensure. Why yes, I have gone over the edge. LOL. Escrow's chicken and rice sounds great to me!
Fairy,
The Sticky Chicken is all about the sauce.
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 Tbl honey
3 cloves garlic
1 Tbl fresh ginger(I use my microplane to grate the garlic and ginger)
1/8 tsp pepper
Combine all ingredients in a non-stick pan and reduce to around half. The longer you reduce the thicker and stickier it gets. Grill or roast your chicken then coat in the sauce and pour over your hot rice. I used 2lbs of wings tonight and that amount of sauce was just right for 2. This sauce is also excellent with pork!

We had cheese garlic biscuits with chicken lime rice casserole and chocolate moose cake.
Tonight I was thinking chicken alfredo with fresh vegetables. Plus the rest of that cake.
My daughter chose her diet so I was never having the problems you are having. Ask Dr about different forms of protein you can give him or supplements.
I will be thinking about you!
Hubs soup was really good. It was his first batch EVER!
He even put russet potatoes in it for me. That is what my Mom used to put in her chicken soup.
I told him next time we will be adventurous..He will make his soup and I will figure out how to make Matzo balls for it.
I'm thinking pork chops cooked in golden mushroom soup, rice and some kind of vegetable medley with a nice cheesy sauce....maybe some buscuits...lordy I'm hungry.....

Thanks Heidi! They have him on a special powder supplement. This morning was our first attempt at getting it into him (you mix it with applesauce) - he was less than pleased with the taste, to put it mildly. He's a trooper though - we've gone through this with other meds in the past, and after a couple of days he's taking them no problem. Thanks for the good thoughts!
Chicken Spaghetti. Spaghetti, Mexican Velvetta, onions, cream of chicken soup and garlic powder. Yummy.
That sticky chicken sounds goooooood. We're having brunch here now. Husband is making biscuits and gravy today. It's nice being married to a chef. Well, as long as you stay away from the scales.
Nickname unavailable, that sounds really interesting. Would you consider writing up the recipe?
Yes!
I want the recipe for the spaghetti and I just copied and saved the recipe for the sticky chicken..Thank You!
Anyone have any different recipes for hamburger?
Same old hamburger recipes start to get really boring.
I'll make a post for recipes. I want the Paki rice one.
It's practically summer weather here in Vancouver, BC, so we had a huge salad with feta and nuts, with papaya for dessert.
Oh Escrow. I totally adore you. Thak you for sharnig the reciepe. I'm glad I checked back on this thread. The grocery is the next step after the tax man in the A.M.
Oh really dumb questions...Can I use breasts and at what temp for how long?
