Some children have eating disorders...others just have insane mothers.

I call bullcorn on that! I'd bet these moms freaked out when their kid wouldn't eat for a few days and 'created' their kids' eating problem, seriously, chocolate EVERY meal?? Kids flip flop between eating and not eating stages...put a good meal on the table, give them enough time to eat, and after that time, they're done, and they get to wait for the next meal. Moms should not have to be a short order cook.
Escrow, guess what?!!! I finally got the Making home affordable program....it reduced my mortgage pmts. by 58%, I'm so happy, I went and got me a dog!!! I'd had my eye on him for awhile at the Rescue org. and was afraid I couldn't afford a dog, but now, I hope it's going to work out. Finally! his name is Solomon and he's 1.5 y/o and sweet as can be. If not, me Solomon and Mr. Tibbs (cat) will live in the car!
Jane, NO! You're not a bad mom, most kids do go through stages. I have a child that lived off of baked chicken nuggets for a year. I felt like a loser too, but at least it had protein lol
Kids will eat when they are hungry. If my boys wanted a peanut butter sandwich for breakfast, that's what they got. At dinner if they didn't like what was put on the table, tough. I wasn't running a restaurant.
The one girl who only ate chocolate, she stared this stuff when she was 2. Who gives in to a 2 year old?
The mother of the kid with the bottle was the problem in that situation.
I would have cut the nipples off the bottles, extended bottle feeding is so gross to me. Luckily we never had to use bottles, and mommy got to close the milk shop.
I wonder where breast-feeding is in all this? I just makes me wonder if somehow these childrens' reactions stem from some response to formula components. I would bet they were probably not breastfed, or not for long. It seems to me the parents are definitely the problem, and I don't see how it is going to get better for that girl who eats only chocolate. She must be so deficient in vitamins and minerals. I wonder what it has done to her brain development? The boy who drinks only formula from bottles needs to learn to drink whatever he has from a cup, and his parents need to switch to cloth diapers. It will not be near as comfy and he will learn and move on. I know the mom will not do that though, as it is apparent from the video that she is intent on keeping him a baby. That's what this is about. My son was so allergic to milk that I could not eat cheese, etc. and breastfeed---horrible belly-aches, gas, I won't describe the poo because it was horrendous, and being a nurse, I can be quite graphic. We were successful at eliminating dairy from my diet for awhile, and then switching to soy for awhile as we transitioned to solids, but I can see where that could become an area of trauma to a child. If the adults don't deal with it well, or the child is too painful, it could become an area of fear and control. This is crazy, though. I am not terribly impressed with that therapist who is carefully carving out a specialty niche for herself, either. I don't believe that if a child wants only chocolate, etc. for a meal, that you should indulge that, because that's exactly what it is---indulgence.
I think this is a problem you probably have to experience to understand. Like anorexia---that's something I can't understand, but it is real for many people. Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, I don't have that problem.
Pat ~ totally OT. Did you save the Hummingbird addy I sent you? One of the chicks is trying to break out of it's shell! Two holes in the shell & it's very transparent. You can see movement inside. Not sure if it'll get out before it's dark in CA.
Christina, my middle child (the one that ate chicken for a year) had severe allergies to my dairy consumption as well. His diaphragm was pushed high into his lung cavity because of gas, which was revealed by xray. Dr said he had never seen that before. So I spoke with a IBLCE, who educated me on dairy. He was cured of the severe colic within 2 weeks.
Christina. My son was formula fed & also had a dairy allergy so from 3 months was on a prescription non dairy, non soy based formula & eats the same food as us. Some days he isn't hungry & other days will demolish everything. He'll eat most european food, the more garlic & herb laced the better & if given a choice between euro & Thai will chose thai every time. The more "native the better it seems too. The only thing he refuses to eat is hamburgers & processed meats so I'm not complaining there. I personally can't see a correlation between breastfeeding & kids who wont eat, only parents who too easily give in to their kids whims.
One friend did the whole breastfeeding, cloth nappies, organic everything & her kid wont eat anything now except potato chips, french fries & ham, she gave in at the first sign of fussiness & now the rod has been made.
At home we have one choice for dinner, he either eats it or not, if he doesn't want it then it is covered & left for a while, once he is hungry enough he eats it. If he doesn't then I know he is having a "not hungry" day & will maybe offer him some crackers or porridge before bed. Often than not that is refused too & he wakes up & has a decent breakfast.
Some kids DO have genuine issues with food but this show is more about bad parents than bad kids imo.
I have found that children who get a lot of junk food when they are young get almost addicted to it and won't eat much else.
They might seem "healthy" but they are laying the foundation of bad health problems later. And they shouldn't be surprised when their child catches every virus that's going around.
Parents need to just give kids a balanced diet, some treats too for sure, and not be obsessive and make every meal a battle.
Christina, many women can't breastfeed and their kids are normal eaters - which does mean being picky sometimes but, those stages come and go.
Don't be a judgmental breastfeeding Nazi, okay? This video shows poor parenting but choosing not to breastfeeding or nto being able to breastfeed doesn't make a woman a bad mom.
Linda or escrow... could you send me the addy for the Making Homes Affordable Program!!! I had it and now I just can't find it. Since my husband died, I'm stuck with a huge housenote. Someone told me about this, but like I said, I lost the addy. jsroby@charter.net
I don't think Christina was putting down women who did not breastfeed. It sounded to me more like she was wondering if there would have been a differance.
And if they won't eat "food", will they take vitamins? Do they look at them as something that shouldn't be swallowed?
I don't think Christina was being a breastfeeding nazi in the slightest. There are 10 ideas off the top of my head. For one, breastmilk tastes similar to the food the mother eats.
Hence, child gets to taste different tasting milk every time mom eats something new. With formula, the milk tastes the same constantly. Breastmilk has as many flavors as there are foods.
BAYOU JANE - Here's the MHA website. http://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov/
However, you need to call your mortgage co. to start the process. I had 3, count 'em, 3 mortgage cos. in 5 mos time this past yr. I had to fill out the packet of paperwork w/EACH one, though one was only for about 6 wks. time. First one went belly up, they were doing some illegal activity from what I understand. I did add your email addy to my address book, I'll send you my email in case you have any particular questions. You have to be persisitent. I think they got sick of me calling, it's a case of the squeaky wheel gets oiled. I seriously started the process last April. If you qualify, get your packet in soon, give them a mos. then start calling every 2 wks. or so. I believe the pmt. to income ratio is, your mortgage should not be more than 31% of your (and I don't recall if it was net or gross) income. Good luck, let me know if you need help.
Vicki, thanks for asking. Since all 3 dtrs. have grown and gone, and my sweeeeet dog Bo died several yrs. ago, I've really wanted another one. This guy is the spitting image of my last dog and he's so 'snuggly' just what I'm looking for! He's a mix of a shepherd and a beagle...
Both my girls were lactose intolerant as babies and drank soy formula. (i was unable to breast feed due to mechanics)
One was a picky eater, the other was not. One is a vegan now and the other loves beef.
I would not force them to eat what was on their plate cause that is what happened to me as a kid. But I was not a short order cook. You did not eat what was on the table, you waited for the next meal.

Put all three of those brats on a week long fast. They'll be happy to eat. Now that I think about it, put those fat assed parents on one too!

Linda, What breed of dog did you
adopt? I am happy for your new addition to your family.
Kudos for the dog!
When my daughter was a toddler she went thru a phase of only oatmeal and pop tarts. So that is what she ate. Am I a bad mom?
I have a couple of picky eaters, but nothing so extreme. I would beat my child before allowing them to exclusively dine on chocolate 7 days a week.
I know I'm being judgmental, but that's horrid. HORRID!
I don't think I'll be eating chocolate anytime soon YUCK!
