AMESBURY, Mass. --Fluoride is added to the water most of us drink because the government believes it's a safe and inexpensive way to prevent tooth decay.
However, Team 5 Investigates found the Amesbury Water Department pulled fluoride from its system amid concerns about its supply from China.
Department of Public Works Director Rob Desmarais said after he mixes the white powder with water, 40 percent of it will not dissolve.
"I don't know what it is," Desmarais said. "It's not soluble, and it doesn't appear to be sodium fluoride. So we are not quite sure what it is."

People should ask why the government is allowed to put ANYTHING in our water.
i don't think fluoride should be added to the water...i don't even use fluoride toothpaste....

Fuck China, indeed. Fuck our government for thinking they know better than we do. I grew up in a very anti-fluoridated water area. I also grew up with a lot of cavities, but according to our dentist, it was the curviness, and tightness of my teeth that caused them. He was a nice guy, but I'm sure I was a treasured patient of his as I was quiet (silent scream) and he made a mint treating me. My sister, on the other hand, bit him and yelled and screamed. Whenever I buy toothpaste, it has fluoride in it, and I assume it is made in the US as the tube says made in USA, but I guess that doesn't mean the components are made here. That's a scary thought for me.
I wonder if all fluoride components are made in China, or if we do manufacture what goes into products made here?
I would be scared if I knew Chinese powder that will not dissolve completely is added to our water supply. Who knows what is in that fluoride, and who knows what health effects that might have in the future, and exactly who made this deal? Someone is lining their pockets with the proceeds from just such a transaction.
i never had a cavity, so i dispute any findings that says you have to have fluoride to avoid cavities....
I had loads of them without fluoride. I drank lots of milk because they told us in school that it was really good for teeth and bones. It made me fat but I still had lots of cavities.
My sister had some, but not as many cavities as me, and my brother never had any. I think it's individual DNA---how your chromosomes line up that determines what your teeth will be like.
We were poor, but ate a pretty healthy diet and I did brush my teeth, at least as much as, if not more than my siblings. Go figure.
WHY ARE WE STILL IMPORTING CRAP FROM CHINA? After all the poisonous products that have come from there lately! Where were we getting fluoride before ... Hmmmm .... go back to that!
Fluoride does help though. There is a township east of me that does not add fluoride to the water. An ex-coworker once told me his dentist friend has an office in that same township and hired him to consulant on some building projects. It seems the dentist's business is booming big time with cavities so, much so, the dentist was building himself a new larger office building and a million $ + house.

I miss my old dentist. He was such a sweetheart. Some young guy took over his practice when he retired and in 2 months built a huge building with a big 9 ft. fountain in the middle under a skylight. It's suppose to calm the patients. Of course, he had to raise his prices to pay for everything! And the last time he made an impression for a splint, he left the thing in there too long and had to knock it loose with a chisel and small hammer. The idiot scarred one of my caps and didn't even polish it out! And that truly was the last time I went to him! I miss my old dentist!
The National Academy of Sciences did a thorough review on fluoride in 2006. They documented numerous deleterious effects of fluoride on many organ systems including increased potential risk for bone fractures (the well characterized disease of skeletal fluorosis) possibly increased risk of osteosarcoma, reduced IQ, thyroid dysfunction, endocrine dysfunction and others all 300 pages is online if anyone cares to confirm it. Of course don’t forget fluoride induced dental fluorsosis (i.e. teeth mottling and a sign of toxic exposure to fluoride) They ended with recommending that the EPA should more strictly regulate fluoride. Their findings mirror those in the peer-reviewed medical literature, while Harvard trained toxicologist Phyllis Mullenix also extensively documented behavioral changes in mice upon exposure to blood levels of fluoride not far greater than those experienced through water fluoridation and other sources of exposure. Former, well credentialed EPA scientists have been fired for bucking the political line on this issue. Meanwhile 90% of the fluoride placed into our water supply is not industrial grade sodium fluoride, it is silicofluorides, quite simply, scraped from the sides of Florida phosphate plant smokestacks. If it weren’t thrown into the water supply it would have to be disposed of as hazardous waste. That's what we get when we allow a foreign country to control the quality of most of the goods we consume.
China supplies nearly everything to the West because all they care about is making money. When you've lived amongst them long enough, you learn that.
