This is news? As an informed American I thought all Aussies did this. I figured it was some national law that you have to have tons of booze and Kangaroo's at an Australian wedding. Hmm. Is that what Aussie farmers look like? Because if it is, I'm leaving this hell hole and moving to a down under hell hole and getting me some friggin' Kangroos.

Dayum! I want one!!! hehe
On a wedding side note: My daughter got engaged last Thursday! Wedding in October she thinks. Thats not much time!! Yikes!! Stresses me out already!!!
Any ideas from anyone on doing things on a budget? HELP!!! I will send a pic when she posts one! She loves that you have posted her pups pics! Thank you.
Big huge congrats!!!!!! Actually, I was thinking about doing a post about weddings and saving money. Cool weddings where people have fun and don't break the bank. So everyone start thinking about it and we'll do it!
Congratulations to your daughter and you
and your family Rox :) that's great news! Kiki :)
don't forget shrimp on the barbie!! :)
Rox, man, October colors would be awesome. I can see little pumpkins with votive candles inside and tons of fairy lights, fall leaves. Possible to do the reception in your yard?
We are trying to do an outside wedding in southern Indiana.(Just an idea) In a town called Nashville. They have wedding packages. Gazebos by the lake. Yes fall mums and pumkins would be so cool. She alreeady said she wants pumkins. I couldnt believe that! But it will probably be a brunch-time wedding, but lit pumpkins would look amazing. Maybe we could do that at the rehearsal dinner the night before? We will all be going & staying the night and have the small wedding next day. Its about 3 1/2 hrs south of us. It's a famous fall destination. I am afraid it may be too late to scdl now even!! Just the wedding party, very few close friends and immediate family. They are having a big party to celebrate sometime later once they get settled at home. We will just have a small reception. Its pretty budget friendly. Mums are not expensive. Pumpkins are cheap. LOL!!! This could be amazing if the weather is nice, the fall colors will be breathtaking. I really need lots of ideas. We gotta get this thing rolling!! Thanks to everyone! xoxo
Fairy lights!!!! YESSS!!!!!!!! OMG!
I helped build a faux gazebo for a friends wedding once. We used PVC pipes, glue and cheap tulle. It was gorgous and cost about $25 bucks.
what??? Thats crazy!! If I did that it would crash in and just look like a bad tinker-toy experiment! Thats so cool. Nothing like the wedding gazebo that burns down in Meet The Parents, but would probably be as bad!!!
No, it was simple. We put the poles in holes we dug. Real sturdy..then we attached the rest using a 2 dollar pipe cutter and glue and attached the material. We gussied it up with flowers and ribbons. It was hot.
AND I work at a plumbing company!!! LOL!!! Thats so funny!! All the PVC I want, right here! No, it would be a bad idea. Be proud that you were able to do that for a friend. I bet the pictures were amazing. They will never forget that ya' know?
Should we carve scary faces in the pumpkins and freak everybody out? LOL!!! Yes!! hahaha
Which one's the kangaroo?
You could use larger pumpkins as flower vases for bouquets of leaves. Real or silk. That'd look good.
Rox, you work at a plumbing company??? Holy crap. I've built all kinds of stuff out of PVC. I once built Frankenstein out of PVC.
yea, I'm a friggin' plumber! The pumpkin vase is a wonderful idea! Great idea for centerpieces. Use the small pie pumpkins for them!!! Larger ones around the gazebo. It wouldnt cost hardly anything. Stick some purple & yellow mums in them and it would be amazing looking. Yea, fall leaves too. Of course nature will do that for free. I can believe you built frankenstein. I think you would do that! I wish you still had him. He'd be great in your garden! Keep the ideas coming. I am loving this. It's great. Thank you. xoxo

the kangaroo is cuter than the bride! She shouldnt stand next to her, its embarrassing to be upstaged by a pet kangaroo! And the farmer is gorgeous. She got lucky!
My parents have a 30 foot trailer out by the lake and are putting more outlets in the bedroom (it was built with only one) My husband is an electrician so free labour, but dad went to buy the PVC pipes and connectors and such at Canadian Tire. Here in Canada a 10 foot of pipe is about $3. Dad drove 20 minutes to the boarder and bought it at Home Deopt and bought the exact same pipe for .89 cents. All the supplies would have cost around $100 here, it cost $25 for the supplies in the states. (plus a couple of dollars for gas.)
p.s. Congrats on the engagement. I got married 2 years ago this month (24th) and had a very lovely in-expensive wedding that was just as nice as my friend who spent triple what we spent. We had a 10 month engagement.
Who's going to scoop out all those pumkins at the last minute? Carved pumpkins start stinking real fast. Just sayin.....:)
I've been to enough weddings with dogs serving as 'Best Man' to not be surprised at all by this. They do a great job and they don't get loaded and sleep with the Bride's Mother the night before the wedding. Good dog!

Well since i am an Aussie...my husband (who is American) and I got married in Australia... Melbourne actually. We got married in the Dandenongs...very pretty there(kinda country area) We picked there cos my husband is a country boy!!!. No Kangaroos around tho.

If you want me to send pics...i can!

I forgot to add that my Mum made the wedding cake, my dress(with help of neighbour) which probably cost me $400, my bridesmaid dress, Mum's friend was a florist so she did the flowers for free, my brothers best friend was the driver for the day. My sister in law's friend is an Accountant at the Tuxedo place....so that was free. And i did the wedding invitations myself.
We got engaged 31 Dec...by the time i got back to Australia it was middle of Jan. We decided we would get married in September. By middle of February.. we had the church, reception all booked, my wedding dress material and bridesmaid dress material.
It was a very nice wedding and not expensive!

You want to hear quick weddiungs. Michael was working of shore, came in and said, "Do you want to get married now?" (He had asked before.) I said O.K. When? Two weeks later we were married. My sister, who can work miracles, gave me a beautiful wedding of family and very few friends. I had to leave some people out, but thankfully they were good enough friends to understand and we remained great friends. Of course, the small town that I grew up in were used to large weddings so everyone figured we had to get married and waited for the baby to be born. Seven years later, there he was!
Instead of a bride and groom on the top layer of my cake, a hole was cut to put in a jar and we had
fresh flowers on top. They were different types of autumn mums! (We were married in Nov.)
The morning after, my husband's on the phone with my mom. I can't get my head off the pillow. (Get your minds out of the gutter!!!) I had a something wrong with the muscles in my neck and had to get a cortisone shot in it!)
The point is, you can make beautiful memories without having to take out a loan!
Congratulations on the engagement!
Rox, congrats to your daughter!!! But please.....DON't do a brunch wedding. I got married at 2pm, and even though it was a simple reception, it still seemed like I didn't have enough time to get ready. Went to bed at midnight the night before and I got up at 5 am to get ready! A bride needs her beauty sleep even if it is the simplest of weddings.
I got married on labor day weekend, we had fall color theme outdoor wedding on a friend's front yard. If you dig in my FB, the first album has some of my wedding pics. My MIL made our cake, she also paid for the keg of Fat Tire beer, my FIL bought the champagne... my mom made my dress and his shirt, which arrived the day before from Ecuador! We had many borrowed items: the canopies over the "buffet" tables, the wood boards that served as tables, the work stands to put the boards on, the grill...went to walmart and bought a bolt of light green linen that was $1 a yard, for table cloth and aisle run, and some pretty fall themed quilting cotton at joann for a table runner....we rented the chairs and arch, got the faux flowers at michaels with coupons, and got the food at freddie's. For greenery we used real cedar boughs, and I think some grapevines for the table from my in laws vineyard which still thrives somewhere in our meadow...look at my photos by the arch and you'll see how the faux flowers look so pretty on the cedar...lots of that where I live! I think the biggest expense was the food, we had t-bone steaks for the grill.. And the boots I wore, those were over $200 at Aldo's.
Meissa, I loved those ideas. My fav was plucking grape vines to use in decorating. Man, I'll bet that was gorgeous!
