Enchanting Wisteria

Pictures from Corina's yard of her Wisteria. She didn't even know she had it, because a shed was in front of it..them BOOM, it bloomed and is 100 feet up in a tree. Wisteria isn't widely grown around here, people are afraid of it. I've grown it and I have a friend who planted it, but, it's mostly known for taking over strong castle walls. I don't think many mystery or romance novels could have been written if not for it's existence. Wisteria can pull a porch right off a house, while the owner smiles indulgently at it's enchanting beauty. I am so frickin' jealous, Corina. I want that!! It's very magical.

i rescued a wisteria from a house that was going to be demolished like 3 years ago....i barely got any of the roots (went under the porch of the house) but spent like 3 hours on a below freezing january day digging up/sawing off what i could....planted it next to my porch, wished it well and was pleased when it got leaves that spring!

after 3 years it has BUDS ON IT!!! so excited for it to flower this year!!!! :)

My mom has a wisteria growing on her fence. It just kind of showed up about 10 years ago, she didn't plant it but she is the type of gardener that takes the wait and see what it is before taking it out. She didn't really think much of it until it started having flowers on it. Now it is beautiful.

About a month ago my parents cat was on the porch and my dad saw him tracking something in the yard. He went to check it out and it was the wisteria pods popping and sending seeds flying though the air. They tried to catch on on video doing it, but couldn't. Mom said it was very neat.

Happy Mother's Day, everyone!!!
I love wisteria. I have wanted wisteria and daphne ever since we moved here about 16 years ago, but everyone always says not to grow it because it will take over and tear things apart, be too heavy for whatever we use to support it, etc. I think I'm tired of living in fear, and it's time to just go out and buy some, already. There is a beautiful small house here in town, that has a very old wisteria trained up and around the roofline, and trimmed very carefully every year. It always looks beautiful, and the house is not falling apart, so I think one of these days I will stop by there and just see if they mind telling me how they do that.
I'm having a great day, my son is at work, my husband is out finishing the chicken tractor (putting the shakes on as roofing on the one end) and I have mowed the lawns until all our barrels are full. I need two more pallets to make a compost bin, and then I will start using the clippings in that way. I gave the big girls (chickens) one hopper full of grass clippings yesterday, and once they got over their fear of it, they had a great time scratching through it, looking for bugs, eating the tender pieces, etc. It's a good day.

Wisteria is beautiful and enchanting and it will grow and take over everything in it's path. Think of a kudsu and you have the growyh of a wisteria. If you plant one down here, it's best to put it as for away from your house as possible. Or you can plant them in the middle of your yard and train the plant to wrap around itself. Then you still have to prune it a lot. And it you do, it won't blume. They also send out ground runners that grow in front of your eyes. I had one on a fence and it grew into the chain link and ate the fence. I'm still trying to kill it. I found the perfect place to plant one, but it's in someone else's yard!!!
If you drive down the bayou roads around here, you can tell where the old homes used to be. The trees that have taken over are covered with beautiful wisteria and there is where you can really enjoy them.

Mom's wisteria is on the other side of the driveway from the house, not near any structures, but the chain lnk fence it's on has bowed out.

We uses to have a huge snowball bush that my mom grew from a clipping she got from the old family farm. The old guy that lived behind my parents didn't like how the "balls" would shed on his lawn for about a week or two every year (looks like hole punches) and "accidently" poured antifreeze under the bush killing it.

Twinner--that guy is an asshole, and needs a flaming bag of dog poo or vomit on his porch. What a jerk. My in-laws never actually did anything to anyone's plantings, but they did bitch endlessly about the tree that grows between their townhome and the neighbor's home (they share a single wall). I got so tired of hearing about those small leaves! There really weren't even that many of them. I guess when you get to be about so old, little things like that can seem hugely irritating. My mother used to bitch constantly that the neighbor's kids were playing basketball in their own driveway. Fer jee whiz criminy!! There are much worse things they could be doing! They were not even loud about it. It was just the sound of the ball on the pavement that bothered her. My in-laws were even threatening to sue over the leaves. Give me a break, already!
The guy who destroyed the snowball bush deserves a good poke in the eye. What he did was totally uncalled for.

Wisteria seems to grow wild here in NJ. At first I thought it was Lilac until I realized it did not have a scent.Ilove Lilac but can't seem to grow it.

I would love to have a lilac, but they don't do well around here. At least not for me.

I have three lilacs. One of them is pretty large, and came with this place. It is a lavender lilac. I bought a pink lilac, and my husband repeatedly mowed over it, even when I had sticks on either side of it to mark it so he would leave it alone. He didn't do it out of meanness, he did it because he is a dimwit. It lives, but has come back from the root stock, and is also lavender. I bought a third one in a dark purple. I think it almost died, the soil is so heavy and clay-like. But, you guessed it. . . it came back from the root stock. . . and is lavender. :::sigh:::
