Get the point now?

The latest job figures show 9.9 percent of the country still out of work. That inspired a group of unemployed Buffalo residents to appeal to the president in the form of a billboard along the route his motorcade took into town.

I doubt this will have any effect, but, at least they made him look.

Love it!!!! My son has been laid off since Sept 08. There is NOTHING out there. Brand new factory built for Chrysler right here in our town was shut down before it was completed. Many a heart was broken that day! Bankruptsy ensued. It has been a ghost factory and is yet to see completion. No workers, no jobs, as promised. This is what is happening all over America. Obama is a terrible president. I didnt think it could get any worse than GW, but dayum! This guy sucks a**. Lining Wall Streets pockets and catering to the banks and giant insurance companies. GW did this with big oil, Obama is in bed with the bankers. It's very sweet for them. Stinks for us. Great poster kids!!! Amen!

I am always amazed at those who think a politician, any politician, is going to "create job". Who can they do that? Who would ever believe that? Will they pull them out of a hat? Very naive people out there.

wtg buffalo my neighbor. They new this week Obama was going to be in town. I hope he saw this sign when he was in town.
I always hate to hear from the news stations that we are almost out of this recession and jobs are starting up again. RIGHT...

And PS: Congress is a bit hesitant to address new Wall Street regulations because of campaign contributions. It has been traced and Wall Street contributes BIG TIME to bothe dems & repubs. It pays for them to give them free reign and yet it has destroyed our country. WTH? This is not what Thomas Jefferson had in mind!! Turning a blind yeye to Wall Street's corruption may help them fund their elections but it doesnt help the people that vote for them. It only helps themselves. "Greed....is Good"! They truly believe that!!! It works for them, always has!!!

Kami, I agree with you. Do these people think Obama will see the billboard and say, "Oh, you guys need jobs, huh? Okay, I'll go get jobs for you." I understand they are frustrated but this silly billboard isn't going to do anything to make it better.

Sorrry "rox" but it was BUSH that started the bank bailouts BEFORE he left office! NOT OBAMA! AND … think back …who was in office September ’08? Hmmmmmm ….

I hate when people blame the present president in office for the sins he did commit BUT inherited from the previous administration. Our economy tanked while Bush was in office Obama is on cleanup detail!

i agree ICsillypeople!

Also that 9.9% rate is only counting the people that are on the first six months of inital unemployment benefits. Anyone on the 1-2-3-4 extention "tiers"(that is what my state calls them) are not counted in that figure.

I too was laid off but, I found a job thanks to stimulus money.

IC Silly People;

Bush "abandoned free market principles to save the free market", what a crock. Paulson, Geithner, Bernake, they are all still there with their heads buried in Goldman Sachs' pockets.

Obama added trillions to the deficit without much to show for it. But that is due to his misguided financial policies.

I don't like to discuss poitics or religion, but I do have opinions of both. But, let's face it. We as a country have done an awful lot to put this country where we are. We want the big pay checks but we buy cheap goods from foreign countries. How many of us are driving cars that are not one of our American icons? How many of these icons are gone now? How many of us buy TV's, electronic games, phones, clothes and even building materials that were made in other countries because they have cheap labor and they can make stuff cheaper than we can. We want the big pay checks because we think we are worth it. But when the companies can't afford to pay us and their bills and close down, we whine and complain. We are our own enemies. We are cutting our own financial throats. I don'r see a quick fix. You can't have American pride if we don't back America all the way. This is something I have been trying to make my students understand. I hope at least one will remember this in the future.

Except for working a month here and there, my son has been out of work for about three years. He calls himself a loser. Do you know how sad I feel when I hear him say this?

Yeah like the economy has only been bad for the year and a half he's been in office.
Whatever makes you people feel better.

It's pretty obvious what's going on here: God is angry at America for electing a Muslim. There is only one way to make this punishment stop: throw Obama out of office and replace him with Sarah Palin, who is a true servant of God. Only when this happens will America again be restored to its former prosperity and greatness.

Anonymous said...

Sarah Palin our savior? I want some of what you're smokin'.

How did they afford the billboard?

These people on the billbord are no geniuses here. I grew up in Buffalo and also went to college there and it is no secret or surprise that Buffalo has no jobs. Actually, they have not had any good jobs( above minimum wage) for 30+ years now. Even in most colleges there, there are posters advertising out of state jobs and your counseler will tell you to look out of state too. WNY is well known for it's unemployment and Buffalo has been losing residents for years. It is considered one of the poorest cities in the nation. That's why I moved out right after graduating. Now everyone I know there, works at crappy jobs even though they are educated. Instead of this advertisement, these poeple should have used that money to move out of state.

bored said...

Also....Buffalo's economic downfall has nothing to do with Obama. It has to do with the auto industries, steel mills etc leaving for cheap international labor which has been going on years before Obama was ever in office.

The whole Senate needs to be replaced.

Bayou Jane, we have no choice but to buy cheap products made in other countries. Thanks to NAFTA, nothing (or very little) is made in this country anymore.

Outsourcing our jobs to third world countries should also be stopped. When you have corporations running the country, this is what happens.

Anonymous said...

We have become a nation of consumers. Now everything gets made in countries that don't give a shit about the environment anyway, or labor laws.

Outsourcing everything makes us dependable on other economic trade, and if the Euro collapses, China is the only economy that can step in and bail them out. OUCH!.

I understand that as buyers we have to look for the bargains. I'm in the same boat as everyone else. It has taken us a long time to get to this point. No one president can be blamed for this. Like Jarhead said, it's time to clean house. I hate the fact that those good old boys are sitting in Congress getting financially healthy on our dime.
I really hate the benefits they have voted for themselves. That needs to be re-evaluated. Like any other job, they should be paid for their ability to do a good job.
And it shouldn't be so hard to get them out.
In the area that I am in, most people are uninformed about politics. And just don't care as long as the gov't. takes care of them. Our small town is mostly welfare. It sames me, but it is true.

And I too love Crabbie's outlook on life. It's always fun!

I am worried that my husband's job is in danger, and while he is a very qualified demolisher/builder/finish carpenter/mechanic, jobs are just not available.
I wish them all luck on their job search, but I doubt that the billboard made any difference.
The governmental situation here is dismal right now. Too many good old boys with too little concern for their constituents.

hi Jane and Christina,

Maybe this new political climate will bring change necessary for a prosperous America. Payroll tax suspension and a 2% VAT would stimulate the economy in the right direction. But as soon as Gov sees a money trail, they immediately think of newer entitlements for their voting constituency.

Have you seen who sits in the I.M.F. board of directors?--it's sickening to see our politicians playing world mover and shaker mortgaging our future and our children's future in return for political favors.

Christina, your husband sounds like a handy person; what part of the country are you in?.

The VAT would guarantee tax revenue from the millions of illegal immigrants currently here. They don't pay taxes right now. Instead they send billions of dollars back home through western union. Untaxed.

I'm all for legal immigration and workers rights, but the system is drowning law abiding citizens and bankrupting states like California.

If you live anywhere near the border here in Texas, you'll witness an endless trail of plastic bags, bottles, condoms, refuse and broken fences with cattle going wild and tearing up irrigation lines. Sometimes even bails of heroin or marijuana and cocaine, dropped by the mules when chased off by Colt wielding Hop-along Smith and his cow dog.

Jarhead; out!

Anon at 9:46 you need to chill out. "You people" refer to the ones that act like the economy is all a big surprise all of a sudden and obviously want a whipping boy. Obama is an obvious choice apparently. I can't help but see racism in these comments, thinly veiled.

Anonymous said...

Jarhead what did 9:05 say that you thought was so horrible and out of place. DD posted a political post, I think it is ok to discuss it. Everyone else is. I am not saying Obama is the answer either but he beats the hell out of the GW duo. I just get tired of people bashing him from the get go before he even took office. I knew no matter what he did he was going to get all the blame. This is proof of it.
This country did not get in this mess in a year and a half and sure as hell not getting out of it in 4 or 8 or probably ever, let's face it. WHO can step in and fix this mess? Nobody I am afraid.

Anonymous said...

9:05 has every right to their opinion. This isn't the jarhead's opinion blog.

"You people" is divisive and a thinly veiled sign of the same attitude this administration has.

GW fought two wars and started the rebuilding of our forces overseas after 9/11. All that cost less than a trillion dollars. This admin has put us in the hole for 12 trillion and passed a HC bill that keeps getting costlier and doesn't cover more than 26% of the population without insurance.

This is not my blog, but whenever I make any statement; I follow it with facts. Fact is that the Obama admin is not keeping us safe (thank God for dumb terrorists)-, and over half a billion dollars of unused TARP money is still available while unemployment hangs at 10%--

White House press Corps had to fire their Comm director over the fight with Fox News. All the bowing and apologizing for America overseas is despicable. The attacking of Doctors, Coal companies and Wall Street while not doing anything about Fanny and Freddie or Tort reform, or monetizing our debt...etc.

I don't get mad about politics because I know its a crooked game (Howard Dean said it "Trial lawyers own the Dem party( August 27. 2009 at the Jim Moran Town Hall in Virginia).

Obama is spending so much that a new political movement has risen. If I thought it was racist I would have mentioned the fact that Atty General Holder, you know, the guy that did not read the Arizona law but has been making comments on it for 2 weeks, well he also dropped a voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther party after it had been won by the state.

The people that will fix this mess are the ones that have not been bought by lobbyists, and all of us who are tired of the nanny state spending freely to lazy people who don't want to work, different from the ones that can't of course, and getting rid of politicians awarding themselves raises and monuments.

Corruption by a politician should be punished like treason. Not kidding- hang them for a crime against the people. That will clean up Washington.

You are correct Jarhead this is not your blog and therefore not your place to be monitoring comments with YOUR opinion or telling someone how to express theirs or to go to a political blog not here. Practice what you preach, you are the one spewing politics everywhere. It is all opinion no matter how you slice it. I get more of a "condescending vibe" from your comments than I did 9:05.
