When I need a break, I turn on the hose and tell Lis the flowers need rain. I don't even have to check on her because she'd never leave that hose when it's running, she's water crazy. The plants look good and I have Daisies ready to bloom and Iris. There are big Hollyhocks this year, this will be the first time they bloom. I set out yellow Snapdragons and moved some pink Yarrow, which is beautiful. Also coming on is Astilbe and many annuals from seeds I scattered. It should be pretty this year. I didn't really plant the annuals, I just tossed tons of seeds and they all came up. Parsley and Chives are particularly pretty this year. I planted all along the fence too. I forget what all I planted, but, whatever it is..it's up. I think if I saw a bare spot, I just planted something from my seed storage. It all works out.

Lis looks like she's having a blast! The garden looks really good, DD. So serene... Tell the old lady next door to keep her grubby paws out of there.
I swear to god we need to get you a stun gun.
Wow I still have snow in parts around here...and the only thing coming up are little wrinkled balls of rhubarb and some columbines looking like they're thinking about coming to life again...
Holy Cow! Spring has sprung at your house. We are like Frimmy here. Snow two days ago and our trees are just beginning to bud. I had five red tulips pop up last week and I hacked them down and brought them inside so I could admire them in comfort.
Lissa looks delighted to tend to your garden DD :)
so nice to share the hobby. Was Nikki sleeping
or inside the house today when this was going
on outside in your garden? Btw it's looking
very pretty do early in the season. Good job.
I do agree with Casper keep the olde lady away
from the plants. I still think you should go get some
chain and a padlock & keep her amongst all her
junk ooooooop s oh my I meant treasures !
Yeah all her precious & rare treasures ?!
LoL ;-)) Kiki
I love to see Lis in the garden. I think she will be a big help to you this season. Can't wait until Gabe is old enough to get his hands dirty.
Just watched DWTS. I just pretend it's me in all those beautiful dresses. And this is while I take three steps and trip twice! I'm so not graceful! (And all the pros have such small behinds!)
Seeing this makes me so happy for you. You deserve a pretty garden after the hell you've seen this past year.
YEAH!!! happy pix!!!! :)
I'm glad that cute little Lissa is a good helper for you, Pat.
Your garden is really looking good. I haven't been able to plant anything more, as we just got the tiller repaired, and my brother used it to till my mom's community garden plots first.
It looks like you went directly from snow and ice to beautiful spring.
Lissa looks committed to the task!.

I am so jelez! You really do have a magic touch in the garden. Maybe this weekend I can get some things planted. Seeds just never do well for me. But HollyHocks...once you have them they are all over the damn place! I am forever pulling them up away from places that they can't be! Plus, never ever shake a hollyhock plant. Its full of tiny prickly needles that get imbedded in your skin & clothing. I once shook mine to knock the seeds to the ground, huge mistake! Then we pulled the plants out of the ground once they were dead and got those prickly stickers all over us and embedded in our clothes/skin. I dont like holly hocks anymore. They get too tall & dont flower much. Not enough for me. But I have plenty, I may give a few a chance this year. It's an old-timey flower. Ever made a holly hock doll? You inspire me. I will be planting this weekend, if it warms up & stops raining. xo

PS: Daughter found a fabu garden venue for her wedding. It even has a pavillion onsite in the garden for the reception & can be an alternate site for the wedding when the weather doesnt cooperate. You can bring ur own food & booze. The gardens are so luch & full, no need for any excpet for the bridal party. They even hang a huge full floral drape over the gazebo for the vows, in the colors of your choise! It's not expensive either. Not too many dates left open tho. She has asked them for Oct 10th and hopes she can still book it. (Crosses fingers). If she can do this it will be tremendous! She still wants to do a luncheon type thing with finger foods and a cake & champagne, not a big sit down meal. She wants to keep it simple & less expensive and more fun for everyone. And all the guests would be free to explore the massive gardens and take pics & her pups, Madeleine & Huck Finn can be in the wedding too! We are excited! If it gets to be evening, they light hundreds of tea lights all over the gardens and fairy lights! Theres a small bridge for pictures over a lush planted pond. Should be beautiful, even in October. Hope it works out!! Thanks guys for all your help and ideas.
A pot luck dinner is the way to go. It sounds pretty.
Rox, I remember Hollyhock and corn husk dolls made by my grandmother in her garden, now it's my turn. I might have to look up how to do it again..lol. Yesterday I taught Lis how to snap a dragon. She thought it was magic.
Honestly, we are going to Hit Sams or Costco for the appetizers probably. Since there will be only about 30 guests, it wont be that much food. We are going make some of it and order the cake. She wants fruit trays & tiny egg rolls, meatballs in that jelly-chilisauce etc. We will furnish the food, its not a big wedding. We are going to make decorated/iced brownie pops tho. They are sooo darn cute! And they look like a flower bouquet in a Mason jar! Anything we make we will freeze and have ready to go when we need it. I am probably going to be shocked at how much work this is going to be! LOL...I am trying to be positive.
xo
I need a little rain maker myself. But all in due time.
Lissa looks very happy! Grandma always knows what's fun. How are she and the new baby (and family) doing DD? She must just be one excited little girl with all this going on.
Congratulations to your daughter Rox. An investment in a marriage is more important than an investment in a wedding. All the ideas sounded good. I planned my wedding on a tight budget and it can be done. It's almost 12 years ago so I don't know if anything would be useful now. Being able to bring food and alcohol is awesome. That is where all the money goes. And your comment about being more work than you anticipate is true. My mom really wanted to make my cake herself but just got overwhelmed. We got homemade cookies and she had the cake made as her gift to us. It's all about celebrating a new life together and having fun! Good luck and keep us updated.
Looks like Lissa loves nature. Excellent! My five year old granddaughter's favourite thing on sleepovers here with us is our obligatory nature walk. She has learned that even the 'ugliest' little creature is beautiful and fulfills an important purpose. This is so valuable. Even a backyard garden is it's own little ecosystem. Send some of that sunshine up here if you please.
Hi ya Pat:
I have been quite busy lately -- sorry I haven't been here much -- will try and make an effort, but when I saw this post I just had to comment on it. Your such a great grandma and you can tell Lissa just loves being there. She is growing each time I see her and such a happy child. Love how she just radiate such a happy glow about her.
Hope you are doing well too - take care.
Crystal
Hi to you, Crystal, we've missed ya.
MuserMom: Thank you! My daughter is a hair stylist and she hears it all. She also does lots of brides and wedding party hair. She alwasy hears "Don't spend a lot of money on your wedding, it's such a waste" and this is from ppl that did! Some are divorced now & still paying for their wedding. It is ridic. So, no way. Its going to be in that fab botanical garden with waterfalls etc and we furnish the bridal party flowers and the food & drink. No need to buy flowers for the wedding decor since the garden is the total decor dream come true! I might buy purple mums for centerpieces on the 6 tables we will have for guests. Its just so small and will be over by 3. Nobody is going to be tired and a guest of hers is giving her a luxury hotel suite night as a gift(she works there)! So, they can get there pretty much at check-in time and enjoy the suite for almost the entire day! Brand new Fabu hotel, downtown Indy. So she's pretty excited. Everything is going pretty well at this point. Lots to do. But I am not cooking any food. Warming it up is more like it. It will be fine. I may bake my special iced & sprkly sugar cookies tho, in her wedding colors. They melt in your mouth. I can do that several weeks ahead tho. So, no worries. Thanks to everyone!
