I bought a yellow Datura today. Yep, that is a Moon Flower, but, yellow. It has one bloom on it, nearly the size of a dinner plate! I saw it in the green house and my mouth dropped open. MINE! The greenhouse chicks laughed and said, we knew you'd be into it. Pagan greenhouse growers..omg. That place is Summerland under plastic.

never ever saw this before....omg i want one!!
Several of my neighbors have hugh clumps of white moon flowers, but have never seen the yellow one.
Beautiful!
I have never heard of this flower DD, it is gorgeous! What other colors does it 'come in'? I'm sure no one around me has anything like it, I've been to every nursery here in the past mo.
Tia, if it does okay, I'll save you some seeds. I didn't know they came in any other color than white.
Is this what we call trumpet plant in the south?
that would be awesome!!! thanks!
A few months ago I dreamed about this flower. I didn't know such a flower existed in the first place. In it I was flying on a broomstick and chanting, "Moon, flower, moon flower, take me awayyyy!" lol It was pretty interesting if I do say so myself.
oh!!! it's so pretty!! I've never seen anything like that...
It looks like what we call a trumpet plant. (Is this the digitalis plant? If it is, then it is the same.) But I've never seen any that were double. We have singles in yellow and a beautiful peach color. Daddy used to grow them from cutting. He'd just wack off a piece and stick it in the ground. He could make anything grow. I could never get one to live. Never had a good place to put it. But they are really nice plants and grow quickly.
They're so beautiful, the purple ones are pretty too. You're garden is going to be one amazing place!

Nope, Bayou, digitalis is Foxglove. I never can get those going.
10:08:00 Interesting dream because Datura is a halucogen. sp? Anyway, yeah, it might make you fly..lol.
there's a movie--well sort of a documentary....haxan: witchcraft through the ages danish silent film from 1922.....
on the dvd is an interview with the film maker (more like he's at a desk speaker) filmed i think in the 1940s...anyway, in his talk he says that a woman wanted to fly like witches and someone rubbed a salve on her back and she slept deeply and dreamed she was flying.....i think this flower was in the salve.....
That is probably the same thing. But I got my "drugs" mixed up. They do make beautiful flowers, but I have still never seen a double one before and you can make cuttings with the stronger branches.
Thanks for the pic!
Hey Pat, do the yellow and purple ones have the same medicinal value as the white? I'm about to start my seeds but I'll be moving before the end of the summer, so I'm putting them in pots. Advice anyone? :-)
That's a beautiful flower!!!
DD, the foxglove grows wild where I live....I have seen pink and white digitalis. We have the pink ones in our property. The soil and the climate is just perfect for them, they always come back in the same spots.
