Heidi's garden

Heidi's community garden is doing really well! You'd be shocked at how much food she'll get out of those raised beds. I love that first picture and I put it on full size so you can click it. Way to go, Heidi!

Thank you Pat and Jane.
We have harvested all the beets and now it is time to start planting fall crops. More radishes most definitely.
My Oldest is in charge of all the educational beds. 42 beds! Not including ours. I found out that she and the teacher get the bounty. So we have been sharing with friends and neighbors. It is alot of work (i help) to keep all those beds watered.
We are patiently waiting for the garlic to be ready! LOL

Heidi garlic can be braided after it's picked
and hung up to dry. It will last you until next year
gardening begins. Your daughter has a green
thumb that's for sure from these pix & it's only
the start of the summer ! Wow ! Good job !

Do you braid all them together? There are going to be about 12 heads total. I have never harvested garlic before. I was smart though. I knew you had to cut the whistles off! We made pesto with them.

I have leeks growing too and I never grew those either.

She is learning from me, her boss, and she is fortunate to plant in full compost! I planted our beds myself. She was too busy with the others.

Oh and did I mention I love beets?

I make this beet and potato salad, it's good with steak mmmm:

beets cooked peeled and cubed
potatoes cooked peeled and cubed
carrot cooked peeled and cubed

one red onion, julienned
one tomato, quartered and sliced
a handful of cilantro, chopped
the juice of two limes
olive oil
salt, pepper

soak the onion in lukewarm water, let it sit for a few minutes then rinse
add the lime juice to the onion, add salt to taste and let it sit a couple more minutes until the onion gets a little softer
add the tomato and cilantro, and olive oil to the onion-lime, and toss to coat everything with the lime and oil

mix the beets, carrot and potatoes with this salsa together

there you have it

I love this salad with steak and white rice. Mmmmmm.

Heidi you can braid them in threes and
depending on how many bulbs ( 36-37)
per section looks nice and dries nicely too.
The more bulbs of garlic on the braids the
heavier and droopy look will be the result.
It's ok either way for the garlic. Just depends
how you want to display them when it's all
harvested up. Garlic is so good for you too.
