Louisianna (sp) is the worst, grossest, most depressing state i have ever personally set foot in. And I've been to Michigan.

Don't drink the water?

Dirty Disher said...

LMAO! I'd open my car hood and take the oil cap off. Free oil, ya'll!

This is so awful. With Katrina, the poor federal response, and now this oil disaster, it is not going to be long before Louisiana is uninhabitable. How do you come back from this?

Kim said...

As an unwilling resident of Louisiana, I don't think we CAN come back from this...I'm getting out of this hellhole ASAP.

As the oil gushes forth from the bowels of mother earth I keep envisioning the void left behind the whole planet imploding on itself.

Me too.

That old adage, "don't shit where you eat"? Exactly what we are doing.
How do you even begin to punish those whose crimes are avarice and apathy? I am sure that those who are truly at fault here have covered their tracks and picked scapegoats so well that they, themselves will never be prosecuted. It pushes an otherwise peaceful person to thoughts of vengeance and violence. I truly don't even know how to start thinking about this. It is all just bad.

Tell me again why we cant nuke it?

I hear Russia has done it a number of times successfully.

CanMom said...

I AM SERIOUSLY GONNA FUH-REAK OUT ABOUT THIS I SWEAR TO GAWD - STOP THE FREAKING LEAK ALREADY!

( >_< )

FUCK BP! said...

All the politicians do is talk about suing, fining, and punishing while the fucking oil is still gushing. There is no one working for the govvernment that has even the foggiest notion of how to plug that hole - it'd be like asking aborigines from 100 years ago to fix your car.

We are screwed.

i bet they have some interesting three-headed fish in those waters. and they probably glow-in-the-dark, which makes fishing easier.

Christina #2 said...

Where the government screwed up was trusting BP too much at the beginning and not getting the president out to the Gulf on the first or second day to talk to community leaders to prepare them for what was to come.

Part of that is 'cause BP was hiding the extent of the problem at first.

"It's raining oil in Louisiana"

That is what comes from forty years of industry writing and enforcing their own regulations.

Have any celebrities rushed to the Gulf coast yet to help out? Celebrities besides Kevin Carpetbagger Costner?

Anonymous said...

So far I've seen Edward James Olmos, Spike Lee, and Trace Adkins on CNN using the oil spill to further their careers.

i called the larry king promo'ed all-star relief effort telethon to help rebuild the coast -- a 2-hour telethon....

i told them to fuck off. i'll give my money to environmental groups that do work down there.

assholes.

Update: The EPA sent this statement: “EPA has no data, information or scientific basis that suggests that oil mixed with dispersant could possibly evaporate from the Gulf into the water cycle.” But one of our readers points us to a report (PDF) from the former Minerals Management Service claiming that lighter crude oils can evaporate. So it might be possible that oil is mixing with rain.

FUCK BP! said...

Now these BP fuckers have bought a bunch of search words on google (oil, spill, etc) so they can control what comes up when you search.

I said last month that calling this spill Obama's Katrina was ridiculous, and that the Pubs who tried to sell it that way would find it backfiring on them.

That claim is beginning to have some traction in my opinion.

The story about how BP hired extra cleanup workers for that one day Hopey came to visit the shoreline was posted, and I asked myself "BP? Why in the fuck is BP in charge of the cleanup of our shores? Why in the fuck isn't the President hiring a shitload of people to do that job?"

It seems to me the Prez is doing very little but paying lip service. He needs to shut the hell up and ramp up a gov't-led cleanup job. BP can help or not - either way, they're getting the bill and then some. Hire the unemployed. Hire the illegals getting chased out of Arizona. Air a PSA to get more volunteers down there to clean. Hell, even his photo-op people are doing a shit job: Don't take pics of him standing alone on the shore looking concerned - it makes him look helpless. Put him in a fucking boat with a cleanup crew getting his hands greasy. THAT has an impact. THAT shows you give a fuck.

This thread just brings me down, mannnnn. If I were in the Gulf, however, I'd be rioting in the streets. It's kind of a big deal when your home is dying.

There has been an 8 cent tax on every barrel of oil drilled in the US or imported to the US. That's billions of dollars that may or may not have been used for its intended purpose of cleaning up disasters like this. Of course that money has probably been spent on other things like midnight basketball programs or legal size paper pads by now. The tax was just upped to 32 cents a barrel in May.

So where did our tax money go?!?

hi said...

Wasn't Kevin Costner supposed to save the world from teh evol oil spill with a machine or sommat? What happened with that?

Anonymous said...

Maybe this has been discussed, but how does BP losing 40,000 barrells a day of oil not affect prices at the pump?

Ropert said...

When BP goes belly up will Obama give them a big bailout check and take them over?

Can't we tow Guam to the gulf capsize it and plug the hole?

Anonymous said...

hey ropert,

what about some of Alaska?

FUCK BP and John Boehner! said...

"Congressional Democrats and the White House are toying with different ways to force BP to cover the costs of damages from the Gulf oil spill. But they face stiff opposition from industry…and it seems leading Republicans. In response to a question from TPMDC, House Minority Leader John Boehner said he believes taxpayers should help pick up the tab for the clean up."

Obama blame Bush yet ?

"Every asshole who ever chanted 'Drill, baby, drill' should have to report to the Gulf Coast today for cleanup duty" --

As soon as Cap & Trade Tax is rammed through Congress... They'll fix the leak.

FUCK BP! said...

When will the leak stop?

The day after Obama is out of office, BP with it's trillions of fucking dollars withh find some way to fix it with duct tape and piece of plastic wrap. I am convinced this is some fucked-up plan to get him out of office.

When will the leak stop?
When a republican is in the white house again. They'll know what to do to fix it.

When Will The Leak Stop?

When everything in the Gulf is dead.dead.dead.

I care more about the repairing the US Gulf coast than politics. You realize BP don't own the beaches that they ruined? They need to pay for every dime of destruction they've caused.

You break it, you buy it BP.

Or:

They go Bankrupt and...

1.We pay the bill
2.Thousands more people lose their retirement accounts
3.Thousands more jobs BYE BYE
4. We go from calling it a recession to calling it a DEPRESSION.

WhateverLeaveMeAloneGoAwayByeBye said...

I care about the small people. What about the poor illegal Mexicans in Arizona who are being denied access to our country? Instead we're worried about rich peoples beaches and a Swedish man who screws up his words like Arnold Schawzeneggar.

Let's focus on what really matters, ok?

When Will The Leak Stop? said...

These oil companies didn't care about people or the environment BEFORE the accident. They bought up our government and side-stepped or flat-out ignored every regulation humanly possible put in place to protect Americans and our country. And they did it for just a little more money. But NOW they care about Americans and the environment more than their bank accounts. Great because the United States should take all the assets from the company and liquidate all the CEOs and high-ranking corporate lackeys' bank accounts and put it into the clean-up. You guys wouldn't mind that right?

Anonymous said...

I'm sure that everyone ranting against the oil companies are riding bikes everywhere and eschewing plane travel for foot scooters, right?

FUCK BP! said...

Anonymous @ 9:38pm

It's not a zero-sum situation. We should be able to tap deep-water oil reserves without fouling our nest. Indeed, that's precisely what the oil companies said they could do.

CanMom said...

all the oil companies are now taking a serious look at their safety rules and regulations - but, they're kinda like a teenager speeding and driving recklessly - they thought they would never have anything happen to them.

Yes, that is the only choice.....cars or oceans.

We cant possibly have both.

You are a fucking genius.

The argument that is has only happened once in 50 years or whatever is bullshit because it only needs to happen once. Accidents happen, but you shouldnt be allowed to do dangerous shit unlesss you have a plan to clean up your mess.

FUCK BP! said...

I liked the "I want my life back" line because it exposed the fact that these multimillionaire executives generally don't work very hard.

ROFL said...

The argument that man must have poorly regulated offshore drilling or give up on oil entirely is a false dichotomy fallacy of logic.

Sorry for being such a stickler for logic, but these things really stick out to me.

Anon 9:30....as I have been watching and listening, I hate to say it, but the second part of your comment is probably the more correct outlook for the BP future. The "BIGGIES" are going to quietly collect all their money and leave the "small" people holding the empty bag.

Whateverleavemealone...you have obviously never seen the "rich man beaches" of Louisiana. Our beaches are not owned by anyone. And you will never see them in a travel magazine. Most of our "beaches" are erroding marshes.
And the rich people are hard working people living in extremely modest homes. Some of the homes would make the ghettos look luxurious. But the people live the life they know.

If you have learned anything from this site, you will know, our lives are what we make them. Good, bad, or ugly. Live for the good, work to get rid of the bad, and try botox for the ugly!

ANON 1:48...La. is NOT a depressing state. The situations that befall us ARE depressing. Nobody has a gun to our heads making us stay. There are problems everywhere, hurricanes, tonadoes, earthquakes, and wildfires and all these people could leave their situations, but they stay. Its our home and we are serious about where we live.
Actually, if you take 5 minutes to know us, you will see through all the trials and tribulations, that we are some of the happiest people you will ever know. We are determined in our endeavors to make a good life for our families.
We work when its time to work and we play when its time to play. And because we have all the problems we do have and have to work hard, we really know how to play and have a good time. I will take my "depressing state" over a dull state anyday. Yes, it's hard work and if you can't take it, then you don't belong here. It's not a life of ease. Everyone else is welcomed, even if it's just for the "good times" and we really want to share those with you. Maybe after leaving here, they can take back a better outlook on life with them.

Leisse le bon temp roulez! (Kiki...spell check please!)

Sorry about the rant. Someone hit my sore spot! You don't kick sick puppies when they're down!!! They will bite!!!

FUCK BP! said...

I wanted to apologize to Pat about all of our ranting. I told some people from my blog about your thread. Sorry we came her to bitch about BP. It was one of the few sites we could find about the disaster that BP hasn't bought yet.

Whenever you have a thread about BP and the oil spill "we" will be posting.

Americans, Americans like Bayou Jane, their voices are not being heard. We all need to have a discussion on this because it affects everyone. Please all of you contact your senators and congressman and ask them to do something for the residents of Louisianna.

Bayou Jane our prayers are with you, your family and all the residents of New Orleans.

Thank you Dirty Disher for this thread.
