A Mosquito takes flight

Mosquito's are a pain in the ass, but, these photos are amazing. It's the moment a mosquito takes flight from the pupa stage and climbs out of the water. I had a neighbor who told me she had strange tiny "fish" in her kid's pool and I went over there and looked and I said, yeah, those are mosquitoes. And she said, no, they look like tiny fish. And I said, they're mosquito larvae, dump them out. Geez, how you get that old in Iowa and not know how mosquitoes hatch is beyond me. Anyway, nice pics, they look like little aliens. The brothers who took these pics hatched the mosquitoes in their parent's house. Aren't kids great?

Ewwww! Just EWWW!!!! We have a flooded yard right now from torrents of rain and we had to get a bug light for all the 'skeeters. They are awful. I can't even look at this pic.

On a more serious note; dogs get heartworms from the bite of an infected mosquito. Humans get bitten by those same mosquitos yet we don't get heartworm. Anyone know why?

'coz we're NOT dogs?

escrow...I have to admit that I have never heard that one before.

Anon 3:39...good comeback. But in the same category of escrow's question, why don't mesquitos transmit HIV? I've had it explained but it just doesn't seem logical.

jane....i really believe they do spread HIV....i've read a good explaination.....they can transmit hepatitis, malaria, etc but NOT HIV?? i think the only reason they won't admit to the HIV spreading is because of the widespread panic that would cause....
