We've had bad storms the last two days so I've been without internet for two days and missed reading you :-(
It looks like we are going to get more today. We need the rain, but not the wind that comes with it.

I am happy today though. SC did win the Nat'l Championship in baseball last night. It's only our 2nd ever!

I leave for the beach Saturday so I can't wait to see my family. It's been since Christmas since I've seen some of them.

I hope you start feeling better soon!

think i'll continue that today.....

cooler out now....need to do yard work but can't over do it due to the vertigo i am still recovering from....suppose to go to ohio's largest flea market friday i don't think i can handle the 1.5 hour drive, all the walking plus i am several hundred in the hole for july!! so i'll just go in a few months.....

think that's about it....still waiting for some cards/letters in the mail....i think there's about 3 more coming.....i'm sending out whatever i have on tuesday as i believe there's no mail on monday.....

Watching the weather channel, keeping track of hurricane Alex. Worried that the BP Deepwater oil spill is on the east or "dirty" side of the storm, and hoping more oil is not dispersed on shore as a result.

Also following the Russian spy ring arrests on CNN. Apparently the investigation has been going on for decades! One of the astonishing things is that the information they were gathering and passing on by elaborate means is said to have been available on the internet.....wtf?

Also admiring Miss Tia's fabulous cherries and wondering about her Royal Family book collection. The British Royal family? They are pretty fascinatingly screwed up..and German!! I would love to hear more.

DD, Hopefully your virus will quickly run it's course, leaving you relieved and happy. Get well soon!!

yes british royal family.....i can't just toss out tidbits though as i could go on and on and on.....i've actually made a very close friend via this site and they are just as knowledgeable as me about the royal family....it's awesome to family have someone who has the same level of interest and passion about 'em! we talk for hours about the royal family!!!

once i get out of the tub i shall continue my cataloging....

i also discovered i have an elsa maxwell biography that Andre Leon Talley bought and gave to someone called 'The Baron'....inscription dated from 1976......

It is gorgeous out! (doing happy dance)..The humidity is gone. I was able to turn off the ACs and the fans! Woohoo!
What have I done so far?

-Took mile walk with hubs this morning.
-Walked the dogs
-Fed animals
-Watered plots at garden..I got corn tassles!
-Called eye dr to make appt (Friday) to pick up my new reading glasses. I am so happy about this. I have a stack as high as a dogs eye (higher really) of books I have been dying to read.
-getting ready to start the crisp sweet pickles to can. I have enough cukes to make a good batch today.
- and I did some research on my feet...
If it is not one thing it is a fucking `nother.
I have the back surgery. I am feeling great. I am moving, I am grooving, I am walking. I need to cause I gained 30lbs.
Then last month the heels of both my feet started to hurt. They hurt when I first get up in the morning, and when I get up from resting. They stop hurting once I walk around but by the end of the day..my dogs are barking. After some reading i figured out it is probably Plantar Fasciitis. I may have to wear fucking booties!
It can take up to a year to heal! WTF!
I am trying to be healthy and I keep ending up going steps back..
okay okay. I am done with rant..LOL

Tonite is going to be ribs for dinner with home made oven fries and some kind of summer squash recipe.

***Pat, Get plenty of rest. If you had what I had (sore throat, cold, cough, feel like crap)..it can last about a week.
I will be thinking of you!***

found out that my son can't join the marines due to "trace" marijuana in his system. He says he was around people doing it and must've inhaled it (bill Clinton Jr.) . I think it's more like he smoked it and thought it would be out of his system by the time he took the physical. I am so disappointed. I said to him when he wanted to join "you know they do a drug test , right?" , just so I could feel him out on the subject. He said "I know, that's no problem." At first I believed him about being around it. Now today with a fresh mind I think he did it and now he has totally screwed himself. sigh.

Sorry to hear that you're under the weather, Pat. Hope you recover quickly.

Today is nteresting - the weather is sparkling clear, low humidity (needed an extra blanket last night!), it's my b-day and my son is moving back in after a year on his own.
He's a good kid, has a good job (EMT/Dispatcher, volunteer firefighter), moved out last year to move in with his "honey" who managed to provide him with a whole host of problems including not contributing financially to their apartment living.
Hubs and I invited him back home after they broke up and she moved out. He needs to back on his feet. He's only 23 - it shouldn't take him too long. I want to see him having some fun.

valle,

Is he disqualified? most times you can get a waiver for marijuana. The Air Force Para Rescue / Combat Control program is outstanding, and a lot more comfortable than the Marine Corp. Yet we shared a lot of common schools and they deploy worldwide within a small elite circle of soldiers. besides, they get great training that carries over into civilian life, without the arthritic backs and blown out knees that so many Marines end up with. Just a thought for you and him from an insiders point of view and former Marine.

Miss Tia, My sister is a huge royal collector. Her dining room has tons of British and other world royalty related items. Including a Charles and Diana garbage can. (doesn't really collect the '77 stuff. Too much out there.) Someone just call the house out of the blue last week to ask if she wanted a scrapebook that her grandmother made about the King and Queens visit to Canada in 1939. It is pretty incredible. Her favorite item is card that was placed in the windows of stores saying they were closed for King George VI funeral. She got it from another person who was just going to toss it out, but thought she might like it. I found a tea cup at a second hand store last year and bought it for her, not thinking anything of it, just that she would like it. Turns out it is a tea cup for Princess' Anne's wedding to Mark Philips that she had been searching for. If I would have know it was that special I would have saved it for Christmas.

She is going to Toronto Tuesday to see the Queen and Prince Philip. (Philip is the only "major" royal she hasn't seen yet. She has seen all 4 "children") She had VIP seating for this event. Last summer Prince Charles spoke directly to her.

She was up early last week to watch Sweden's Princess Victoria (will be queen) marry her "prince charming" who actually called himself the frog prince since he is not of royal blood.

I guess I could talk about it forever too. If you want to see photo's contact me on the facebook group. She has lots of photo's up.

miss tia said...

beth---i looked her up and no, that wouldn't interest me...that's fiction.....i only read non-fiction and biographies/auto-bios about the royal family....

twinner---your sister sounds like my kind of people!!! :) Wow! the only memorabilia i have aside from books is a charles & diana wedding tray...a 78rpm recording of edward viii's abdication speech....i have some edward viii, edward vii and victoria stamps....and an Edward vii coin, george vi coin and a george v coin....rest is books.....

miss tia said...

oh twinner....the good friend i found via DD's, i just gave her a scrapbook for her birthday....a scrapbook from newspaper clippings during edward viii's abdication and their marriage afterwards (of course i photocopied a few pages!!) fascinating articles!!! they were delighted with it!!!

twinner said...

I put some of her photo's on the facebook group for you. She had 17boxes of books and 4 boxes of breakables when we moved last year. She actually donated 4 boxes of books back to second hand stores due to doubles and un-wanted ones.

She doesn't have very much Edward the 8th stuff. But has a tea cup made after the kings death but before the abdication.

I worked a 12-hour shift today. Not too bad, busy and a little weird, but okay.
Pat, I'm sorry that you and Casey J. are not feeling well. I hope this blows over quickly for you. It's kind of you to put up an open post for us to entertain ourselves while you are sick. Thanks.
Hang on, Kim. As the old saying goes, it's always darkest before the dawn. Have you talked to a doctor's office yet? I'm thinking of you, and hoping that you are doing okay. Anxiety is a tough thing to beat. I've had issues for years. I've only had to leave the operating room once, years ago, but that was a tough one to live down. Some of the meds worked well for me, and some didn't. In the past year, I have had some attacks, and have hovered on the brink at other times. There are, however, prolonged times when I am completely free of it, so keep on keeping on, and see what can be done for you. As for the issues with your son and relatives, I know it's a trite old saying, but I use it often for myself. . . this too, shall pass.
Heidi---your symptoms do sound like plantar fasciitis. I had that years ago, and it was miserable. It's something a lot of nurses get due to all the time spent on our feet, and sometimes not in the best shoes. One thing that was soothing for me, was to fill bottled water bottles about 3/4 full or so, and freeze. When you are going to sit down for awhile, grab a bottle and toss it on the floor in front of your chair. Roll the bottom of your foot or feet back and forth over the bottle, massaging the arch and heel. That gave me some temporary relief. I went through two entire courses of therapy with two different podiatrists, and have two sets of orthotics, had my feet taped, later had removable casts, that I would wear with ace bandages to hold them in place every night, got the injections, etc. My feet were considered a hairsbreadth away from being bad enough for the ultrasound "surgery", so I just used the inserts, the ice bottles, shots, etc. and eventually it got better. Very painful while it lasted though. I remember telling one of the doctors that standing up was like having a red-hot poker sticking straight up in my heel. Good luck with treatment.
Kiki---I never see you down. . . feel better soon. I used to watch Fawlty Towers, but it's been a long time ago.

found out a very cool guy I was mad about in high school hanged himself last week out in his garage. He lived in Texas. Dayum, why would anybody do that to their kids? His funeral is here today in our town where his dad still lives in the same house. So sad. Such an amazing guy. Pat, he had the required long hair and tall body. Looked like a rockstar and to me he was, back then! Driving around town at night just to see who was out and about, following a car with someone in it that you wanted to meet! Those were the days. 29 cent gas and all night to burn it up! He was a hawty in his fab brand new blue Charger. Thats how I will remember him, 18 and young & strong. He was 56 last month.

Maybe it's time for War and Peace Pat!- remember you thought about reading it. I want to find a good book to just read and relax.

Of course Harry doesn't want a DNA test if
he did he would not be a true royal ( lose his
3rd place in line to the throne ) and all that
goes with it never mind the omg scandal too.

Jarhead the best SK book I ever read was
called THE STORM OF THE CENTURY and
ROSE RED both frightfully good !! His latest
DUMA KEY was a bit of a let down compared
to his earlier works. IT was ok but not the scariest
book he's written IMO. Sometimes I think that
Rose Red has similarities to the real life story
of Annie Palmer in Jamaica. Does anyone know

unless it's out of her cold dead hands. Wills will
be king for a while with the long succession going
to Prince hot ginge ... King Hot Ginge lol ;-))

Kiki...I don't get that channel---I get BBC America. But I do have them on tape. I got them a long time ago. Our public station used to run all the British programs on Saturday nights and that was my night. My family knew not to bother me on Sat. nights. Another one I liked was Keeping Up Appearences and up until about 5 years ago, I kept up with all the DR. Whos. Light entertainment!!!

Rox, I am so sorry to hear of your old friend's suicide. It's such an empty and helpless feeling to be left in the position of contemplating how this could happen. Going past our neighbor's house on the way home tonight, I still feel the deep emptiness and despair of that act. The rest of the family is moving back into the house, but I really can't imagine what that is like.

Kiki---I adored the Queen Mother, too. It was a sad day when she passed.

I really do believe that Prince Hot Ginge is Hewitt's son. The resemblance is so strong, and he seems to have the same general nature.
It would surprise me if the Queen abdicated. I just don't see that happening, at all. I also can not picture Charles as King. Or Wills. I think that in the end, it will be Harry.

I have read SK books over the years, and IT is a pretty good one. For years there was a barge in the Columbia River, visible from the interstate bridge, that had the words "we all float down here" spray painted on the side. Gives me a chill right now, thinking of it.
My other favorite was The Stand, but it is very thick. As far as Dean Koontz, The Watchers was my favorite, though I remember one where computers in a California town were reaching tendrils out toward their users. I don't remember the name.
Another favorite book series of mine was the Thomas Covenant, Unbeliever series.

Heidi---I am so glad that the water bottles are giving you a little relief! The coming and going of the pain, not knowing when it will strike, and the severity of it, is just crippling. The first doctor who treated me told me to never walk barefoot, as that would inflame the tendons more. I don't remember if the second doctor said something similar or not, but I try to minimize being barefoot, just in case.

How are you doing, Kim? Are you still hanging in there? I'm hoping you are okay, and that your situation gets better for you.

Jane you have Bbc America I have BBC Canada
it's all the same channel BBC uk they just call
it different names depending which country it's
in. My PBS station shows it from buffalo & detroit

KUA is really good Pat Routledge is 81 !
Ever see AYBS ? It's set in a dept store called
Grace Brothers and they have a mens & ladies
depts a floorwalker ex army capt Peacock.
My favourite was Mrs. Slocombe in the ladies dept.
Mr. humfries in the mens dept. " I'm free!"
that show went on for over 10 years many many
episodes were taped and are rerun everyday still.
Young mr. Grace had a cameo and always told
the staff that they've all done very well. - kiki :)

Kiki...I loved "Are You Being Served"! And there was a spin off from that where the staff inherited a Manor and they lived there. The grounds keepers name was MR. Moleturd! There were many good shows then. Another one was "Good Neighbors". That was the one where the couple decided to become self sufficient and grow/barter everything they needed to live.

You sound like you have cheered up some. I'm glad.
