“Rowdy” — the kitten pictured above — was shot to death by North Carolina state trooper Shawn Houston who was subsequently dismissed from his job. He claims he was treated unfairly and deserves his job back.
According to court records, Houston said he was bothered by something climbing on his vehicles at home. He had also caught a glimpse of “an unknown animal” that jumped out at him “during the hours of darkness.”
Claiming that he was concerned for the safety of his three young sons, Houston baited a steel trap with ham and captured a small domestic cat. When he tried to remove the animal, which did not have tags, he scratched him. So Houston killed Rowdy — while the kitten was trapped within the cage.

The cruel asshole also paid a $125 fine for killing Rowdy. The cat's owner's say he was a sweet family pet and all the kids played with him. They also say they loved him and only let him out at night. Okay..why do cat owners think it's okay to let their cat run around at night and bother the neighbors? I aint okay and they shouldn't do it unless they live in the country with no neighbors. And yeah, I know I'll get some shit from cat lovers on here, but, you know in your heart I'm right. Not all people like cats in their yard. I still couldn't shoot any animal in a cage...I don't care what it did. That's the most chickenshit cruel thing I've read today. What an asshole that cop is. If they give him his job back how do they know that he won't shoot a person who's pissing him off next time?

AND..if Rowdy's owners loved him so much, how come he had ear mites? If you click that pic you can clearly see a case of ear mites. That's gross. Poor dude, he just lived in the wrong place with the wrong people and got killed for it.

Animal cruelty charges are in order here in my opinion. It takes a particularly cold hearted and sadistic son-of-a-bitch to shoot a house cat in a cage.
Jarhead
I wouldn't want to know a guy like that..I don't care what his excuse is.
I agree with jarhead completely. What a inconsiderate asshole.
He should be prosecuted in criminal court for cruelty charges. He is a lame-ass SOB, and I would not want him armed and prowling around looking for lawbreakers in my neighborhood. Have you noticed all the issues with police officers lately? I know how they pick 'em, and my husband did not get picked. He wanted to work as a reserve officer in a neighboring town to get his foot in the door as a regular officer. He applied, had a background check, including a credit report, multiple references checked, including previous landlord, friends, they went door-to-door throughout our small neighborhood and canvassed the people who happened to be home, about him. They also researched relatives, etc. Then they dropped in on me one day, and interviewed me about him. He was promised the job by the chief of police who said they would be very happy to have him, and then, after the psychological exam, they sent us a letter saying that he would not be accepted, and that he could not inquire as to the reason (but that it was a part of the psychologist's report) and that they would be happy to have him reapply, as he was eligible to do that, and be reconsidered. Who on earth wants to go through that again? There is something wrong with the way they pick people. Look up James Chasse in Portland, OR. He was a mentally ill homeless man, who was observed to be urinating in public. He was chased by the police for blocks, after which they physically subdued him by jumping on him, beating him down, and then didn't call for medical in a timely fashion. He died before the ambulance could get him anywhere. I am telling you they hire people with few brains, and far too much testosterone.
The guy who shot Rowdy needs to be removed from duty, and not be allowed a concealed weapons permit, either.
I am a cat lover, but I don't understand why people leave them outside at all. Our cats were outside part time when we got them, but I was too worried they would be hurt, and so they became indoor kitties---and were for the rest of their lives (15 years, 16 years, and 18 years). It's particularly mean to leave them out at night when predators come out looking to eat. I think that cat owners who leave their animals out are looking for trouble. The problem is that it's the animals that pay the price. Rest in peace, Rowdy.
My cats have a curfew. They have a cat window but 1 hour after the sun goes down, the window is closed and I round them up. Usually they are in the house already. They are what you might call "cushion and cream" cats. They like the good life of a comfortable home.
I forgot to add, anyone can be a cop in our area. The only requirement is you can't be a felon. But I think they had one of them one time. They barely make minimum wage, but the benefits are good. They're a few good ones but most of them are just lazy.
What a piece of shit this asshole is (is that redundant?)
That's just wrong. That's one of the reasons I don't have outside cats, our gray cat only goes out on a leash and harness. Fuck animal cruelty. That's just sad and unfair. Poor baby.
The fact that you noticed that the cat had earmites is sort of amusing.
The cop was probably teased as a kid and now that he is a big, bad cop, thinks he can commit any kind of crime and get away with it.
My wife was a dispatcher and I am a prison Guard. I have no issues and most of the police and my fellow guards are normal. Like any job there are a few nut jobs. But please dont judge all law enforcement officers as being fucked up because a few dimwits make the news. For every 1 of the screwups that make the news 20 other ones are doing there job to keep you safe.
