It's the biggest one they know of anyway. I've seen them that big around here, usually in the back of some redneck's pickup, parked at the beer joint. They live in holes in the river and give me the creeps. I hate them and I'm scared of them. The one's here are only caught hand fishing. I've never seen anything like that caught with a pole. Shudder. Nightmares.

Big hogs and giant Catfish, what a phobia. I shouldn't live in Iowa.
That is one Mother of a Catfish! Surprised it didn't break the line or the pole.
That hand catching; isn't it called oogling or noogling or something?
haha....in one of my classes we were talking about 'noodling' and found some clips on youtube....that's what they call hand catfish fishing in the south!

So, what do you do w/a fish that big? If eating it is an option, won't it be tough as shoe leather?
Yeah tia, noodling, thats it. I saw a whole show about it awhile back. Bunch of crazy ass beer drining hillbilles LOL. And Linda, yes that fish would taste like shit. Catfish are bottom feeders and he would taste like the bottom of river.
i read in the article they let him go.....
I like them fried. With cole slaw.
i tell ya, around here in ohio they sell farm raised catfish....they taste nuttin' like a mississippi cat fish (which are awesome tasting)....of course they aren't that big!!!
you can't find smoked carp in ohio either.....that's good too with beer....
He must have been using a steel line. I could see some of those noodlers tring to get this one. I have always been afraid of being stuck by their barbs. Yet none of the noodlers seem to worry about that! You think it could be the beer?
i've read some noodlers die....the catfish pull them under water and they drown...
I am from Western Kansas & heard in a couple of the lakes when the Fire & Rescue have done practice dives, some won't go back down. They swear they've seen fish as big as VW Bugs.
Who knows if it's true-but I'm not swimming in water I can't see through.
I love fried catfish, but then I love most food. sigh.
Noodling creeps me out. I watched a segment on Dirty Jobs where he went with a couple of rednecks and caught a few. At one point, he is squishing mud between his fingers and a small snake glides through them. He found out later it was a baby water moccasin. That's enough to keep me out of the water, right there.
I love deep fried carp. I know it's disgusting, but, man, I love it.
I wonder how many fried catfish tacos you could get from that whopper?!
