Meryl Streep is expected to star in The Iron Lady, the story of Margaret Thatcher. The press says Thatcher's children are "horrified" because the film depicts Baroness Thatcher as an elderly dementia-sufferer looking back on her career with sadness.*

"It is a film about power and the price that is paid for power. In that sense, it is the story of every person who has ever had to balance their private life with their public career."

The news about this film really caught my interest..I can't wait. Streep is a favorite of mine and who doesn't want to know about Margaret Thatcher's life?

and her and reagan both have/had similar diseases....coincidence or karma?
Will we wait till the movie comes out or just give Streep her Oscar nomination now? By the way this is perfect casting - a cold fish playing a cold fish.

I think that if you get to be old enough, chances are that you will suffer some mental degradation of some kind or another. The truth is that we all do a lot of things knowingly and unknowingly, that injure our bodies, including our brains. We can't help it. There isn't enough knowledge out there to help us (meaning that some of the medical knowledge we have is wrong), and the bad choices (that we know are bad) are all too easy.
I can tell you that in general terms, some very closely held knowledge in my field has recently been totally turned on its ear. Some things that we held as the holy grail, are completely being done away with, as they are now being found to increase tendencies to develop major health issues later in life. And these were supposed to be the immediate "go-to" items. It just blows me away.
I am sure that she and Reagan both did things that damaged their bodies, though they may not have had any idea at the time. Some things, like fast or really cheap food (like ramen noodles, probably) we know are bad, but we do regardless.
Anyway, I'm sure that the family are very sensitive, and maybe embarrassed about the issue, and may have had the idea that people will remember her as she was, and not see the state she is reduced to now. I feel for them. It isn't easy to see someone you know and love dwindle over time, and lose the sharp mind you are accustomed to. They probably have an underlying fear of themselves following down the same path, as they, themselves, age.
maggie and ronnie probably got it because they both were shitty leaders who made the rich richer and the poor poorer.....and maggie thought she was the queen....
This will be amazing. I loved Margaret Thatcher anyways and looked fwd to seeing her & what she was wearing. I thought of Madeleine Albright about the same way. I think she stole Margaret Thatchers image & used it. & it worked! The pins, the pins! What pin is she wearing today????
