Welcome Rebecca Dean

Here are the pics we've been waiting for! Rebecca was born at 6:38 pm on July 9, 2010, she weighed all of 9 pounds and 10 ounces and was 21 3/4 inches long! Biz says they will call her Becca. I think Rebecca Dean is a perfect name. Becca is a perfect beautiful baby and everyone is happy. Sam looks overjoyed to be a big sister and dad looks so proud. Biz, you look absolutely radiant. What a gorgeous family. A big congratulations to all of you!

Biz..I sure never looked like that after pushing out an almost 10 pound baby. Wow. Oh, and Becca + Dean = Bean!!! I love it.

Oh what wonderful pictures and a gorgeous family.
Yeah..I did not look like that either and both my girls tipped past 9 lbs each.

Thank you all so much.

I'm kind of a mess right now, the ped just came to discharge and heard a murmur in Becca's heart so they took her for EKG & tests. I didn't even get to kiss her goodbye. They said it could be nothing, but the thought that it could be something has me in pieces. The doc was saying things about holes in hearts and all the possibilities.

They can't do the test until 1, so now I just wait.

Beautiful baby, beautiful family. Congratulations.

Prayers to Becca and the family that all tests turn out OK.

Congratulations! Two beautiful little girls...what more could a mama ask for :) .

I hope that the tests go well, and I'll be thinking of you. You'll have to update us later.

Biz, we are all waiting with you. I'm sure she's okay. My mom has a heart murmer and she's 80. It's fairly common, isn't it? I know there are medical people on here. Becca will be fine, I just know it.

Biz, Lovely family. You look beautiful. My thoughts today with you.

Hey Biz, first let me say that you are all just a beautiful family. Becca is just as cute as her big sister - and that's a lot of cute! The hubs looks proud and you look stunning, girl! I'm so impressed!

That said, our hearts and thoughts are with you until you get the good word from the doc. I am sure all will be fine. Hang in there

Biz---what a gorgeous family! You look absolutely beautiful and so does baby!

I am a labor/delivery/mom/baby/breastfeeding nurse, and I hear murmurs all the time. Most times they are what I refer to as transitional. Meaning that the baby's circulation is making that changeover from fetal to newborn circulation, and some of those fetal structures open and close, depending on what her blood pressure is at the moment. Most often there is nothing to be concerned about. If it is persistent, and depending on how careful the pediatrician is, they will check it out. It sounds like the ped is careful, and most likely they will have a pediatric cardiologist read the EKG at some point. Most likely it will just right itself, though they will probably listen to her chest at intervals to make sure it does.
DD is right. . . lots of people have murmurs and live long healthy lives without any issues. Good luck, hope that this all just blows over and you go home relaxed.

Christina, thank you. So much.

My 8 year old son has a murmur and no one would ever know :)

Biz...can we still call here Bean? All my love to you and your family. I can't believe how good you look. I'm sending all my best wishes for the baby. Good thoughts to her health!

Whew. Everything is fine! Becca is perfect. Whatever the doc heard, the cardiologist could find on ultrasound. Said her insides were perfection. Pediatrician had me panicking. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Sorry to keep you all waiting, we're just trying to get out of the hospital now. I really appreciate your kind words and thoughts!

I can't wait to get home & spend some time with Sammy and get back to normal.

So happy for you Biz! She's just perfect. Funny how all of a sudden Sam looks so big! Those hospital pediatrictions are sometimes such doomsdayers...same thing happened to us with Joey and he was fine. Can't wait to see more pics!

Awwww, sweet baby Becca, welcome to the world. Biz, she's looking great! Now go home and get some rest, you're going to need it.

Dirty Disher said...

YAY!!!! Bean is okay. She's perfect.

Dirty Disher said...

Oh, they're letting you go home already? Wow.

miss tia said...

there's a hospital in another town around me and if you deliver a baby before midnight you are discharged at 1pm the next day.....13 hours later if you deliver right around midnight!!! it's ridiculous.....and they don't understand why so many new moms end up back at the hospital with infections!!

Dirty Disher said...

Yet, they won't let us deliver at home. At least not in Iowa.

miss tia said...

you can around here with a licensed mid-wife.....

Biz,

She is a beautiful little girl. I hope you are doing ok after having that lil chunky baby girl!

Would love to be able to follow your blog again.

If it is a normal delivery on a normal woman, there is no real risk of infection. Delivery is a normal process. As long as Mom knows how to take care of herself afterwards.

I am not in favor of drive by med services at all Tia, don't get me wrong. But the best place to recoup is at home.

If there are other circumstances, such as an invasive birth with episiotomy, vacume assitance, absolutly, more time is needed.

Someone young and healthy like Biz who is intuned with her body would most likely fair better at home.

Remember, hospitals are where you pick up secondary infections. They are crawling with bugs (germs). This is I know, because I work in a top rated facility, but who does the housekeeping???? Most are uneducated or non English speaking. I have seen them gloss over the required cleaning in an exam room, ER rooms are the worst! If I am ever admitted I would not touch a thing unless I saw it being disinfected.

So Biz, I am so glad you are home and I know between Ken, Sam and your Mom you will be treated like you should.

miss tia said...

well this one hospital is pretty bad.....i know about secondary infections....but still...they are truly drive by hospitalization....

Such a beautiful family. Children are miracles and babies bring such joy. Sam will do well as a big sister and you will quickly find your groove and get right back to being a great mother. Good luck to you, my thoughts and prayers are with you as your family transitions. Congratulations once again.

I haven't read through everything (took time off to watch the world cup---Spain won!!!) but I read as far as Miss Tia's comment about the hospital not allowing moms to stay beyond 24 hours. That is illegal. A federal act was passed a few years ago, and moms who deliver vaginally have an automatic two day stay, if they want it, and C-section delivery means an automatic 4 day stay if they want it. Often times we have c-section patients go home at the 3 day point as they feel ready then (or maybe don't like the noise, want to sleep in their own bed, etc.), but sometimes at 2 days, and sometimes at 4 days. If you deliver at 11:45 pm, that night counts as your first night, but if you deliver at 12:15 am, it does not. Weird, huh? The hospital has to allow the stay, but insurance often says okay, we just won't pay for that extra day, is my understanding. Once again, insurance puts the screws to everyone. If the timeline of 24 hours is correct, it sounds like a violation of federal law.

Christina said...

Fiona---I have to disagree. Emergencies happen when you least expect it, and we sometimes pick up the pieces after an attempted home delivery. By the time people come to us, the situation is often so grim . . . and all because people want to deliver at home. Sometimes it works out well for everyone, but there is no way I would ever, ever attempt it myself. Trust me, I do know what I am talking about. I can not give a single detail, but trust me, the results can be truly heartbreaking. Biz was very wise to go to a hospital to have her beautiful little girl.
By the way, I think our housekeeping staff does a wonderful job, and if there is ever a problem, we just let them know, and they are all over it. I should also mention, that any instruments used are meticulously cleaned by our material services. I would trust anything we have.

Oh, BTW, I am so happy to hear that everything checked out beautifully. I thought it would.

Congrats! And I love the name Rebecca/Becca-I would consider using it for my own daughter if I had one.

miss tia said...

well that hospital is violating federal law and it doesn't surprise me....

this hospital also wanted to amputate a broken thumb on someone and they said FUCK YOU and went to a hospital here in akron and they didn't believe the guy when he said they wanted to amputate his thumb for a break and they got the records faxed to them and saw it themselves!!!! i want a medic alert bracelet that says "IN CASE OF EMERGENCY AKRON GENERAL AND NOT ROBINSON OR ANY SUMMA HOSPITAL".....
