the way i am viewing it, is that he is trying to reach more americans in a variety of methods....the people who watch the view probably aren't watching the evening news or reading papers....

I agree miss tia. I'm not one to watch the president on tv when he's on at 9pm at night (I'm watching TLC or something else), so I enjoyed seeing him on the view yesterday. I probably haven't seen the president on tv since his inauguration.. haha

You know what really pisses me off? That PR stunt a few months ago where that couple crashed that state dinner at the White House. Yeah, so now that stunt is part of the debut show of DC Housewifes. Natural gas goes up every year, now. Why is that? We have forced air gas heat in our home and the winter bills are killers. My bills are cheap by some standards, but in an approx. 1800 square foot home, approx $400 per month just for heat in the winter. It sucks. My husband's family likes gas for cooking, and we don't have that, so my husband always says we should switch the clothes dryer and the kitchen stove to gas. Yep. That's exactly what we need. An even HIGHER gas bill.
Back on topic. . . I don't like the idea of Obama on the View. . . I don't respect that show or the hosts, but I see what Miss Tia is saying, and she may be right. That may be the logic behind that appearance. I didn't like the way they treated some guests, and conducted those interviews years ago, and so I haven't watched it since.
Why is someone like Elizabeth Hasselbeck on there anyway? The only thing I ever saw her on was Survivor, where she was babied by an older man I think was referred to as Country Joe. That's no basis for getting on a talk show as a host. Though I guess she does lend an air of extra foolishness to the banter. Maybe that's why they have her. It's certainly how she keeps her name in the news.
He is sooo boring. Doesn't he have other more important things to do? I am a little disappointed in his performance so far. Hoped for better from him.
Forgot to add that our electric bills will be going up on Jan 1. The PUC has capped Penelec's rates since 1986. That expires in 2011. Estimates originally were a 50+% increase, now it's bouncing between 20-50%. One step forward, 5 steps backward... Isn't life wonderful?

Re-reading my comment, I realize perhaps my sense of humor is not always understood, so let me clarify:
At no time have I ever contemplated suicide in response to being represented by that twit Hasselbeck. I have, however, wanted to gouge my ears out when I've heard some of nonsense come out of her mouth.
But seriously ladies, take the measure of intelligence that frequents this board alone and compare that with some of the "influential" woman in the media today. It's an embarrassment to think these people speak for us, that our daughters seek to emulate them. It makes me want to cry for our society.

There was a time in this country that when the president chose to make an appearance on television it was special, but now it appears that it is viewed as a way to get a particular "message" to a particular demographic in the never ending campaign mode of this administration. And blaming the media is really a lie if he does not 1st take total responsibility for jumping the gun with no investigation as well.

Unlike the current plan that is a lie and total loser. When so many lives of young men and women are in jeopardy we deserve nothing less. The Pentagon spending in February, the most recent month I found available, was $6.7 billion in Afghanistan compared with $5.5 billion in Iraq. That’s $12.2 billion per month.
The situation with BP still totally screwing the folks in the Gulf and the Coast Guard acting in the capacity of BP's cheerleader and PR group, I seriously wonder if any real inspections have been conducted on the deep oil rigs that have similar equipment. Salazar continues to be very unimpressive.
Lastly, the Obama Administration's claims that it wants to encourage greater public participation in government, this Administration is creating obstacles for Americans to submit comments on the Wild Horse & Burro program. The Dept of Interior released its "Wild Horse & Burro Strategy Development Document" which outlines the Obama Administration's direction for the program. Instead of making it easier for Americans to submit comments, President Obama's Interior Secretary, Salazar has actually eliminated the public's ability to submit comments via the traditional email and fax methods -- we are now forced to submit comments in one of two ways 1) US postal service or 2) online with specific directions. The online option does not work. The slaughter and roundups continue and Salazar, who is a rancher, is clearing the wild mustangs out of their homelands to make fat cat ranchers eligible to buy the land from the US govt. There is no science or research to support this plan and the federal Govt continues to proceed even though their is a court injunction that called for a moratorium on roundups, public hearings to create a program that protects and manages horses on the range, rather than warehousing them in crammed in government holding facilities, where so many have died in the last year. This rant of mine does not even cover the unemployment and housing mess. Obama has almost convinced me that he BELONGS on the View not in the Oval Office.

Tia, if you apply for assistance they will notify the utilities and they cannot shut you off while being processed. Even if you dont get the help, it might give u an extra few days. Sadly, I have been thru that. You can usually get some help from the county trustee too. But thats usually for winter heat bills. I had to do it when I was laid off and I know..its no fun! It made me cry.

I watched Obama on The View yesterday, and his appearance was well-received - appropriate for the time of day and the intended audience demographic.
One of Obama's platform goals was to make his presidency available to the public. I feel that this TV appearance was successful, regardless of my personal attitudes towards the sitting View panel members. They all respected the office, if not necessarily, the man.
The questions were wide-ranging, from serious to light (pop culture quiz) - amusing that he had heard of Lohan's going to jail, but didn't have a clue who "Snookie" is.
I really wanted to see how Elizabeth H. would contain her venom. She was respectful, altho she did attempt to throw a few digs his way. Impressive how adroitly Obama handled her.
To me, it's a relief to have a president who is intelligent, well-spoken, decisive and calm. One who makes his decisions based on the long term picture and not just a knee-jerk reaction to negative popularity polls.
After all those years of dumbo Bush, Obama is a drink of cool water.
it is on the eve of August and i am already worried about heating for the winter (oil). i am not prebuying. A very old oil company in our town just cheated a multitude of loyal customers (not me) by taking money for pre buys and then going out of business. i will just struggle through like we did last year.

I will not be voting for Obama in the next election. I think he is the type of person that thinks going on shows like the view is ok because HE is doing it. I think he completely lacks humility and that is a terrible quality in a leader, imo.
