Miss Tia sent me that..she know I love 'coons. Tia thought they were toddlers and didn't know where the mama was. Mama is out hunting to feed their greedy butts and they'd cramp her style. Females are hunters..males are more scavengers. Toddler describes their actions at this age, but, they're more like pre-teens in terms of trouble. You could probably coax them down with marshmallows and have them eating out of your hand (but, they'd never leave you alone after that.) They aren't dangerous at that age. They won't get grouchy until Fall. Have you ever heard "OH-woooo?" ..at night? It sounds sort of owl like, but, higher and more pitiful, and definitly with a question at the end. That's a request for identification. And then you hear a growly chir. That's the mom telling them, yeah, it's me. Raccoons are the smartest animals I've ever met and they have an amazing complicated language. They also pick up people languages faster than a dog. Nice picture, I love it. Thanks.

never heard that call, but i sometimes hear them making clicking sounds---best way to describe it....
I used to love raccoons, and I still think they're pretty cute, though I am terrified they will take interest in my birds.
When our son was very young, a young, skinny mother raccoon with three babies came out in the daylight at the place we were renting. I felt sorry for her, nursing those three cute little guys. She was so thin. . .
Anyway, I put out a little container of cat food for her, thinking it was high protein and would get her over the hump. She came back numerous times over the next few weeks, and pretty soon we had more and more 'coons coming. Eventually they got very bold. I remember my son in his walker, sitting five or six feet inside the front screen, pointing outside and saying "goggy" (meaning doggy) as he pointed out at them. They were so funny, as they would come on the porch for the little margarine tub of biscuits, pick it up and walk away on their hind legs.
As time passed, we had as many as 21 in the backyard, so I decreased, and then quit the feeding. The calls were interesting, and they were very cute, but for me it was all about that little skinny mama.
Cute picture. . .
I love that piture. I know I would love to have a baby racoon. But I know the time would come when I would have to give it up and that would hurt to bad. They are so cute and mischevious.
I'll take your word on the racoons. They are cute tho. You can see they personalities in their little eyes.
DD - check your email!
I know raccoons can be dangerous and I would not want to meet up with one, and I hope my cat never does-but boy are they cute!
Hey Biz...how are you feeling and how is that gorgeous baby of yours? Has Sammie seen her yet?
Take care of yourself.
great pics tia. Reminds me of when i was little going through the park. We always stopped to feed the racoons. I loved seeing the baby ones. They are so cute. Avas mommy
Bayou, you'd be a great raccoon mommy..you should volunteer. You can leave your name with tree service people. I got many that way.
