While I was offline for awhile, I watched a lot of TV. I know, kill me now. Anyway, I have seen enough cakes. Enough. I never want to see another idiot making cake. No more bosses of cakes, ace of freekin' cakes, sisters in cake, cupcake wars, cake contest and just fuck cake. And, by the way, just because a midget makes cake, it's still rice crispies. Fuck your cake in the ass with a bale of barbed wire.

that's a pretty neat looking cake there though! :)
i have to take Fluffy who is very very old, senile, partially blind, deaf and insane (always has been) to the vet today.... :( i know it'll be kidney failure and i gotta figure out where to go from there...i mean there's only one way to go, but how long i wanna treat it, etc....
Fluffy is a cat? I'm sorry.
Aww Tia, so sorry. If she's in sever pain I know it will be hard to see that continue. You will do whats best. Bless Fluffy's little heart. When our old cat, Samantha got senile, she started spraying crap all over the walls and bumping into everything. She had lost control. We loved her so much but she was dying and so we had to say our goodbyes. I still miss her and that was over 40 yrs ago :(
Now about cake shows. I like Cake Boss a little bit. But its so contrived just for the show, ya know? I hate it when its obvious that its for the show and not a real cake emergency or w/e...I hate that. I am over Ace Of Cakes. I like the Cupcake Girls of DC, can't rembr what they are called on TV. Its cute. But there are way too many cake shows. Who likes cake THAT much? Not me. Gawd, I gotta buy a engagement party cake next week. Then in October I am buying the 3 tier wedding cake & grooms cake. I will be on cake overload and I prefer fruit pie or a nice crisp myself. Oh well, I like cake. But I wont be eating much. Gawd, what will we do with all the leftover cake? Gaaah!!

yes, Fluffy the psycho cat! Official name Mohare because at that time all my cats started with Ms and ended in vowels! but she has always gone by Fluffy.....

Ditto, DD. I don't understand the cake baking shows.
Miss Tia, I am sending you good energy for strength in the decisions you have to make regarding Fluffy. :::HUGS:::
Miss Tia, sending good energy to you and your kitty, Fluffy.
bima
miss tia ~ ((((hugs)))) for you and Fluffy. Know you'll do what is best for your kitty. It's always sad when our pets get sick.
Rox ~ last year a friend had to get a cake for her parent's 50th ann. She wanted the cake to look like their wedding cake & it had to taste good. She went every where & the prices were out of sight. On a whim, she stopped at the bakery at a Super Walmart. They could do it, the price was actually lower than the original cake (50 years ago)and she said the cake was good.
Until these shows, I never knew they used Rice Crispies! What a waste of Rice Crispie Treats.
Has anyone heard from Ava`s? I did not see anything on FB from her but I will check again.
heidi---real quick before fluff and i go to the vet....ava posted the other day that she wouldn't be able to post while in the hospital but hoped to post pix i think this weekend???
thanks everyone for their good thoughts!!! i'll update when we get back!!!!
(((hugs))) for you Miss Tia!! and warm, loving, positive thoughts for Fluffy. Pets are just like kids, except they don't talk back....in English anyway.

Aw, Miss Tia---I am sorry Fluffy isn't doing well. I always feel so helpless when something goes wrong with one of my animal children. They can't tell me what's wrong, so I always worry that they are in more pain or discomfort than I can see. We had the last of our three kitties put to sleep about a year and a half ago. My husband says no more cats, but we will see. I hope that Fluffy is comfortable, and that you have the ability to do what she needs as far as treatments or decisions. It's not an easy spot to be in.
As far as all the cake shows, I am so over them all. I don't get the rice krispies reference, so I must have zoned out in those parts.
The only show that I like that has cake in it, is David Tutera My Fair Wedding. His creations are amazing. He takes these sometimes rough-around-the-edges brides and their bizarre wedding concepts (swamp wedding, in one case) and changes almost everything from the dress to the bridesmaids' dresses, the venue, etc. and the bride is always very, very happy (despite the fact that he retains control, and will not allow her to know which dress she will be wearing, from those she tried on, etc.). His weddings are amazing and completely over-the-top, but so much fun to see. You go from the bridesmaids in horrible, totally unflattering outfits, with a bride that doesn't want to change them, to very stylish and beautiful, different color and cut dresses and accessories, with the bride saying "ohhhh. . . that's so much better". I guess a new season will be starting soon. I look forward to it.
We found a local gal that actually has a fabulous website with pics and was recommended by several of my friends. We were originally going to try to make about 100 cupcakes. But we got real & knew we wouldnt be able tp pull that off properly. And how would they taste after being frozen for a month and I would have had to pipe the frosting on THAT morning as the wedding is at 11:30 a.m. Umm...no f'g way that was happening. I am also doing all of the food Waaahhh!!! Can't afford a caterer, so what else can I do. I dont even have food servers! I guess I will be working the whole damn time & miss everything. *sigh* Just want it to be f'g over. Sick of it all. She has nobdoy but ME helping her as she has no MOH and I guess I am stuck with the shower/engagement party too that was her aunts idea! Hello? I think they left town.! So, I am doing this. Am sick & tired of it and mostly because my daughter has turned into a major Bridezilla! So the other day I was looking at a party stores clearance bins and found a never been opened "Bridezilla" tee shirt for 50 cents and gave it to her. Told her she has to wear it everyday till this damn thing is ova!

Oh and PS: Tuesday we ordered her wedding flowers and they will be gorgeous. Guess from where? Our local florist at the grocery store! She just did a local doctors 2 daughters weddings and does lovely work at a much cheaper rate. Why not? Nobody cares! & they will be beautiful!
Rox---Is there any chance of having meat/cheese platters and having a pot luck otherwise? You might check around to see if a favorite Mexican restaurant or whatever you like could cater for cheap. We went to a wedding last summer and it was last-minute catered in such a way and it was great! The food was excellent, and no shortage of it, either. Good luck with the planning---that was a great idea to use a supermarket florist.
Rox, I'm sorry you have to do all that alone. Nuthin' wrong with simple food though, how about a big pot of chili and oyster soup with sammies? Fall food. Is that too simple? I figure if everyone gets fed and parties that's a damn good wedding.
Oh rox your doing toooooo much next time
tell Kelly & Aaron to elope ! Just kidding ;)
- Kiki :)
Tia I'm sorry your cat is sick. Hugs - Kiki :)
DD I spoke to Enrique / jarhead this morning
and he says to say hello to everyone. -Kiki :)
Oh I forgot about the cakes. Who the fuck cares
how to make a cake my only concern is that I
am going to get to eat it. Ita that rice cereal musher
up with marshmallow is not fucking cake that's what I
call fake. Oh and buddy valstro sucks donkey balls !
His mother is the real cake boss behind that
awful loud mouth bunch of tlc wack job realty idiots !
I'm watching olde clips of what's your line? On
YouTube it is addictive ! Great show !!! -Kiki :)
just got back and GREAT NEWS!!!!!! she does NOT have kidney failure!!! her blood work came back and looked fantastic!!! the dr. said she was probably slightly dehydrated from the past couple humid days we've had and that i did the right thing bringing her in getting her fluids because if she had stayed dehydrated that could have led to further health problems!!!!
I AM REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY RELIEVED!!!!!!!!
thank you all for the good thoughts!!! must have worked!!!! :) she's at least 17 years old and ya just think the worst!
YAY Fluffy! Drink up little kitty.
I'm so glad she's okay!
Aww, good. :)
Aww that's a sweet relief miss tia
Rice Krispie treats aren't cake and they're cheating. If you use rice krispie treats and call it a cake then the cake is a lie ;)
Every time I break down and buy a gourmet cupcake I'm disappointed and left with the conviction that I could have made it a lot better and charged a lot less.
1-I'm so glad to hear Fluffy is well. YEAH!!
2-As an antidote to cake shows, look at this site:
http://cakewrecks.blogspot.com/
These are honest to goodness professionally made cakes
3-I got married 2 years ago. We had the wedding at my brother-in-law's house. We had the ceremony there with champagne & simple hors d'oerves. I looked into having it catered. It was actually MUCH cheaper to bring everyone out to a restaurant afterward. They gave us a private room, everybody ordered exactly what they wanted. They even let us bring our own cake (Costco, it tasted great). Everybody got exactly what they wanted, tea, coffee, expresso etc. Again, I say, including drinks (alcoholic too), it was cheaper than catering. That doesn't take into account that I would have had to either rent dishes & glasses or use paper. I'd have to clean up or pay somebody. I would have to rent tables & chairs or have people eat while juggling. It worked out well for us but in your case it will depend on how many people are coming.
If you look up reviews on Carlos's bakery where Cake boss is filmed, it gets horrible reviews. They say the help is rude just like they are on TV and he pastries are WAY overpriced. Because of the TV show filmed there, the line goes down the block to even get in there and the prices have skyrocketed.
The Ace of Cake bakery, Charm City Cakes, their cakes start at 1000.00. No fucking way would I pay 1000 bucks for one of those cakes that everyone touches with their bare hands and has their messy dirty looking hair flinging all over the place. I also read reviews that said their cakes are NOT good tasting at all.
I am so done with all these "scripted" reality shows. So many of them are fake.
The only reality show I've recently started watching is Animal Hoarders on Animal Planet though I have to stop. I sit and cry with the hoarders and for the animals and know how easily that could be me.
"I never want to see another idiot making cake" Bwa ha ha ha!
I actually like the Food Network Challenges, which sometimes include cake. Other than that I agree with you. Watching people make cakes is boring. Especially that Buddy guy on TLC who is so rude to everyone. I hate him. And I'm tired of Duff Goldman and all the weirdos in his shop, particularly the guy named Geoff who is way too calm and quiet and reminds me of one of those people who turns out to secretly be a serial killer. UGH to all of it.
I dated a pharmacist many years ago, and his sister was a gourmet chef. She made the best cupcakes ever, and occasionally, she would give him cupcakes for the two of us. Dark chocolate, filled with cheesecake was my favorite. I've never found any cupcakes near as good since. I probably never will. Bummer.
Oh Miss Tia I am so happy to hear that Fluffy is alright & all turned out so well!
@Silvia, cake wrecks is hilarious!
I like the "how-to" shows (cakes, fashions, home repairs)in general, but I don't watch a lot of them so I guess that's why they still interest me. I also like the "how things are made" shows. I really love Bridezilla too. I just wish I could slap these girls. They are mean to everyone. And I can't believe the guys they marry put up with it. I would leave their butts at the alter. I'm not saying that the guy should be "the king" in the marriage, but he should have a set of balls bigger than "his wife to be".
So glad to hear your cat is okay Miss tia!
take care, Liz from NZ
