Jackie wouldn't have been caught dead in that

Katie Holmes playing Jackie in that mini series..but, something is very wrong there. I looked at Katie and thought, oh, my..that's just awful. The suit hangs wrong, the sleeve length is wrong, the material is crap, the hems are unpressed and bulky. Jackie was a style icon, she was impeccable. The costume department for the mini series is some kind of a joke. Katie looks dressed in one of those cheap Jackie-O Halloween costumes you can buy for $20 bucks. Katie should have asked Suri about it. Suri could have told them how to dress Katie like Jackie. I'll bet Suri is mad now.

and jackie had poise and class....katie does not....

Katie looks more like a flight attendant than Jackie O.

Flight attendant was exactly what I was thinking, too. And Jackie's clothes were more tailored.

Jackie's original suit was a Chanel....Coco would be rolling in her grave with the one Katie is wearing. Have to say Katie's Chanel purse is a good one!

The fitting is AWFUL!!!!! Look at the fabric pulling over her boobs, from armpit to armpit! The pattern maker and the seamstress should be fired. My mom has been a professional seamstress for over 40 years and I have been sewing informally since I was a teenager, none of us would EVER allow ourselves to make a POS kind of work like that one.

Ever heard of press as you go? Especially suits!!!!! Gosh this makes me so mad.

I can only echo what everyone has already said, she doesn't capture Jackie's essence at all.
That little woman Suri needs to know that being willful doesn't make you a great stylist. Bet she'll bully her way through life.

Meissa, I wish I could make my own suits! I love wool and am always ogling the nice stuff at the fabric store, but don't think I could make anything Cassini-worthy from it. I was hoping to learn though, before I move to the tropics where I'll never need a suit!

I thought Jackie was always a Chanel person.

I told you she should have asked Suri!

Yikes, look at the bunched-up skirt. And the jacket looks like it's so tight she can't move her arms. Didn't they measure this girl beforehand?!

The costume is definitely sloppy and she totally lacks the poise. What an excellent word.

Suri wouldn't know anything about that. I sure wouldn't want to be the one who makes her mad. On second thought maybe that would be hugely amusing.

Didn't the costume dept. do any research?

probably most of the budget was spent on getting a star of her caliber (HAH! made me chortle!)....not much left over for proper costumes....

And Jackie was intelligent and well educated. Katie seems rather vapid; but they both married for money!

Nattie, it is nice to be able to make your own stuff sometimes! I think I've only made myself one major project in the suit department (it was a long blazer denim coat) and it was a lot of work. Pressing and lining. I have photos of the process cause I couldn't believe I was making it! Here's the final, on my FB. I prefer making tops and dresses myself, but my all time favorites are pants!

My mom sews for a living. She is commissioned two or three wedding dresses with their respective bridesmaids dresses each year. She also has an annual commission by the local bellydance school to make performance skirts, pants and dresses for the dancers. She usually works by herself, except when she has the bellydance work, then she hires one or two people...just way too much to do!

She HATES having help, she's way too OCD when it comes to her work!

Here's a clip from one of the shows:

The only ones that are not hers, are the black dresses in the candle number, the big black caftan (those were bought in Palestine), and the four layer chiffon skirts (these were overflow work given to another seamstress). The black sparkly skirt/top are my work from when I still lived in Ecuador, I made those in 2003 and they've been using them for a few shows now. My mom hates working with knits and I love them. But glitter/sparkle dot is EVIL!!!!!

The one thing I loooove bragging about is my mom's and my sewing ability!!! That sure gets me wound up!

Do other people get lost on Google & youtube the way I do? You just go from one thing to another, until you don't have a clue how you got there.

I was looking up Airline Stew. uniforms from the 1960s and lost my way. This is where I've spent the last 10 minutes.

Had forgotten how cool the colors & graphics were... Makes you wonder what they were smoking ;) I still have a couple rolled up in a closet.

CJ those are AWESOME!

Meissa ~ I applaud you. That coat is great! and a lot of work. I use to sew, but always took on a project that was too complicated. EX: high school Home Ec project... I wanted to make a suit out of suede cloth. It finally got done with the help of my teacher and my mother. Jackets are not the easiest to make. And, yes you must press constantly as you go & do fittings. Did make a few more jackets after that (one had 32 pieces to the pattern!), but stuck mainly to easier things.
Whoever made the Jackie O suit took a lot of shortcuts & never did fittings.

Beautiful garments, Meissa!

I think dress making is becoming a lost art. I definitely don't have a knack for it, too bad I have a desire for well-made, well-fitted dresses, coats and pants. :(

That jacket is too boxy and katie just doesn't have the grace to carry this outfit the way Jackie did. Seems to me that they should be able to identically copy a first lady's suit and fit it as well to the actress. Bad casting, but I can see that they went for Katie because she has a similar facial structure. Even Chanel can be copied, no?

Jackie was making her 1st public appearance since baby Patrick had been born & died. She had been pregnant just weeks before this but this suit Katie is wearing looks like a maternity suit. & a tacky one at that. Junky fabric. Jackie didnt wear a maternity suit to Dallas, much less a cheap, poorly made polyester one! Do they think Jackie's public will NOT notice? The only people that will be watching will be Jackie-philes anyway and they could have gotten that iconic suit correct, even if the rest of the costumes were not exact. I will watch this if it's on a channel I get. If not, meh. I won't care. I did watch parts of Ghandi y'day & 13 Days(about the Cuban Missile Crisis & Pres Kennedy). Both great movies about historic happenings. I enjoyed both very much. Had forgotten how awesome Ben Kingsly was as Ghandi. I remember the night he won his Oscar for that movie. But he became Ghandi. Wonderful man & I am going to do some research about him today. I am so intrigued. I am not well today guys, at all. Wont be on here much. I love you all. TTL
