I'm sore as can be! My brother's Great Dane attempted to bite me Sunday. He's on a runner and my Grandmother, who is always around him, took me to see him. I've never been around him. I was at arms length thank goodness. I put my hand out for him to smell and then I petted him. When I went to pet him the second time, he jumped up and latched onto my bicep. I yanked it and his teeth scraped the top of my skin. I ended up on the ground and he scratched my back also. I don't recall if I fell or if he knocked me down.
I went straight to the doctor who gave me a tetanus shot and put me on antibiotics.
DHEC called my brother and told him he couldn't do anything with the dog for 14 days. He wants to get rid of him now. He has a 3 year old and is afraid of him getting hurt or something worse happening. He also knows that no one will take him knowing that he's bit. Plus, he's 5 years old.
I love animals to death, but this really opened my eyes up about petting strange animals. I've never once thought anything about it, but I'll try to be more cautious next time.
If I had been just a foot closer, it could have gotten ugly.
I don't know if I slept wrong last night, but my back is hurting today and my arm is throbbing.

I can comment on that, actually. When I was a child, we were visiting my mother's aunt, who had a German Shepard. We were warned to stay away from him, he was a chain. At five, I must have fancied myself a younger Dr. Doolittle, because I thought for sure I could pet him. He lunged and bit me above the eye, knocking me down to the ground. Thankfully, I went to my stomach and covered my head with my hands. The dog put his paws on my shoulders and bit me 22 times in the head. Lots of blood and a very, VERY insane mother. That dog got his ass kicked sideways.
went to ENT yesterday...he's 94% i have meinerre's disease in my left ear....i have an MRI tuesday and go back next month....bugger!
gonna try to work on my allergies and anxiety to see if that'll relieve my vertigo spell frequency!

Palmetto girl I saw the pics of the scratches! How scary. I'm glad you're ok, but damn!! I would never get close to that dog again ever!
Tomorrow is opening night for the Vaudeville show, and I'm freaking out. My stomach is in a knot, this is a completely different audience than what I'm used to....last night we had tech rehearsal and tonight we have dress/makeup rehearsal...which means I need to do shit to my hair and see what works....At least I got my numbers corrected and practiced, I rented two hours last sunday at the local dance studio for mirror time, so I set up a video camera and recorded my practice...video is such a useful tool for practice! Costume is almost ready...need to get the mirror belt done...
I'm glad you're okay and it was minor. I hope it doesn't scare you off big dogs. Most Dane's are lovely and sweet. It's a shame when any dog bites..then you have to deal with it and it's always awful.
Forgot the moral of the story: Strange dogs are unpredictable. Hope you are feeling better!!

My kid used to do Boxer rescue. If they get to a proper foster home, those people can do wonderful things re reeducation/ training.
Palmetto Girl---sounds like you have some aches and pains from your fall, and maybe from trying to yank your arm out of the dog's mouth. That is scary. It's really difficult to say what will set a dog off sometimes. I think I've posted about it here before, but I once watched my best friend's pit bull, who was sweet and mild as can be, suddenly go nuts and try to eat the mailman. The mailman had done nothing to stir the dog up, I can vouch for that as I was standing a few feet away and saw the whole thing. I hope you're feeling better soon.
It's been raining off and on since three or four yesterday afternoon.
I need to dig my butt out of my chair and go put the pot on for chicken soup. I have everything I need, I just can't quite get up to do it. I need to do a ton of laundry, too, but I don't like using our dryer right now. It has made horrible dying-machine type noises for a long time now, but we couldn't afford to get it fixed. My husband opened it up, and fixed some of its issues and vacuumed it out, but it still is loud, and a little scary to me.
I'm also toying with the idea of fixing the ceramic cooktop on our range. The biggest burner has a crack through it, so I have carefully kept all moisture away from it so we don't have a short and lose the function of the entire cooktop.
Our house is a shambles, too, as we have had a series of garage sales. Everything got torn up when we were sorting out things to sell. Time to put everything away.
I know, this is boring as all get out, but it is what is going on here today.
It's my birthday today. I have now been an adult as long as I was a child.
Our cat Sadie has now scrached a bald spot at her right temple. It is red and raw and looks very sore. We have clipped her nails, yet she is still at it. Poor baby. I am going to get some aloe from the plant at work and put it on it. We had a cordizone shot before to stop the scraching, but she is allergic to it and lost fur. I'm thinking about getting her a cone.

CJ - He did call a rescue site. He had to leave a message though, but he hasn't heard anything back yet. Hopefully he'll hear something soon. If that doesn't work, he will keep him. He asked me if I thought he should put him down, and I told him no. I think it was a freak accident and I don't blame the dog at all.

Love you guys so much, thanks for letting me come read posts and comments. My nephew is staying with me so he can go to Santa Monica College. 17, sweet kid, only child and spoiled. He got hit by a car last week while skateboarding, got away without a scratch! Lucky him. Comes from Vero Beach and hasn't quite got the whole City rhythm. I told him to be careful, wear a helmet and hope for the best. I don't have kids, only dogs, birds and horse. Now I know why. You Moms are amazing! Christina, send some rain down south! We haven't had any in over two weeks and none is in the forecast! My grass is beyond crunchy! Maybe one of the hurricanes will bring us some rain, just rain though.

PG ~ what about the breeder? Often a good breeder will take the dog back if you can't keep it. (but, sometimes they just have it put to sleep)
Has the dog ever had any obedience training? My kid took in two fosters that were around 5 y.o. She teaches obedience and CGS at her dog club ... worked on the fosters & they turned out great. (these dogs were never socialized) She also had a foster that was uncontrollable and returned it to the rescue group. All it wanted to do was attack her boxer.
I doubt my brother would remember who he even purchased him from. I think he got him out of the paper.
He's never had any obedience classes.

Strangely, I am not afraid, unless they start acting aggressive, then I get pretty nervous. Out walking a couple days ago, I had a boxer come racing towards me, barking her head off, owners outside yelling for her to come back. She had that galloping gait where her haunches looked huge and I just stopped and turned around. I panicked and didn't know what else to do. I figured if she was going to bite me, I'd rather take it in the ass (so to speak) than in the throat. She ended up turning around at last minute and running back to her owner.

Angie, that running at you bark/growly thing is real typical boxer behavior. I've noticed all of them do it and enjoy it. They usually mean nothing agressive. They just really dig it. Strange. By standing there, you totally did the right thing.
Dalmations do that to, but, they mean business. If you run, owch.

Our local SPCA is having its last dog wash of the year this weekend and I'm going to take Co Co. I can't imagine not taking care of her. She's my responsibility and she depends on me.

I went out and checked on the eggs. Petunia went nuts and jumped off the nest when I threw them some black oil sunflower seeds. We are keeping them totally indoors for awhile so that they know where home is.
Checked the tractor, and the little dug up area where the egg thief entered, was deeper and broader. If Tuney and her eggs had not been moved, we would have lost more.
It's wet enough here that the dogs get wet and sit in the mud up front, and come in with dirty butts and feet. I just bathed them in the tub on Sunday, so I am miffed.

So my birthday is coming up soon and my estranged dad sent me some money. He had already sent birthday money to my brothers. He put a note inside my envelope that basically said "In the interest of fairness I have to send you some money too because I sent it to your brothers, even though I shouldn't." My brothers are estranged from him too and didn't get nasty notes. My dad hates me because I'm a girl, he never wanted daughters. He also hates me because I have a bad heart and am unable to keep up with "normal" people, and he is embarrassed by this.
I wish I could afford to send him back the money and tell him "Keep your damn money" but I am too broke. It is not a large sum (a few hundred) but I still need it. Fuck fuck fuck.
Also I feel depressed because I had to get my beautiful tabby cat put to sleep last week and I miss her. I had to have another wonderful cat put to sleep in June and I currently have a very elderly cat who will have to be put to sleep soon as well. I adopted them all when they were already elderly and now they are all dying at once...it breaks my heart. :(

I'm so sorry, Alison. It's not fair to have all your kitties fail on you in rapid succession. All of ours had to be put to sleep within a relatively short time. I feel for what you are going through.
It's too bad your dad can't appreciate you and your brothers. It's truly sad, and most likely, some day he will regret it. Enjoy or use the money well. Don't give it another thought as to where it came from. Undoubtably you deserve to have it, and it sounds like you need it anyway.
About 5/6 years ago I signed up for a dating service and got nothing out of it, well and large charge on my credit card and the phone number of a guy I knew before they set me up with him. (he was in love with my former best friend at the time.) Anyway, I get a phone call today from the re-incarnation of this company asking if I was still single and interested in hearing what they had to offer. I told them that I have been married for 2 years. Told hubby and he said I should have told them that I was interested just to find out what it was all about and then say opps forgot I'm married.

So sorry about the dog bite Pal. Sucks for everyone all around.
I had a rather boring day that had a bit of intrigue. I cleaned out my food pantry. Took me all day. Pain in the ass but how am I going to know that I own 3 packages of food coloring, 4 unopened jars of peanut butter, and 8 cans of corn? I need to look in there before I go shopping more often.
Intrigue number 1. Some idiot left their suitcase near our local convenience store gas pumps. Cops thought it was a bomb. Closed off the whole area for a couple hours. It was clothes.
Intrigue number 2. My asshole neighbor had a butt load of top soil delivered to his house yesterday. Piled high right in the middle of his driveway...tarp down on driveway.
He neglected to watch the weather. We are going to have a really big rain storm any minute now. Lots of wind plus cats and dogs.
He is out there feverishly getting the dirt into his wheelbarrow to transport it to the back yard for who knows what.
He annoys me.
it's gotten so dark with a storm the street lights have come on!!! hope we get a good storm with thunder that'll shake the house!!!!!

we're having the last of our Washington summer weather, celebrated with what else but Washington Rain! Nice. I will be leaving in a couple of hours all dolled up for dress rehearsal, and I don't own an umbrella. I don't think anybody in Washington owns one! :P
I'm back. Hubby came home for lunch, and son was still here, so I was a short-order cook. Everyone's gone now except me, my doggies and the birds.
It must be the change in the weather, but I feel like I have arthritis in my left hand. Right behind the knuckles.
Chicken soup is doing its thing on the stove, and I am considering giving the girls the last of the watermelon. It takes up too much space in the fridge. (So do all the eggs.)
I work the next three days. I don't know why that sounds so awful. I have plenty of time off.
My husband went out and checked the tractor. He agrees that whatever stole our live egg was back. I have been talking game camera for months now. Today I am talking cows and barn doors. It would be interesting to know what was out there. (It would also be valuable to know who did what if any of the neighbors act up.)

Police/Fire: Male 'maxi pad bandit' wanted by police

Police are investigating an incident of shoplifting that reportedly took place Monday afternoon at IGA Market.
An employee of the Broadway market called police at 1:03 to report that a male from among a "group of kids" had stolen two women's sanitary pads from a package of eight.
According to police, the suspect apparently pretended to check to see if he had enough money to purchase the eight-pack of Maxi pads; when he realized he didn't, he returned the box to the shelf.
A check of the box revealed it was short two pads, the store employee said.

Ok, so what I did is I watched "Watch what happens" with Andy Cohen. (on DVD) then I thought about how Ramona and Cat probably NEVER have to clean a kitchen. Then I looked at Cat's thin thighs and I thought to myself " Anne, (Anne is my real name) maybe if you got your fat fucking ass up off this couch you might have a chance at thin thighs again like Cat. So now I am half way done with cleaning my kitchen. But my thighs are still hidiously fat.
oh well. At least my kitchen is half clean.
But the reason it is super dirty is that I have been making tequila drinks all night. I just got back home from 2 weeks at our "cabin" and I feel like getting fucked up. But on the other hand, I don't want to wake up manana to a filthy kitchen.

Kina putting 2 of your comments tgth'r here. I have been hearing that pot smoking just may alleviate some of mennieres symptoms. If thats th case & I am a candidate for a Rx pot card, i would really have to think about using that. I think my kids would die! Altho, when their aunt was dying of ovarian cancer, she was prescribed Marinol, about $14 per capsule. & Nobody stocks it!! So, eventually she resorted to having her son fire up a joint for her when she was in much pain. I would consider it, but would probably not actually do it. I would get the giggles if I actually went into a Pharmacy & slid that Rx in the window! OMG! I would die!! I would have to go out of town for it! But Tia, honestly, I have heard it can help and I believe thats true.
