American hiker Sarah Shroud was released by Iran on $500,000 bail. Shourd was arrested along with fellow hikers Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal on July 31, 2009 after straying into Iran from Iraq.
You tell me what she was doing there. Stay your stupid mother fucking granola looking ass out of Iran and Iraq. Go hike in Yellowstone or Canada. Dumb ass.

Exactly!!! Who the eff even wants to go there for any reason? No wonder they suspected them! Idiots! When they got caught, it's like all the other dumbasses, "Why the hell were you there? Its your own fault!!". I totally agree. Don't go to hostile countries to f'g hike! Gawd, that is a lame excuse. So, the CIA DID pay the "ransom"? Dayum, I heard they said no to that demand.

They won't say who paid it. I've wasted enough time on her, there was no good reason to be there. She and her buddies are fucking idiots.
yep....why the fuck go HIKING in that area?!?!?! stupid fucks....they should be left there.....i don't think the US should be helping them....you do stupid shit like that it might be an example to others....
remember that kid michael faye i believe, about 15+ years ago an american in singapore i think and he went out and i think did graffiti and got sentenced to so many lashes from a cane? it became an international incident...but you fucking go to another country you gotta abide by their laws---and what he did was against the law here too.....
Miss Tia, did he write graffiti? I know it came out after that, that gum is outlawed there and if you get caught chewing it or spitting it on the ground, you go to prison. I totally remember him but not what he did exactly. I see no reason whatsoever to go to a country thats hostile to American citzens. There are too many other places to go. Just don't go there. Its not hard! Canada is bad enough to get caught being suspicious in. They will hold you indefinitely for no reason, and then release you & they dont have to tell you a damn thing either. Canada is almost as bad. Eh, they have bedbugs in Iran anyways, don't go there cuz you will bring them back on the plane & then it's in your house & we all have them eventually!!

i can't remember exactly what he did....he did something though.....
yep, don't go to hostile countries....they couldn't hike in the grand canyon????
I have to point something out. Everyone here notices that it is crazy for an everyday normal person to hike in Iraq close to the border of Iran. So that leaves the observation that these people if they were not crazy were probably spies for our country, and our government probably paid their bail. They weren't idiots just spies doing their job and got caught. Our government has to deny this so that they aren't shot or worse. They do not look american so how did the Iranians know this and how did they happen to just find them hiking-lucky iranian's. Probably someone betrayed to the Iranians where they were and who they were- no other explanation for finding them and detaining them, it is a large rugged border-and think of our border with mexico and how many cross there unnoticed.
Watch them on You Tube and then tell me the US government employed these tards in any way. Nope. They be the "really special forces."
They should have worn burkas.
Ate you sure this isn't a photo of one of the guys?
look at those idiots who worked for al gore's channel and then the guy jimmy carter just brought back....what the hell is it with stupid americans going places they shouldn't and then whining and crying and then who knows how much money is spent by the government to help get their asses out of the problem they wouldn't be in if they just used COMMON SENSE....
OT, DD sent ya an email with a theory someone had with my weird pictures...i'm going back today to take more pix from the side street....might do it after dark too with the flash to see what i pick up.....
Just like taking a cruise on a ship nowdays...you ain't coming back!! LOL!! Someone is gonna shove you overboard or kill you & throw you off the ship. Someones always missing from a cruise!! & never seen again! Just don't go there, again.
cruises are scary....you got pirates to contend with and then there's illnesses on board....and yes, the unaccounted for deaths....
Canada has bedbugs too. Just a heads up.
unaccounted for deaths on cruises?! yikes
NYC has quite an outbreak of bedbugs too!
Thanks DD for speaking the truth. I haven't read any of the comments yet...I'm just so grateful you mirrored my thoughts! Thank you for validating me!!!!

Exactlly -- I am tired of these dumb asses using all of the state dept resouces when they had no business being there "hiking". Two of them lived in Syria so they knew what they were doing. By the way, who paid the $500,000 bail? And I am confused-- is the bail a pay off or is she going to return to Iran for a trial???
Yes, Miss Tia, excellent memory! I remember Fay and his graffiti and the caning.
Beth at 3:03 wasn't me...

I think we all know why she and the others were there. As if these people said to themselves one day, "Hey, you know, it is pretty darn dangerous over in the middle east, especially Iraq/Iran, so why don't we, just regular-ole-middle-America folks, go for a hike there". Come on!!!
This is an interesting discussion. I understand what you all are saying, but. . .
1) Bedbugs are all over the U.S. now. There have been many news articles about this recently. Even 22 years ago, when I attended a Health Dept. conference at a well-known Hilton, the state entomologists found bed bugs in their room.
2) I think there are a lot of people who are dumb enough to visit countries that are hostile to the U.S. Years ago, I had a friend at work who went, with friends, to Iran. Think just before the hostage crisis. She described to me how frightening it was in some areas, with people all around their car, pushing and shoving, making what sounded like threats, throwing rocks, etc. Out of all the places in the world, they went there. I asked her why, and she said it was just what the group she was with wanted to do, and it sounded interesting.
3)Maybe they were spies, but it's doubtful. Sometimes it's just the luck of the draw, whether you get caught or not.
4)Why should these dumb-asses be jailed for doing nothing but being there, when diplomatic personnel from hostile countries can basically get away with murder, here, due to diplomatic immunity?
5) Most cruises are safe, and quite luxurious. My in-laws went on them before my FIL passed, and I know people at work who go on four or five a year. They have been on cruises where they caught a bad cold within a few days of setting sail, but that was the only negative I've heard. If you don't go to parts of the world where pirates are allowed to rule, you will have no problem in that respect.
Seriously, these people should have been released, and banned for life.
My name is Beth (aka Sprite) and I posted at 3:03pm. Pat knows my real name is Beth...I wasn't trying to assume anyone's identity! I used to post here in years past all the time. I'm no troll, although I feel like I've been living under a bridge ; )

hey sprite!!! welcome back!!!
christina, that is a good point about diplomatic immunity...i saw somewhere that diplomats owes millions in parking fines in NYC but they don't have to pay 'em!
Ooops Sprite - Beth....feels weird writing that lol! Didn't mean to offend; you're the first other Beth I've seen here....
As my eldest son would say, "My bad"...
Sorry!

Of all wonderful places to go hike here in the US...and here in WA there's some beeeeeeyoutiful and breathtaking areas... :head desk:
Re:cruises
Even if you gave me an amazing cruise trip as a gift I would say no thanks. I don't do boats of any kind.
OH HAI Sprite! *waves* How are ya doing girl!
Talking about cruises reminded me of a story I've been wanting to share. Around the anniversary of Katrina, people were calling in to a New Orleans radio station with their stories of the hurricane. One woman told a really scarey story. The man who had been her husband for many years traveled in his job and was away from home a lot. He had planned a cruise (for them) which was cancelled because of Katrina. During Katrina, he died--I think she said he drowned. After things died down, she found out her husband had been married to another woman all along. He had also taken out a huge insurance policy and was planning to get rid of the her during the cruise. And the first wife knew about the second wife. I hope this news eased he mourning. I know it sure would have pissed me off!
Oh, and if you feel the need to hike, we have a lot of beautiful national parks you can go to. I think it is a little weird to go to a country that we are at war with. And because everyone else wanted to go is not a good enough reason. It's like having a picnic on the beach at Normandy during WWII.
Yes, Miss Tia! They can get away with almost anything, and no-one calls them on it. It's not right. Add it to the long list of things that are not right in this country.
Creepy story about the man who drowned and the cruise. I hope that eased her suffering, although it might have made it worse.
I totally agree about the issue of going someplace crazy like Iraq or Iran to visit or hike. It just doesn't make sense. I work with someone who has family there, and went back a year or two ago, with her family, and I thought that was crazy enough. Why on earth go if you don't have any ties there?
That girl looks like the rapper Eminem.
Spies don't get diplomatic immunity, of course, but lots of diplomats who do get immunity are spies as well.
No Greyhound buses either. Esp if there is an insane asian guy onboad with a big knife!!! & NEVER fall asleep on a bus while traveling. You could end up losing your head!!!
