Boston gets oxygen masks for pets

BOSTON (Reuters) – The Boston Fire Department on Wednesday received a donation of small oxygen masks designed for pets, which will become standard equipment on every fire truck in the city, officials said.

The 60 masks to fit small snouts were a gift from the WellPet pet food company and the Massachusetts Veterinary Medical Association. Like oxygen masks for people, the masks are intended to help lungs recover from inhaled smoke. "Smoke doesn't discriminate," said Fire Department spokesman Steve MacDonald.

I read that and thought what a great idea for doing something good. I wonder if our fire department has any of these? Does yours? It's a charitable thing that seems actually obtainable.

I hate the way charities try to suck you in with guilt and phone pushers. Donate an anon drop in the endless bucket for "awarness" of something awful. Gawd, it makes me tired and I'm poor. This seemed like a sound idea and something you could actually see.

Don't think ours have them. Have seen articles about several house fires w/ pets involved. Most of them didn't make it.

Did see in the paper this week that a catholic university in town donated two Ford Explorers to the city fire department. Awful darn 'nice' of them since they don't pay any property taxes on their buildings.
2 Explorers = 50 - 60 thousand.
Property tax = 100 - 200+ thousand.

I just wanna say that I wub that kitty! What a good boy for modeling it for us! We recently had a fireman around here that saved a cat with CPR & breathing into its mouth. It did survive. Those guys really care. A fireman holds a special place in my heart. I cannot say the same for cops. Sorry.
