But, I know the whores who use the food bank here. I know exactly who they are. They are that pushy retarded chick who bugs me and other worthless people exactly like her, who have never worked a day in their life and go from church to church each month getting hand outs so they can spend their welfare checks on drugs, booze and Oprah tickets. Now, I'm pissed.

To add insult to injury, on the way out, I heard them trying to take $10 bucks from another lady and she quietly (and shamefully) said "But, I'm using my food stamp card." And they still tried to get it from her! I happen to know who she is too and she needs the food stamps for her own two kids. She's a working single mom. I am really pissed. These do gooder causes when you're stuck in line make me sick and they're sneaky as all get out and for a no good cause. Fuck me. I'm eating a baa-loney sandwich..it's what I could afford.

This really pisses me off and is wayyy over the top. You spoke clearly and plainly about your donation intention and the cashier is pushing the store's scam on customers. I don't know if you have a choice of another food store but if you do I sure would not give my business to this one again.
I'm really pissed and not willing to let it go. I haven't decided what to do. I really don't mind donating to something real and what I can afford, but, this is evil.
I want to make it clear, that our food bank is decimated every month by these same people who leave nothing for anyone who really needs it. I know that for a fact.
fuckers....and it's a pre-picked out package of food that they package---which means it old stuff they can't sell....
there's some people who really need that food and then there's others like you said or my neighbor who would rather get food bank food than actually spend her money on food as there's beer to be bought every night!!!
next time that happens and you say no and if they get pushy (cuz i know they will) say "are you trying to make sure you have food to eat once you lose your job?" or "do you get a commission? cuz you sure are pushy".....
i'd contact the store and complain....and if it's a chain, contact their office as probably the local store would just say 'oh sorry' or something...
I think I will call, but, I have to wait until I'm not so mad.
I tell you, welfare frauders are on my fucking shit list. And people (assholes) who bitch about their fucking asshole tax dollars. It's there for people who need it. Bless them. Fuck the rest right in the ass. With a bale of barbed wire.
OH >>>> and a ... how much did the store ACTUALLY donate? This just a PR bonus. The store wants all to know what a community giver/leader/good deed doer they are .... by shoving their "generosity" cost on their customers! They probably use it as a tax write-off too in some sneaky coporate creative accounting method!
EXACTLY. Man, I am so pissed.
That was a horrible thing to do to you. How many people can really afford to give a $10 bag of pre-picked groceries in this economic climate? I don't care what anyone says, the recession/depression is not over. I wonder if what was in those bags really added up to $10 anyway?
I really do hope that you follow up on this, Pat. It is unconscionable to cheat people out of money in this way, and to attempt to use the other woman's food stamp card for this purpose. Wouldn't that be illegal? Maybe someone higher up in the store needs to hear that this is happening, and that you are speaking to them, rather than calling the agency responsible for that poor woman's card.
I allowed the feed store to round up my bill yesterday, for breast cancer research, but it was less than a dollar, and they never put any pressure on. It's just a simple "would you like to. . ." and that is all. Actually, that's all I hear locally, too. I've never heard anyone put pressure on. Is this a chain store you are talking about? Someone higher up needs to hear this.
mayor bloomburg wants the dept. of agriculture to prohit NYC-ers from buying pop with their food stamps for a 2 year period as a study....massachusetts is doing an experiment with their food stamps that give people .30 more on their food stamps for every dollar their spend on fruit and vegetables...
i am all for those things! i get food stamps and i don't buy pop, junk food, etc...and it pisses ME off when i see people with food stamps buy 90% JUNK with their food stamps....it's ridiculous!
I hear ya on who collects, at times, too.
I'm sure my neice does, and she is able-bodied, but knows how to work the system.
When I get "ripped off" like that, I just don't donate for awhile till it all evens out.
And I would complain to the store. You'de be surprised how important image is to them.
Kate
Bullying people for charity! Real nice. I try to give my change to charity boxes and give away my old clothes and stuff but I don't want to be HASSLED to do it. That is wrong. the only people who should be hassled to give money are all the useless rich celebrities who never give a dime to charity. I would support hassling them!
Soda with food stamps..here's how I feel. Food stamps are meant to supplement your grocery buying and if pop is a regular part of your diet, then I see no reason why anyone should bitch about you using food stamps for it. I get tired of seeing all the carts with crappy food, but, honestly, the most expensive food is decent healthy food no matter what you use to pay for it. I get tired of people bitching about what people on food stamps buy. It's none of their damn business.
You hit one of my favorite rant subjects. The cheats that know how to work the system!!!! I get these chicks at my desk in the winter... The W2 has 4000 - 10,000 in wages, they have 2 kids (now it works for 3 kids). Now I'm good at budgeting, but there is no way you can support a family of 3 or 4 on that income. They get welfare b/c of the kids & low wages, rent, heat and child care assistance, food stamps and free medical. Because of the low wages & having the kids they receive the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and the Additional Child Tax Credit on their tax return. Last year most of their refunds were about 50% of their wages. Cool, make 6000 - get back a IRS refund of 3000 ! Then to top it off, most of them have the current boyfriend illegally living with them (and helping to pay the expenses). Of course many of them feel totally entitled to this money. What pisses me off the most is when they see the amount, they'll comment on what they're going to do with that money. ...buy the tykes the new Wii or other gaming system and games, buy the new 48" flat screen TV, take the darlings to Disney World. There are the sensible ones that are going to catch up on bills, but those are few and far between. Because, with most of them, it doesn't pay to get a full time job, they'd loose all the freebies.
sorry for the long rant.
most people don't use food stamps to supplement their food buying, i know i don't the months i get food stamps--it's my whole food buying, no food stamps, no food....but i know it's set up to be supplemental...they need to check that, as for most people it's their only way to buy food...
i can understand your point DD and i am sure you see it too--the carts with pop, junk etc....
CJ--right across the street!! this year though her ex hasn't lived with her, but she'll make him lie on the tax return about his residency so she can get that $8000!!! she buys herself clothes, electronics, restocks the liquor cabinet, etc...total bullshit stuff....
Tia ~ I know, I see a bunch just like them. He'll claim the kids, even tho they don't live with him b/c the GF is on welfare and doesn't file. ... ah, 'Someone' needs to claim them. (NO, the State is the one that provided for the kids) Otherwise they'd miss out on all the free government bucks. Now, if the dude is the BIO dad & lives w/ the kids (and the GF), then ok it's legal. And if these people are really 'smart' they go to the food pantries & get the free stuff. Then they can go to the store and get all the treats with food stamps. I'll get a handfull of single guys every year that try to claim the kids, but tell me it's only them & the kids (no GF). RIGHT, I'm sure these slimeballs are taking care of a houseful of rug rats. They don't even know what the kids look like. I ask them so many questions that they finally get pissed off and leave. ... buh bye. Been doing this long enough I can smell the lying sacks o shit. And these are the refunds that are frequently held up by the IRS. They get a letter basically saying PROVE IT. They will request tons of documentation. If they already received the refund before the letter goes out ... good luck getting your paper work. If you can't prove it to their satisfaction you have to pay it back ... or have your refund nailed for years to come until it is paid back.
I stopped at Walmart yesterday to pick up a few things and I noticed this young family with three little girls. All dressed very cute, Gap Kids, it looked like. New sneakers for most of them, Mom and Dad included. I end up behind them in the checkout and I see 10 cans of frozen juice, two gallons of milk, Cheerios, etc and right away, it's obvious that this is a WIC purchase (Women, Infants & Children). Now, I really don't care one bit, except she pulls her WIC coupon out of her Coach messenger bag ($250) and then, proceeds to argue with the girl about something that wasn't ringing up. "We do this ALL THE TIME! It ALWAYS goes through!" The girl gets flustered and pushes it through and I watch the mom give the dad a sly smile.
Now, I know the clothes could come from garage sales. So could the bag, for all I know. The designer shoes? Not a chance. The attitude? She was handing that out for free, thanks. The point is, take your subsidy that you may or may not actually deserve and stop being an entitled little bitch. And while you're at it? Leave the fucking designer bag at home, so people like me don't automatically hate blood suckers like you.
Well...if her husband was the sole bread winner and he lost his job (like mine did), she might have purchased the expensive stuff when he was working. Attitude needs to go though.
On another note. I say NO loud and proud when anyone asks me to donate. If they press, I tell them that I have my own charities that I donate to (and vetted to make sure that people in need get more bang for my buck) and NO again.
I would be completely pissed off too. You were too dismayed or caught off guard to make a comment or rectify it to your liking and should bring it up with the store manager.
Our neighborhood store is extremely present in the community and we live in a very economically downtrodden neighborhood. I have no problems donating and I have never been set up in such a way. That is disgraceful.
As to who needs food stamps and what they should buy with them, is such a difficult, sensitive matter. I don't judge. I know some milk the system, while many others don't. I don't care if they buy soda instead of organic water. Fresh fruit, vegetable and organic produce is so prohibitive cost-wise, they have little choice.
But asking the "general Jane/Joe" to give such a huge mark up for their "charity efforts" only accentuates what is wrong in how we address these issues.
I reckon the best thing you can do is go back, allow the same transaction to take place, but this time let the whole fucking checkout queue wait while you reverse the transaction. Because if you do others might follow and even if they don't you will have wasted everyones time and the checkout chick and management is not going to like that. I would do it over and over again until they stop forcing you, and other people, to donate in this manner.
I was a CSM at at a large grocery chain here. Work at a grocery store and get a first hand look at the welfare fraud. Your head would explode. My favorites were the people here who owned their own little grocery stores in the poor black areas (yes,I 'll say it) they were all Arabian. The would come in and buy large quantities of items on sale, 25 boxes of cereal, cart loads of pop, 20 bags of chips, etc and pay for them with their Link card. Then go back to their grocery stores, stock their shelves, and jack up the price to sell back to the poor people also on welfare. Raping the system 2x. This went on all the time. I even called and reported it and nothing was ever done.
As far as being asked to donate while in line? I cut them right off and say "no thank you." I donate plenty but I do so at my own choosing.
Pat, cashiers are commonly rewarded for who can get the most donations from customers. That's probably what this little twit was doing. Trying to come in first place on your dime. Call and demand your money back. Tell them she was deceitful in getting that donation. If they refuse, steal something worth 10 bucks from the store. (joking)
Is this the same store where the old fart always calls you "honey, sweetie, sugar" etc?
Yeah, it's not like I love where I have a choice of where to shop.
