Mary-Louise Parker at the screening of "Red", and it doesn't matter if you love her or not, you have to admit she has one of the nicest figures in Hollywood. But, what happened to panty hose (or any hose)? Why the fuck did hose go out of style? When did it happen and why are all these ladies intent on looking veiny footed and knobby kneed? I just can not understand this trend. They refuse hose yet glue and pin those ridiculous Cocker Spaniel curls on their heads constantly. I just can...not...stand it!!!!

I had been thinking about the same thing after watching the reunion show of the Housewives of NJ. That clued me into the fact that women just weren't wearing hose of any kind all of a sudden in pictures I was seeing. It looks terrible. Every bump, every scratch, every knob stands out, and some of these are not young women. How is it that this looks better?
Baffles me. Hose have been our secret weapon for ages and now everyone is bare legged. And it's FUG!
i think it happened in the 80s or 70s even....but a nice outfit looks better if hose are wore....
Oh, this is just fashion today...it will swing back.
I can't wait till any kind of fuller hair comes back...not everyone looks good in straight hair and a flat top! (especially me!) I still have to get as much body going as I can and not look totally outdated.
And blazers that cover my bum...I could go on forever! I think I like the classic styles the best. Fashion today is color blind and sloppy to me. It looks cutest on the teens.
Ok, i bought a nice dress, not cheap for my daughters wedding this coming Sunday, 10-10-10. I have open toe silver/gray heels to wear with it. She told me I cant wear hose! Cuz the ugly toe thing will show. So, me & my 53 year old legs have to go w/o hose, in October? I know hose look bad when the toes are showing, thats about all I agree with. I guess I will have to can-tan my legs a few times & try it that way. But really, it does look ugly when your toes show, even if it is just a seam. But in a regular closed toe hell, I like them still but it can look dated anymore. I meant to write heel back there but hell is well suited. & pantyhose are from hell too! They roll on ya! They cut off your oxygen and make my stomach hurt. I hate them. I rembr taking 2 pair of hose many time, 1 each had a bad leg and cutting off the bad leg & wearing both pairs so I would have 1 pair of pantyhose. Gawd, how lame! & uncomfortable! Yuck. Nobody wears them anymore. It always bothered me when I'd see Katie Couric in pointy heels on The Today Show w/o hose on, but everybody does that. You need great firm shapely legs to pull it off.

If I do wear a dress, once in a blue moon, I will wear hose. I will confess a secret though. I didn't wear pantyhose under my wedding dress. I wanted to be comfortable, and hose always seem to roll down on me. Nobody knew, I also don't wear heels, so flats for me. Although I went shoeless for most of the reception.
I don't wear a dress/skirt unless I can wear black opaque tights. Thank goodness fall is here!
I'm too pale and bruise too easily to go with nude legs--plus it fugs up your feet to not wear hosiery, I get blisters.
No one wears slips anymore either...guess I'm old, but that's how I was raised. I hate seeing women wear unlined dresses without slips, seeing a pantyline on a woman wearing a skirt or worse...has anyone seen a woman with her skirt caught in her asscrack??? Wouldn't happen if you wore a slip.
Do you remember back in the day when a woman would come out of the bathroom with her skirt tucked into her hose?

I noticed the no hose look back when Katie Couric was still on Today and I used her as an example in my office to loosen up on the panyhose dress code. I was a hero with all the ladies in my office when management said ok. I haven't bought a pair in at least 7 years. Just used self tanning lotion to smooth things out.
I HATE pantyhose. Maybe it's because I'm of the "younger" generation but I refuse to wear them. They are uncomfortable and itchy, they cut off my circulation and look unnatural to me. And the toe seam?! Ugh.
I'd rather have my pasty legs out there for all to see than be worried about not getting a run in my stocking. I poke holes in everything, even my leggings.
Rox, you should be able to find hose without a toe seam, they are made especially to be worn with open toed shoes

I have a few pairs of pantyhose left. I wear them occasionally under nice pants as they kind-of smooth things out. When I worked in downtown Portland, I hated them, as they would creep down my legs until the crotch was hanging between my knees.
These days, I like to wear longer skirts or dresses when I do wear something other than long pants. I find that knee-high, sandal foot nylons work just fine.
Occasionally I go hoseless, too. In the summer I wear fancy flip flops with long dresses, to church. It's very comfortable, and since there is little skin showing, it doesn't look uneven or veiny, etc.
I used to love slips. They were a very elegant little piece of my wardrobe. I loved having different colors, and elaborate lace. I hadn't thought about that in a long time. . .
hose? my skin CRAWLS just at the thought of wearing them! can't even put them on the feeling of my legs completely encased in them completely grosses me out!!!
Oh mighty pantyhose! How I love thee.
Wearing pantyhose under a nice dress make me feel sexy.
