Hi ya, neighbor

Flavor Flav just opened his own restaurant. It's in Clinton, Iowa. I have no idea why, but, I'm pretty sure Clinton is, at this moment, printing a big sign that says, "Welcome to Clinton, we now have a black person." If only they could attract a gay couple, they'd have it all.

clinton is the hellhole i am from....there were very few blacks there when i was growing up, but i have to say i never really heard anything racists about blacks until i came to ohio....

OMG, I had forgotten that. It's pretty small, isn't it? Any idea what Flav's tie to Clinton is?

I was kidding about racisim. I think Iowa is more progressive than a lot of places, but, black people just don't live in these small towns.

i think clinton has about like 25,000 people or so....apparently his business partner whom he met in las vegas if from clinton, that's how he ended up opening his first place in clinton...

yeah, i really never encountered racism towards blacks til i got to ohio....but we had very few blacks in town...there was about maybe a dozen or so black families in town and they all lived basically on the same street....

now in dubuque iowa in the 80s, which is about 30 minutes north of clinton, there was a HUGE uproar when the city tried to bring black families from the chicago area to dubuque....as dubuque was lily white...HUGE uproar....they brought 10 black families to dubuque and all but one family left....they were burning crosses in front yards...it was HORRIBLE....couldn't understand that at all...but dubuque is a different entity....

but yeah....not many blacks in clinton....one black family was one of the wealthiest in town because they owned the only trash company.....i am sure there are more black families there now....

and IOWA has made gay marriage legal....california could not make it legal but IOWA did....that still rather shocks me....

And I live across the river from Dubuque and I can tell you one thing, it's not lily white anymore, not by a long shot.

i know it's not now....do you remember that back in the 80s Angie??

i can't remember the year....around 85/86 or so....i am pretty sure i was still in high school....

But doesn't Iowa have a new law legalizing gay marriage? Thats pretty far ahead of most other states. Esp Cali. & You would think of all places, Cali would be have made that legal. Its shocking really. Jerry Brown will get that thru! Deja-Vu, him govenor! Again!! LOL

Flav clocks in the kiddie meals? Maybe he can teach kids how to tell time on an actual clock? Instead of reading it on their phones or digital styles. That would be kinda cool. Maybe the chicken farm is in Iowa? Saves him tons of cash not to ship all his chickens across state lines, and paying the transport taxes? Ya think?

The cross burnings were in 1989 or 1990, I think. It got nationwide attention, but things settled down pretty quickly. They just had a stabbing over there in 2007, white kid by a couple of black kids, that caused things to flare up again, but I'm telling you, when you're downtown, white is the minority these days.

ah, i was out of high school then....thought i was in high school.....that was seriously fucked up though and i know it got national attention....

Tia, I am so ridiculously proud to live in a state where same sex marriage is legal. We aren't the hicks people make us out to be. I love that.

i think that is awesome about iowa....one of the FEW 'good' things about the state.....you, jenny bigwood (best friend from high school), and um, legal gay marriage....oh and slipknot....yep....that about sums up the good of iowa to me!

oh and awesome sweet corn!

Didn't Roseanne and Tom Arnold open a restaurant in Iowa also?

Iowa has gay marriage, it ain't that backwards.

I still cannot believe gay marriage is legal in Iowa but not California or New York. That blows my mind!

I don't mind Flav, he is kind of funny. I've never watched any of his shows regularly but I have seen snippets. I had to laugh at one where he was nervous about talking to his date so he kept eating cookies. I would do the same thing, ha ha.

That's just what we all need, another fried chicken place. I wonder if any of these people ever thought of a real soul food or a real Jamaican food place. I know there would be a lot of stuff on the menu(chitterlings)that some people would not eat, but there would also be stuff most would. A good pot of greens and ham hocks, cracklin cornbread, candied sweet potatoes and Jamaican food that I have eaten but really couldn't tell you the names of, but would love to be able to eat some more!!! OMG, I've made myself drool!
