Sucks shit

I read the artsy fartsy sections of every online bullshit rag just because. Because I think and hope that something will strike my fancy. Once in awhile it does and I get caught up in some obscure street artist or underground band. Not today. I read THIS and I listened to everything linked and mentioned, expecting to be wooed. Fuck. I must be in the old fart stage because most of todays "hot" music is like a pencil in my ear. I hated it all.
*
I thought about titling this post "shitty music for crabbie" but, he actually posts something I like once every two years. But, what the fuck do I know? I like punk rock and Motown. My favorite bands are Nirvana and The Dead Milkmen and my favorite song is "Midnight Train To Georgia." I like GaGa and Taylor Momson. So..I'm leaving it up to you. Tell me something to fucking listen to! And tell me..do you like any of that shit mentioned in that article or is there something wrong with me? I can't believe I wasted time listening to all that.

My sons band is growing on me and they are now getting radio play in Indy. So, somebody thinks they are ok too. I am going to their next show and am hoping for a huge crowd. This is actually exciting for them. My son plays all the instruments on every song. Its pretty amazing. But I am old too and have to hear it more than once. Our parents said the same shit about The Beatles and The Beach Boys. Altho, I do still have my g'parents LP of The Rip Cords! Little Duece Coup! Fab song!

Rox, have you got a link to your son's band?

The best part is the kids are listening to MY music, and then thinking it's from their generation.
NOT - I love to point out that the best 'Rock' was my era and the song they are listening to is actually an original or a remake from the 60's or 70's.

That's so cool about your son Rox!

franz ferdinand is awesome! i can put all their stuff on a disc for you and send it to you if you want, i've d/l-ed all their stuff!

Pat, I do. But it's Industrial Metal. Its very different. You either like it or you really hate it. My fav song is "Helix", and coicidentally, thats the song they are playing on the X now. I swear it could be a song in "Queen of The Damned". An amazing beyond crazy movie. Gawd, we love that movie at my house. The music in that movie is totally SICK! So, think of that and it will kinda give you an idea of my sons sound. He is not the vocalist, just plays all the music. On stage, he plays the keyboard and his guitar. He's badass. They have a guy that does all the lights in sync with the songs and their shows are really getting known as a great stage show, a band you must see live. My son just got his old job tho, here at my work. He is installing heating & cooling equipment. LOL! He still has to bills to pay. I hope someday he can do something great & go far. It may be alone or with the guys, but he can play the shit out of a guitar & keyboard. I will send you the link in an email. I don't expect you to like it. You will probably even hate it. But they are young and with time & a better studio next time, I think they can be a serious player. Sorry, I am kinda proud tho! They just got radio play on Sunday night and they got to tape a commercial to promo their next show. Its kinda cool. Its for a guy in a band, he has a brain injury and the show is to raise money so he can get the operation he needs, but has no money. Its a benefit show. Some really great guys playing that night to help out their friend. Including my son & his band.

I liked the music in Queen of The Damned. It was sexy. My son had a metal band, in one of his stages. I like some of it. Who doesn't like Metallica? Only crazy people. I also listen to 9 Inch Nails and Motorhead when I'm in a mood.

Dirty Disher said...

One of my top five songs I can't live without is Two Feet Off The Ground by the Dead Milkmen. Anyone ever heard of it?

miss tia said...

my hand is raised for being a crazy people! i only like one metalica song 'seek & destroy'....never liked metallica other than that song....

saw motorhead in concert back in the early 90s when they toured with judas priest, alice cooper, metal church and dangerous toys....motorhead came out on stage and lemmy said "i'm lemmy let's rock"....they were the 3rd act....cooper headlined....the lead singer of judas priest came out on stage on a motorcycle....great concert!

9 inch nails always cracks me up cuz he dated a guy i was dating's sister when he first signed his record contract and he bought a sports car and made a big deal and it was a toyota miata!!! OMG my bf and i laughed and laughed and he got soooooo fucking pissed "you're gonna wish you knew me"....hahahahahahaha....then he made it big and my bf, then ex, was at one of his shows and trent saw him in the pit and had him kicked out! HAH!

a few years later i saw a little red miata with a NIN sticker on the back and was laughing to hard i had to pull over....

Right now I have fallen in love with Kirsty MacColl. She died back in the 90's in a boating accident. She remade The Kinks "Days".Its beyond fabulous. I even told my daughter to save it and play it for my friends when I am gone. I actually have a list, and I keep adding to it and sending her the msg's on FB. Just to save. We have never actually spoken about it. But I know she gets my updates. If you wanna hear this amazing woman sing , here's the fabulous link to her gorgeous voice.

Progressive Rock: auralmoon.com. My husband introduced me to Prog when I met him.

But Prog is a genre you either love or hate so I won't make any promises.

I rarely listen to mainstream music anymore....since I started bellydancing my music choices have broadened, and I listen to anything from Eastern European, Balkan beats, to any fusion in between, to my beloved Spanish Rock from the 80's and 90's and Classic Rock and Prog. And PANDORA is my best friend.

Kirsty MacColl saved her son when they were in the water and she shoved him out of harms way, when a boat was speeding at a hi rate towards them & she was killed instantly. Both her sons survived. The boat was driven by some Saudi prince. There has yet to be justice for her. Just a very small fine was paid for the boat being in a restricted area. of course.

Also I can't leave out the Spanish oldies, such as boleros and mambos. Classic stuff anywhere south of the US.

I liked her remakes. I like the Kinks too.

DD here is one for you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3J_chod0eM

its nin vs the beatles really good.

Rox: It was jonathan davis ( Korn) who did the whole queen of the damned soundtrack. He did a fab job. I love that soundtrack.

Unknown said...

OH DD you HAVE to look up Rodrigo y Gabriela. Those two can play classic guitar like nobody's business.

Meissa-Is the music in So.America or Central America, different from music in Mexico? I am guessing its different but the same. Which do you prefer? Or the real stuff, from Spain?
Once in Monterrey, MX we were in a bar and met this guy that was pilot for an American millionaire. He woundt say who, but we think we figured it out later. But Monterrey is pretty cool, but now its all about the drug wars and murders daily. Tourists are NOT safe there anymore. We loved it there. We actually drove all the way from Corpus to Monterrey. LOL! Crazy roads!

Tia...greaaat story! I loved it! Damn straight he wished he knew him! Wow! Well, a guy has to start somewhere, but a Miata is not cool, so thats a good one! LOL! A Jeep Wrangler is way cooler, something kinda northwest style at least! Good one. Ever see the ex around? You could laugh at him and the pit-exit! LOL

miss tia said...

no, the ex is in atlanta now i believe, but i tell you what, i wouldn't laugh at him for that....trent was a total dick how he acted all puffed up about that goddamn miata! fuck him....i do like his debut album though....

but yeah....i drank a few beers with trent before he was famous and laughed at his taste in 'sports cars'....HAH! :D

Rox, if you are looking at regional music then yes it's different from country to country. Although, modern Spanish Rock (or Latin Rock to be more specific) is heavily influenced by the culture and folklore of each country, and that's what makes each band unique.

For example, in Argentina the European influence is very notorious, and their Rock is influenced greatly by punk. Their best example is Soda Stereo (one of my all time favorites, they were HUGE in the 80's and 90's, it has become a cult band). Their early sound reminds me of early Police. Like this song (check out the hair!):

Soda in Vina del Mar '87:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwmAQCrzVLA

Post-80's Soda on MTV Unplugged:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MgEP9eoQTU

Other singer/songwriters whose music is greatly influenced by their culture are Juanes and Cabas, both from Colombia.

Juanes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6x5jS2-uKGo

Cabas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qeg-9n_w0CI

An example (or three) of Mexican rock bands, all completely different styles:

Cafe Tacuba:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEfaxwK3mn4

Caifanes:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GszmaWV8Mp8

Mana:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wemr4CsJoaU

And the best example of Spanish (from Spain), Mecano:

Yes they are all classified within the Latin rock genre. I hope that helps!

Jools Holland is worth googling as well . . . he hosts a kind of variety hour showcasing different contemporary artists. He plays keyboards in the video of Beverley Knight above. Enjoy!

If you're a Prog Rock lover, Porcupine Tree can't be beat. THEY'RE AMAZING (a bit of a cross between very early Genesis and Pink Floyd). LOVE them!!!

Unknown said...

HELL YEAH I looove Porcupine Tree! And if you are a prog lover, you HAVE to have Aural Moon in your bookmarks!

My husband and I want to go to Rosfest this year....one of my favs, Daemonia is playing. But I doubt we'll co cause we're broke :(

Unknown said...

OK now that I'm home I watched the videos....well I got down to "Portlandia" (about life in Portland, OR) and stopped. I don't think I can take it anymore. I was never into REM, yuck. Calle 13 I know, but I'm not into their style, another yuck.

The music most all of you listen to is stinking manure. You deserve human extinction that's straight up ahead. The music you listen to reflects your depraved evil spirits. Truly, you all belong in a sewer. Pathetic.

Bayou Jane said...

Thanks Meissa...I listened to several of the sites you listed and really enjoyed them. I know I never would have found these on my own. I hate to make statements on music because there is so much of the "new" stuff that I don't like, and saying that makes me sound so old. I like music (anything from classical to heavy, heavy metal) and it's hard to find real music in some of the things that are being put out today. (And am I the only one to think that so much of what is out now sounds exactly alike?) I guess maybe I am getting old! And, by the way Meissa, there are a couple of "little boys" in Cabas that are very easy on the eyes. Again, thanks for the sites, (they make me want to dance) and I'm glad you like your classes. I have taken courses (and enjoyed them) since I graduated, but they were classes I WANTED to take and not HAD to.

I'm sorry for running on. I have a very bad headache and the meds are making me ramble!

So anon, is Patsy Cline and Dean Martin ok with you?

Bayou Jane said...

Escrow...I like Patsy Cline---I really do. But, I understand what you are saying to anon. You have to remember, you are dealing with someone that does a 180 on anything anyone says. It's a personality trait of someone who has no personality and I really think the best thing would be to ignore it and not fall into its' trap!

Unknown said...

mmmmmm.....Tia I might open me a twitter account. I think I just might, wink wink!

Anonymous said...

But anon...you are a guest in our "sewer". You really seem to enjoy and love it here. I notice you always say harsh things but keep coming back. You are like the mean kid at school that is just pissed because he isn't "in" the crowd, he has no friends, so he is mean. He pushes people away 1st, before they have the chance to. Thats who you are, and thats on you. You wanna "play" with us but you are being mean and keeping people away. It's very childish. Think about what you are doing? Its not even what you are saying to us, its that you are even saying anything, at all. You are so transparent. Find some friends and stalk them. We have friends. You don't. & you are MAD! End of story.

miss tia said...

well said rox!

anon loves us! s/he can't get enough! it's flattering, really! but anon, we are seeing someone. sorry.
we have another stalker that we are pretty serious about. so it's not you, it's us.
but we can still be friends, ok?
take care now.

I really did not like the new Deadmau5 CD at all. I was really psyched for it because I really like this song he does called "Ghosts n Stuff", which I put on the Halloween mix tape on my site. And "Robot Rock" is tolerable...I usually don't change it when my mp3 player is on Shuffle, but it's my least favorite Daft Punk song. I tend to like electronic stuff sometimes, though. I can't stand Gaga. I don't know...I really liked "Just Dance" but they just run her into the ground on the radio.

@miss tia: You are right about Franz Ferdinand! I talked to them briefly in 2007 and got to play with their kids in the sandbox. DD I don't know what to tell you about discovering new music, but I do have my free mix tape every month and link to free mp3s all the time! I can't vouch for all the mp3s but I know at least the mix tapes are songs I like, maybe you will too.

Jessica said...

@Miss Tia I didn't mean that like "ladida I got to talk to them", I meant it like "that was a pretty nifty thing that happened". :)
