I just went to pick up a prescription and I couldn't hear a damn thing the lady ask me. Now, I realize I have a hearing problem. I have hyper-hearing with constant noise in my ears and it's compounded in public places..but, the real problem was, this woman was playing Dancing Queen on a loop through the pharmacy speakers. After asking her to repeat things several times, I said, "Sorry, all I can hear is ABBA." She grinned and said, "Yeah, isn't it great? The good stuff we grew up to!" Umm, I don't know where you grew up lady, but, I'd rather have suffered an aneurysm than listen to ABBA in MY youth. I said, "Got any Marilyn Manson?" That stopped her in her tracks. Music is subjective and just because I'm in my 50's does not mean that I ever listened to ABBA. She reminded me of my neighbors across the street who, every time they're outside, have to blast me with country music and smile and wink like we're sharing an obsession. I do not like neo-country music and never will. I put it in the same category as ABBA, which is un-listenable clap trap.
My real question and complaint is..why does there have to be piped in music everywhere I shop? Why can't you just shop in quiet anymore? It's annoying and painful to me and not just because it's not my personal genre of taste. I can't be the only one who's sick and tired of it.

And fuck ABBA.
i like abba....but i don't like music blasting in stores....stores that have background music i can, fortunately, tune out....
i posted all my vids from my concert on my LJ....the animals, spinners, the rascals and america! great show i went too saturday!! :D
The grocery was playing the Baby Animals the other day. I love them and hadn't heard them in forever, but, the speakers are in the dairy aisle. It was so loud there I almost vomited from the noise asault.
not baby animals anymore! least he doesn't try to do the comb over or the spray on hair like some older bands do...eric burdon had white hair and he sounded fantastic! he had a stand with lyric sheets though...you'd think singing those songs for almost 50 years, he'd be able to sing them in his sleep! he jsut referred to it a couple times....but still....
america was awesome! i was most excited to see them!
America is sweetly nostalgic for me. Horse With No Name had two chords. TWO. It's great for begginer guitar players, they can play a whole song instantly.
that's what they closed with!! i video'd their whole show.... :D scofflaw that i am!
Ugh! just reading this post I now have that damn chorus over and over in my head.
WHAT THE FUCK are they wearing? Too scary for Halloween. :)
But, it feels good to be out of the rain, huu? LOL
What's even worse is being put on hold and forced to listen to loud, really bad music with commercials thrown in every 30 seconds. Comcast is great for doing this. I swear they do it so people hang up.
We went out to a Mexican restaurant last week and couldn't even hear each other talk the music was so loud. It was that (what I call) Mexican polka music. We couldn't wait to leave.
I know you hate Walmart, but we shut the music off a couple of years ago.
Whoa, nice shoes, Benny...or Bjorn. I can't get them straight.
I like ABBA but they give me nostalgic blues like Gordon Lightfoot's early stuff does.
The music was SO loud in Old Navy the other day we had to scream over it. Fucking lady gaga... *gag*
