The house the Prince built

HERE's an article about Prince Charles's green eco home. It's heated with wood and inuslated with hemp and sheep's wool. Charles loves all that eco friendly green stuff and he preaches it. The problem is, he doesn't live there, he's a Prince, he lives in assorted castles and his mum is the freekin' Queen. So, all he gets is grief for his efforts. I've always thought of him as a quiet nerd type who loves to read and talk to his plants. It's not his fault he was born into royalty and isolated from reality. No more than it's my fault I was raised by Wolves. The house is cozy and what he says about eco living makes sense, but, no one will listen. Charles: ''It's about designing in such a way that you don't need lots of accoutrements."

Yeah, well, that's easy to say when you live in castles with servants at your beck and call. The dude has probably never put on his own underpants, let alone washed them. I like how cost isn't a factor at all, it isn't even mentioned. Why bother? Money is so tedious.

Well when you have nothing else to do but work on pet projects this is a good one. The place is cute and quaint. How eco-friendly is it when no one is using it? He seems like such a geeky bore. Couldn't be any other way I guess.

When the Prince and Camilla visited Canada a year or two ago, they visited the teaching winery in Niagara of the Lake. (about 20 min. from my house) They planned for the prince to go out into the fields and look at the set-up. He does have a very large knowledge of agriculture, and has a large working farm at home. It was pouring down rain the day they visited and the school offered to cancel the tour or put carpets down for him. He said no and off he went to the middle of the muddy field with his wingtips on. Of course he didn't have to clean them afterwards. Or maybe they just got tossed.

On this tour my sister went to see them at Dundurn Castle in Hamilton Ontario. Camilla's long ago great grandfather built it. They handed out these ribbons for the crowd to wear on their coats. Prince Charles got out of the car for a walkabout and went right over to my sister, pointed at her ribbon and said "they have you well tagged don't they." My sister was speechless of course.

Twinner, good story!
DD, I had to read that article. I absolutely LOVE that house. I love the idea too. No, he won't live in it, but he's a prince. They don't expect royalty to live like commoners. So putting aside who designed it, I have to say that I'm in love. I adore the idea of living simply and did you see that they said that house could even run without central heat? Wow! Has anyone ever seen the tiny houses that are becoming popular? I want one of those so badly. There's even one you can haul around with a truck!

he is supposedly a very funny man, just not aloud to be himself I suppose. I like that his kids are more "normal".

His farm also produce food that is sold in supermarkets over here, the dutchey range, really good food & reasonable price. He created jobs in an area of the Uk with a very low employment rate.

His involvement has in all things eco freindly is long standing, much longer than it has been fashionable. he was once mocked for his views but now people are seeing the sense in it
