Janice Mason with her husband Dave, who have been told the justice system can do little to help them after their house was taken over by squatters, are two of many who feel abandoned by the system. HERE is the article.I don't understand the squatter problem that British people have to deal with. Every single day I read about a new case. It seems, over there, anyone can move into your home and take it over and no one can do a thing about it. Usually it's an empty home, but, many times it's just someone on vacation who's home is invaded. It seems like you can go to the store for bread and milk and come back and find a family of theives living in your house. And your screwed. They change the locks, ruin your furniture, sell your electronics, run up your phone bill and don't even mow the lawn. It takes months and a lot of money to get these creeps out of your home. Can someone please explain wtf is going on over there???

i've been reading those same articles too!! from what i can gleam basically it's not over here where you call the cops and they'd arrest them for trespassing, breaking & entering, etc.....(common sense, right??).....
in some of the cases, people moving in 'claim' they were rented the property by an agent (who of course never materializes) and the court says that on the basis of that, they have RIGHTS and must be heard....that's what lets them continue staying in the property for months while the courts take forever.....
now in vacant homes, there is a law that if you squat long enough without notice you can actually become the owner of the property....that's what some squatters try to achieve with squatters with vacant properties....but if they are caught, again, they aren't immediately removed, the courts take their time 'to sort things out'....
quite maddening and i'm waiting for one of those owners to go all ghetto on the squatters' ass!
over here in australia you go visit them with a cricket bat. no squatters.....
I believe the people in Texas has a way to deal with that problem. If they are in your house, you can shoot them.
Do any British people have guns?
i think just the hunters....they have more knife violence than gun violence....
