Get outta my face, lady

You have to read THIS and watch the vid on there. The dog is an 89 pound Mastif who had been rescued when he fell through some ice. The station wanted to do a feel good story and reunite him with his rescuer. The lady reporter just looooooooves dogs. She was petting the dog rather aggressively, if you ask me...constantly stroking his head and even his face firmly. Then for some reason I can't understand, she bent over and went to kiss the dog on the face. So, the dog did what dogs do.

Remember, the dog has had the ice rescue trauma, he's surrounded by strangers, there are big cameras aimed at him, strange sounds and smells..you get the picture. I can't, for the life of me, see where he bit her. But, they say she had to go to the hospital and the dog is now locked up. The only funny part is that the owner is being fined for no vaccinations and having the dog off leash. No one checked those facts before bringing the dog in for a cuddle on camera? Geez Louise. Sorry, but, it didn't look like an attack to me. It looked like a confused dog gave a warning snap and maybe caught her nose with his top teeth. Unfortunate, but, who kisses a strange dog in the face? A little common sense goes a long way and there's no way I'd be mad at the dog over that incident. I'd just feel stupid. What do you think?

Anyone familiar with that face snap? I am. I had two big dogs that did that to any stranger dumb enough to walk into their fenced area. They never made contact, just SNAP right at the face. Pants shitting. LOL. I'd warn the fuckers.

You are positively correct on all accounts and now this poor dog is traumatized again by being locked up, after enduring a plunge through the ice.
People are SO stupid, and often insensitive to the behavior of animals. No one wants anyone RIGHT IN THEIR FACE, especially in anxious and unfamiliar environments.
Fine the reporter for stupidity and please let the dog be reunited with his people.
I deal with a lot of "air snaps" at the shelter, often when a dog is nervous, anxious, or excited and someone gets too close to their face or personal space.

I worry about my daughter working with big strange dogs, but, she was raised in a freekin' zoo. LOL.

There are tuned-in people with intelligence, and then there are idiots like this self-contained reporter. Since she IS YOUR daughter, I know she is of the the tuned-in variety, thus, I bet she rocks around the big dogs. I love her for helping them! I think kids who grow up in a houseful of pets learn compassion and awareness so here's to your "freakin' zoo." ((Round of applause.))

Dogs, cats, horses, skunks, badgers, raccoons, owls, qauil, parrots, ferrets, iguanas, rats, snakes, ducks, goats, geese, peacocks, chickens, guineas, rabbits and who can remember what else...lol. And every one was someone else's problem that we ended up with. I think it made us better people.

Forgot squirrels. And one old bear. LMAO! We really are a strange family.

I would join your 'circus' any time. When you get the gumption and that slippery devil Time, please finish your book about your astounding life.

I saw instant epic film when I read your chapters online.

A BEAR, for krissakes. Yes, a bear ....

i bet this report would also try and pet a dog while in a parked car. like the saying goes "common sense isn't too common these days" i wonder if this counts as "facetime" in her profession.

Ditto's for Mary_Mary. I've read "I hit Harry as hard as I could with the skillet" Nearly every day since the end of 2010, looking to see if you had posted more!

Sharkey...you are so right about common sense. When it comes to animals, you ask permission, you offer your hand for a smell and you pet if allowed. Never stick your face in an animals face. It is seen as aggression by most animals. But it did look to me like he enjoyed being petted. But his qwner was petting at the same time. Don't blame the dog on human stupidity.

DD...I can see taking in all the animals ----but a bear?

And the face thing, I have a cat that does the same thing. And he means business when he bites.

She asked for that one. Who does that?!? I'm afraid of dogs now so would never think of doing that but even when I was not, I know enough to not thrust my face in theirs, especially if the dog is between the owner and me. Stupid cow. And no offense to cows, I love cows.

That poor dog -- he must not have known what was going on and still recovering from his ordeal.

DD, what's with the bear story????

If you saw a big old gentle black bear being kept in a 6x6 foot cafe of his own feces, you'd take him home too. Don't tell me you wouldn't.

Dirty Disher said...

ps..the dirty fuckers who had him, pulled all his top teeth out and he hadn't had company in years. I HAD to take him.

I hate cows, You can't trust a cow. Nope. Also I have to tell you, I don't believe in caging animals unless they're sick or something so..can you imagine what our little farm was like? I laugh when I think of it. Doggy doors for coons and badgers, great horned owls wandering in and out. and everybody had to get along or be gone. It really was a zoo. It was a happy place and I miss it.

I love you more, Ms. Doctor Doolittle.
Especially about giving that bear some love and respect. Oh, how I would have absolutely NO PROBLEM going vigilante and putting a bullet through the empty eyes of every animal abuser out there.

i would love to join you on that endeavor mary_mary!!!!

What's the matter with cows??!?!?! I know you don't trust horses but, cows? They always look so peaceful and mind their own business. Or at least that is how I view them!

That story about the bear made me feel ill. Why would anyone do that. I would have wanted to gouge those assholes' eyes out. I hope he managed to live a few happy years with you. Was it hard for him to eat without his top teeth? I can't imagine. I also would love to know how the "exchange" went. Did you "just" take him or did you have to talk with the scumbags to get them to release him?

Your zoo sounds amazing and just as it should be. Doggy doors for badgers and raccoons, that cracked me up. Where was this? I'm thinking not in the house you are currently living in.

Cows are sneaky. Horses are individuals, some good, some bad. I always had horses, I like horses.

Yeah, I had to be 'friends' with these hillbillys to get the bear. They had a ton of neglected abused animals. The bear was amusing until they felt threatened. Then they locked him in an open cage, sat it in a lonly pasture and left him there for over a decade. Until they showed him to me. He ate dry dogfood. He'd never had meat until I got him. He didn't have a mean or resentful bone in his body. He was a sweet old soul that died of old age shortly after I became his friend. I learned a lot from him, mostly about bad people. He died happy with company.

ps, no, not here. It was an isolated old farm I bought for $500 cash in Mo. I lived there for years alone and did as I damned pleased. There was no law, no neighbors, no real roads, lots of timber land..paradise.
