Alzheimer's Documentary: "You're Looking At Me Like I Live Here And I Don't"

I watched this last night on PBS and I was very taken with it. Her name is Lee and she has Alzheimer's. The whole documentary is a day in her life in the Alzheimer's home. It's very unique because it has no narration, no 'expert' discussions, no questions..it's just this fascinating old lady and what's left of her mind. Sometimes confused, sometimes sad and weeping, sometimes mean, sometimes dancing to her own tune. Lee makes no sense and yet she's unintentionally profound. If you get a chance to watch it, do.

If/when I find it, I will watch it. That stuff interests me. She looks like a compelling "subject".

How's your trip going, Lia? I read your husband's journey blog at first and then forgot about it until I just saw your name! I must catch up!

oh yes we are doing well, down to the last three weeks of our journey, just got back into thailand after laos and lapping up the luxury of soft beds and crisp white sheets. the blog seems to have been a bit neglected meanwhile!

That was reminding me too much of when I put my mother in the alzheimer's/ dememtia unit for the last 2.5 years of her life.

I am pretty sure this will be me in 20 years. Besides, how do we know they are losing their minds? Maybe we are the crazy ones? We don't know! Dr's say this and that. I don't know what's true anymore. I sometimes think people that are having a conversation with themselves aren't really alone at all. They are ahead of us. & we just don't get it. The realm they have entered is not for us to understand. So, it's frustrating because it's different. I dunno. I have mixed feelings about this.
