This is why I don't like the cats here. They lay in the bushes and wait for the little bats to swoop down eating mosquitos and then they jump out and knock them down. Did you know bats can't fly from the ground? No, they have to climb high and then drop to take flight. So, they are helpless and the cats then torture them. I tried to rescue this one, but, he bit the dust. Those cats are mean. They are fat and mean.

once my rescued cat dies. that will be it with cats...
Well, I feel the same abpout most of these. The old lady is attached to them, but, they're too destructive to be outdoors.
Last summer we had small tiny bats dropping like flies around our house. We don't own a cat. They were in such odd places, on top of the grill, in a lawn chair and just laying in the driveway. Strange places to just drop out of the sky. It was sad, we all know bats do good. At night sometimes just at dusk, you can see them flying and snacking. I always run inside when I see them tho. Do you think it's the heat? Or the climate being so fierce? You know, 2 weeks ago my son was going down the highway 55 mph, windows down, 5 a.m. and a damn crow flew right into his ear,HARD! He said he had bird blood all over him and he nearly wrecked. It rung his bell, he nearly puked and he felt ill all day at work. Then he got an ear infection over it. He said the bird had to have died, he pulled over to make sure it wasn't in his back seat. Crazy grackles!!! This summer is very strange, the animals can't take much more. It's beginning to cool down a bit here, finally. But back up into the 90's is coming tho.

I'll bet the heat didn't help them any. I love watching them swoop by the hundreds at sunset. WOOSH! I get a lawn chair out and watch them hunt. It's a pretty site.
Those Grackles are crazy. Your poor son. They attack people and pets here and they're loud. There are way too many of them. In a car like that, could do some damage. That's bizarre.
DD, I don't like bats at all but they do devour mosquitos. I reside in Texas and have been taught never to touch, play or handle a bat. Please be careful!
The only way they'd get rabies is from these cats and they've all had shots. Honestly, bats are just another critter to me. We all should leave wild animals alone, it's safer for both of us. But, I wanted to help it escape. I knew there was no unusual behavior by the bat.
Rox, the more I think about it, I think your bats were poisoned by someone spraying insecticide.
