I was hiding under the willow looking out..and peeking under the red stalked poke berries. It's like a different world under there. Almost like being underwater. A late clematis bloom. A stray plant saying thanks? Awful pic of a bird. I was watching two orioles eat sunflowers. I didn't know they could eat those big sunflowers, they are so tiny. Teeny tiny cute yellow birds. The cats got a hose spraying. Don't even look at me like that. Orioles are not on the dinner menu.

yeah, i got a late blooming clematis too! it bloomed this spring and doesn't usually bloom again!
Nice. This was one of those freebies. I didn't expect to see what color it was until next year. I like it.
Is that your pumpkin sneaking across the yard? Are you sure that's an oriole... looks like a gold finch to me. My orioles are more orange & about the size of a robin. The finches are tiny little birds.
Nice shady spot under the willow, that can be your hidey hole!
I'm going to ask what might be a stupid question, can you eat poke berries? I don't think we have anything like that around here. At least not that I'm aware of. If we do, they don't look that pretty.
not really...here's some info for you poke berries aka pokeweed....i mean they can be used, but you gotta know what you're doing....
No, they're poison. But, the leaves are edible if you boil and rinse them three times. It's called Poke Salit, or salad, like the song. Poke Salad Annie (gator's got yer granny). Birds can eat the berries, so I don't think they're all that toxic. They'd probably give you a bellyache is all.
Hell tomato and potato plants are poison too. Those and poke are all in the nightshade family. People have actually died from eathing wild potato plants. The leaves, not the actual potato.
CJ, that's a diff pumpkin. I snuck them in all over. I forget what kinds. I save seeds from ones I like. Some people start tomatos in spring. I've quit that. I get voulunteer tomatos. I need my punkins. :)
i've always wanted to grow 'deadly nightshade'....just to say i've got deadly nightshade....yeah, i'm weird....
It's gorgeous. Mom killed all ours this year after I made the mistake of telling her it's name. I'll gather wild seeds and get it going again. Do you want some?
I also have some Poison Hemlock witch is the prettiest green plant ever. It's like a big fern.
ooooo i would love some deadly nightshade!!!!
