Kid steals car. Kid wrecks car. Kid shuts down highway. Kid now has to have two surgeries because he disfigured himself. Quote from his mother: “I'm not downplaying my son's role in taking something that didn't belong to him, but I am saying they actually left their keys in the car and the vehicle could have been taken by anybody.”
She also thinks it's a shame police chased him because he could have just been taking a joy ride and none of this would have happened. Dear Load. This is the world we live in and the people we live with. This will be the kid from Dear Abby in ten years.

so basically her son is a special snowflake and it's the owner's fault for leaving their keys in the vehicle, the police's fault for chasing him and how dare anyone judge her very special snowflake....and she tries to cover it up by not downplaying her son's role....bullshit....
Exactly. I'd never judge someone on what their boy did. Teen boys are impulsive and lack that shut off valve in the brain. But, blaming it on anyone else is irresponsible and teaches the kid to do it again.
Not saying all, but too many kids today are not taught to respect the belongings of other people. "it's just sitting there, nobody's using it, so what's the big deal". Wrong! No one gifted it to you, you didn't pay for it ... keep your grubby mits off it.
Teen boys might be impulsive, but if they were taught respect from the beginning, they would never consider doing something like that.
Sh**. Circa 1999. My bosses son, got his DL, took his g'pas very fancy, brand new custom van for a joy ride that day, on a gravel road, with his buddy. Lost it, flipped it, rolled it, totaled it and walked away. G'pa was pissed! All within 45 minutes of getting his DL. Boys drive crazy! Some girls do too. It's lack of experience and I think, daring death to cross their paths.

Fuck your snowflake, lady. Now pay up.
LOL! Damn straight. And that kid would be mowing lawns for a LONG time.
Don't forget to clean out the rain gutters and the storm drains, Snowy.
I like "special snowflake." I can only hope she's trying to shift accountability off her son in a bid to move it off her being financially responsible for the mess he caused...because she's full of it. His choices created the disaster.
People suck. I can't even understand if she REALLY believes her garbage or if she's just blame shifting.
I think the hospital should make him work there helping people in addition to mowing lawns for the next 15 years.

He's just going to get a bunch of get well cards with money and do it all again.
