Fond goodbye, Helen Gurley Brown

Helen Gurley Brown has passed away. The legendary editor of Cosmopolitan magazine and author of Sex And The Single Girl was 90. Can you imagine a single girl told that it's okay to have sex back in 1962? Wow. I believe she was also intrumental in bringing us the first nude male centerfold and it was Burt Reynolds. Who wasn't half bad back then. Helen was an interesting woman who led an interesting life. Rest in peace, Ms. Brown. I had to add Helen in her 1969 mod dress. Too cute.

I had no idea she was 90! Good for her! I LOVED this woman. She was amazing. I subscribed to Cosmo for a few years just because she was such a cool lady. She just said what she felt and she never backed down. She was put down and ridiculed but she had the last laugh! Lovely, beautiful, intelligent, sexy lady. Intimidated much Sir? Yea, they were, indeed! She loved how intimidated they were. She was so great. RIP HGB!

She told us we could have it all. I remember it being a shock.

She was quite scandalous back then. I totally remember her being naughty. She just changed everything for women. We all owe her something for doing that. She was a pioneer. Can you imagine? She probably was thinking "Why hasn't anybody said something?!" So she did. Sex was no secret, everybody was doing it. She just pulled the curtain back! She always got my attention.

Yep. Gloria Steinem taught us about women's rights, but, Helen was more practical. She knew we liked men and admitted we want to please them.

I read my first Cosmo when I was about 13. Someone left a copy hidden in an upstairs closet in our family mountain cabin. I hid it and took it home with me. I was shocked and enthralled! Bought it for years with my babysitting money. Thank you Helen!

Remember the Cosmo quizzes? LOL, we used to take those and it was girly fun.

My friends and I would take my mom's Cosmo magazines to do the quizzes (although we didn't understand half the questions until a few years later when we hit our teens) and we loved the big issue with the year ahead horoscope booklet. "Which sign is your most sexually compatible mate?"
I came to respect and admire her as I got older. She spoke fair but firm; she made sense. She was witty! And yah, she had a great wardrobe. She WAS Cosmo.

Oh, yes, finding your perfect mate was important. Little did I know. Sigh.

I think we all had a few dick-slap mates here and there. Haha
