OMG! Look at that house! It's all done in retro yummy! I love it, I love the orange wall. That's the color I always meant to paint in here (my kitchen) and never got around to it. It's so flattering, isn't it? That's an Eames style chair, isn't it? Who is that coffee table by? That's amazing. I spy tiki pottery and a sunburst! Look at that standing lamp with the whip stitching! You have the most interesting style! And your photos are so cute I can't hardly stand it. Thank you for sharing, Mary. You are so adorable!

Sooo darling! My daughter bought a retro sofa at Goodwill a few years ago, its 7 ft long, small cushions across the back and those peg legs. Its in some kind of tweedy beige fabric. She loves it. It looks new. Her friends thot cost her $900. It cost her $45! LOL. It looks like its from the 60's. Her favorite sofa. Its in her "pretty" room, away from everyday use. So, we totally love this stuff too. Sometimes it's pretty cheap. I would love some vinyl kitchen table chairs, the kind that were shiny and matched the laminate on the kitchen table. Remember those sets? Very cool 60's chic. We all had them. But where are they now? You don't see them around. This is all too cute!!! She totally matches her house and cute kitty too!

& the speckled Melamine dishes we used to eat off of! Everybody had them too. But you can't microwave them! They burn up. Turqoise & orange, thats what we had. & those delicious shiny aluminum tumblers in jewel colors! Something just tasted so much better & colder from them! Awww, my childhood!

I love those alum tables and chairs too. You can still find them here once in awile, but, I have a table. An old duncan fife that's useful. I should put a pic on. I want to paint it, but, someone heard me say that and about fainted. LOL.
I spy a lighter and an ashtray! Yes! Yeah, those melomacs won't micro. I found that out. LOL. I like my corel, it will and it's light. Unlike my Ray Jane wear.
Yea, bath mats on the couch! IKEA!
I remember the melamine ashtrays, gawd, it all matched didn't it? But we had every piece imaginable. I'd die for it now. But the ashtrays stained and would get permanent burn marks in them. That stuff would burn, they never figured that out, but didn't they stop making it for safety reasons?

very VERY! nice
mary_mary is totally adorable and lives a retrofab life!
Thank you everyone! Rox, your daughter's sofa sounds awesome; the size and the shape and the hairpin legs and frissé material. What a find! You can still find the kitchenettes, mostly at flea markets and estate sales. All of my stuff and clothing was found at flea markets, swap meets and even the trash! I am not too proud to dumpster dive if there is a 50's gem in there! Anyone want to come with me?
Thanks for noticing one of my little kitties tucked there on the sofa. He is a rescue, a chubby Siamese named Charlie Chan.
I once had a roommate that totally destroyed some Melmac by putting it in the microwave. The tiny legs on the bowls melted and everything was misshapen. She put them back int he cupboard and pretended nothing happened. Doh!
The coffee table is by Isamu Noguchi, one of my fave designers of the mid-century. And yes, their is a lighter and ashtray; my hubs smokes as do some of my friends and once in a blue moon, I like a ciggie with my cocktails when I entertain.
Turquoise and orange are a fabulous combination for just about everything. I really have to curb my flea marketing, but the hunt is so much fun and damn, I DO have too many tiki mugs. Shit.
Hahahaha, that is not a bath mat, but that IS an idea and I do like Ikea. It is a quilt and then a flokia throw on top, so the damn kitties don't ruin the couch. Maybe a cute bath mat would be better!
We painted the wall ourselves and that star burst is a light fixture that was on an old 60's apartment that got torn down. I grabbed that sucker and cleaned it up. The one fancy pantsy lamp with the buck stitched shade is by Heywood Wakefield. I am cheap but cheerful! Hahaha
Thanks everyone; I would love to see your homes and gardens and a little slice of your life. Would you share here sometimes? That would be awesome! I get such great ideas from seeing Pat's garden. I would love to see some of your collections. Oh, and please upload a pic of the Duncan Fife. And paint it if you want; who cares! : )
I would paint it too! It's yours! Painted furniture is so individual! Do it! I paint most of mine now. I like the shabby chic look, that requires lots of paints. It's clean and light and lovely. Mary_Mary, you are quite welcome. You have fab taste & lots of ideas!

I love knowing thise designers names Mary. Thank you. I like looking stuff up. I've heard of Wakefield. Good stuff.
I'll take a pic of my table. It's pulled out now, I was cleaning cobwebs.
Love it! It looks so California cool.
I adore your coffee table. I've been coveting one like it for years and years. It's so lovely and organic. If I ever win the lotto, I've always promised myself I would buy an Eames chair and ottoman for reading.
You have wonderful style Miss Mary Mary. Thanks for sharing your pics. And no home pics are complete without the requisite furry child. (My mom bought me 3 small Jonathan Adler vases in 2000 off Ebay, my kitty knocked them off my dining room table last week, killing one of them. They were circa 1996. I was sad, but at least my cat wasn't cut by the shards.)
I recently discovered an online design magazine, Lonnymag. I love looking and dreaming. Matchbook is another one too. I like free magazines to get ideas and save pages to a lookbook.

Here's some more designers of the mid-century that get me all flibbergitted:
Eero Saarinen
Alexander Gerard
Charles and Rae Eames (my role models)
George Nelson
Herman Miller
O, Beth, I am sorry about your furbaby knocking down your Johnathan Adler figures. His stuff is so much fun and cute. But, what are you gonna do? We love our purr demons, don't we?
Online magazines that are fun to read and look at for ideas are:
Wallpaper
Atomic Ranch
Dwell
Readymade
They all make me swoon! I wish I had the bucks to get an Eames Lounger and Footrest, too!
O, Rox, thank you very much for the kind words. I still want to have a dance party / slumber party and all the Dirty Dishettes are invited!
I thought the cat was pretty too. Sorry I didn't mention her. I was too excited by the decor. Gawd, your house is so clean. ~hangs head~
You know how much cat hair we vacuum up each day? I could knit a sweater and a car cover for each of you! Hahaha
... and don't open the hall closet! You could get a concussion.
I love this house! And I always love to see when someone has taste, as I don't..lol
You and me both, Corina.
That orange!! I friggin love all of it!
That orange!! I friggin love all of it!
Love Love Love!!
I was wondering, do you do retro holiday decorating, Mary? Do you have old ornaments and such?
Dear DD,
My Xmas decorating includes a bright lime green aluminum Xmas tree with white and pink vintage ornaments, a white flocked door wreath, Holt Howard Xmas figurines and candle holders and candy dishes and card container. More Laugh-In than Burl Ives. Have a holly, jolly GROOVY Xmas.
Start a business and come to PA immediately please! Absolutely adore this style and wish I had even an ounce of that talent. Beautiful!!
