Oz Smokes
Australia has decided to put these pics on cigarette packs. They want other countries to follow and the US has been threatening this for awhile now. I find it insulting. Nothing will deter a smoker who wants to smoke and having to carry that ugliness around is insulting to my intelligence. If the governement doesn't want us smoking, then make it illegal. They make far too much money off taxes to do that. The high cost is almost all tax now and they don't fool me. Tobacco is not harmful anyway, it's the chemicals the goverments lets the manufacturers put it in that will harm you. I've been seriously looking at tobacco growing sites and roll your own equipment. They have some real progressive stuff now.
Do I wish I didn't smoke? In a way. But, only because of my dependance on it and government interfearance in the industry. I enjoy my cigarettes and take responsibility for any repercussions that may or may not happen. I am an adult and it's legal. This ban on smoking has become idiotic. Of course you don't smoke in a hospital or school. Any idiot knows that. But, no smoking in bars is killing business. No smoking outside?? Are you kidding me? People telling other people what to do is out of hand. I am damn tired of it. That package is just a slap in the face instult while they rake in their dough. Governments can kiss my ass. I don't need a big brother. No adult does.

OMG! I saw this earlier and didn't realize it was the packaging! Yuck. People will just use cigarette cases more. But here in Indiana they have lots of tobacco shops, you go in and roll your own ciggies and cigars. The machines are actually fun to watch. I haven't smoked since 1974 but I will tell you, lots of people that never ever smoked die from lung cancer daily. It's everywhere. You get cancer from food, the air, fabrics, deodorant, hairspray, hair color, just from being fat even! I don't advocate smoking and I am glad my kids don't do it. I am sure you won't want Lissa to smoke either. But the smoking rule at the bars & clubs is really dumb. They could at least make it ok outside on the patio areas. On the dance floor is dangerous tho, my daughter got a leg burn from some idiot smoking on the dance floor a few years ago, when she still went to clubs. All over our town and even on my office door theres a huge pink sign warning people not to smoke within 8 ft of the door. They are all over town, its hideous. & the smoking nazi came by here the 1st day the rule became law to make sure we weren't in violation and had it posted. I wonder what they use the taxes for too? Supposedly for education. I highly doubt that. They pocket it and laugh. I also don't get gas stations saying they only make about 1 1/2 - 2 cents a gallon on gas and thats how they make a living. The rest is taxes and overhead and supply. I call BS on that too. Gas prices are also manipulated. It's breaking us! Yet, nothing we can do about it.

I had a friend die of lung cancer..never smoked in her life. You're correct. I think the second hand smoke info is mostly bull too, but, I won't inflict it on others.
I tell Lis the truth. I say do not ever smoke because it will take up all your money and you won't get any new high heels or fancy purses because of it. She hates that idea.
yeah, the additives....most people don't realize all the additives in cigarettes---how about cigarettes have to be labeled accurately with what they contain???? tobacco is a very small % of what's in a cigarette....smokers i know who switch to pure tobacco can't stand it---it doesn't 'taste' right to them, yeah cuz they're use to smoking CRAP!
They have Indian pure brand here, but, it's a bit harsh for me. I've read at roll sites that have advised me about mellow pipe blends comparable to the ultra lites I smoke. I want to try them.
ps..thos pics! Anyone who would blow smoke in a kids area is a pig.
We have those in Canada, hasn't made a bit of difference. Can you still smoke in malls and restaurants there? Not here, my oldest is 14 and doesn't remember every seeing someone smoke in a mall or restaurant. You can't smoke within 15ft of a business's door here and they're talking about making smoking in cars with children illegal. Oh, also possibly banning smoking in city parks/playgrounds.
It all sounds pretty stupid, when I look at it typed out...but smoking is so taboo here that my kids think it's weird when they actually see someone smoking.
I would never smoke in a car with a child. That's gross. I smoke in my car alone though. No one will ever tell me I can't smoke in my own car. When they do, I will head for the hills and become a survivalist with an anti government agenda. (I'm about there now.) No, you can't smoke in restaurants here. I haven't been to a mall in years, but, doubt it.
6 months ago I bought a electric cig injector, a box of filter tubes and a bag of plain tabacco. I can roll a pack in about 2 minutes and an entire carton for only $10. Beats the hell out of paying the goverment $100 a carton for a load of junky chemicals. The cigs come out just like the manufacted kind and they taste great, better actually. I know it's "bad" to smoke but more people need to figure this out and just roll their own.
Couldn't have said it better.
i gave up smoking when, because tailor mades were so expensive, i started rolling 'chop chop' - illegal tobacco. it tasted like shit and my fingers stained yellow. i was 50 and, smoking wise, felt i'd hit rock bottom. now i only smoke at parties, just one or two and im happy with that. would hate to go back to having to cart a pack of fags around with me everywhere i go, each and every day. here in aus the pictures are working because less teenagers are smoking and thats the target market for all the anti smoking campaigns. trying to stop young people getting hooked. as for banning smoking in bars thats working out fine. smoking in bars has been banned here for years and the bars are still full. you dont end up with clothes stinking of stale tobacco and eyes watering from smoke. which happened to me at bars even when i smoked. i dont think it should be banned, i dont believe in banning. its a pity its so dam addictive! i still enjoy a smoke but i hate the idea of getting so hooked again that i'd have to have a pack on or around me all the time. i'm glad those days are over. but i like letting smokers know that you can quit and still enjoy one now and again. its called controlled addiction and i completely support that. you do need to go without for at least 6 months before experimenting with controlled addiction and you may suffer withdrawals but they are easy to ignore if you enjoy being smoke free enough.
Anon, give me more info, please. A link maybe?
Lia, parents should try what I did. Lis was bragging about all her money, so I said, let's pretend you smoke. Okay. I took all her money and said, now you're broke because you had to buy smokes. She said, I am never smoking.
I think it is great. If people are stupid enough to smoke, who cares about insulting them or humiliating them. Smokers cost the US a lot of money in heath related costs. I say make em 20 bucks a pack. Stupid smokers will buy them and tax the shit out of em. I sure as hell hope you don't smoke near that kid. And are you saying that non-smokers should be subjected to second hand smoke in a bar???? They can smoke 60 feet from the entrance. I think most smokers are humiliated when they smoke in public.
DD, more info from me the cig roller? I live in NY and smokes are $100 a carton. I go to a local smoke shop and buy tubes with filters. They have Kings, 100's and menthol. Usually about $3 for 1,000 tubes (a carton) and a bag of tabacco is usually about $20 (I can get about 2 1/2 cartons from a large bag)they have different types so you tell them what brand cig you smoke and they'll give you a tabacco that is similiar. I bought the electric injector for about $80. So my start up cost was about the price of a carton of regular cigs. You place a tube on the end of the injector, place the tabacco into the slot and push a button. It shoots the tabacco into the tube and there you have it. A fresh cig, no chemicals for a fraction of the cost. They taste great and burn just like a regular smoke. It takes a couple shots to get used to how much tabacco to load into the injector, but you figure it out quickly. I am so glad I've done this. My husband and I both smoke (I know... so bad, we shouldn't) and we save a good $600 a month on our nasty little habit doing it like this.
*200 tubes in a box make a carton. Don't know where I came up with 1,000.
*tobacco. Jeesh. All this smoking is affecting my brain :P
Initially, the ban on smoking in bars and restaurants hurt business, but it subsequently helped these businesses as people like me who avoided going to them, started using them because we didn't have to eat smoke. So that argument is invalid.
The problem is that WHEN ONE PERSON SMOKES, EVERYONE SMOKES. Smokers don't realize that.
Your rant is your addiction talking and I know that first hand.
Why doesn't someone come up with a personal smoking booth where smokers can get their fix without the rest of us suffering? Then we could all be happy.
