The table
There's the old Duncan Fife. It has the brass feet and glass rollers. It's not precious to me, it's handy. It doesn't take up the whole room and those leaves have slidder supports that come out in a jiffy so I can roll out pie dough or work on projects. Very sturdy. Unusual six legged construction. The legs actually move out with the leaves. You don't see that often. I know the floor is dirty, I'm mopping right now and scrubbing spilled paint. I have a box of replacement tiles out which I may or may not get to today. People say I should refinish it, not paint it. Oh, the sin of paint. (Besides, I ruined the finish with a hot turkey one Thanksgiving) They don't realize I live in a homesteader's cabin. I really do. It's rough in here, but, cozy. Ugly as fuck, but, what are you going to do? I'll take pics after I finish cleaning. There's an old wooden chair I painted. I have two. Another whatever. You can sit on it, that's all I care about. I want to live in Mary or Beth's house. But, here I sit and it's free. You can't complain about free.

I painted a drop side table last fall & gave it to my son for his house. I had to use a sander on it 1st. That slick finish can't hold paint. It's about 6 ft long with drop sides that work well when pulled out but guess what they did with it? They moved it to the garage for beer pong! LOL. Well, it was $25, so w/e. At least they use it for soemthing. & I guess they play beer pong alot, so it gets used. I loved it tho and nearly kept it, but in my heart I bought it for his house, not mine. So, I couldn't keep it. I dont need it. But yea, when you paint those slots where the table sides go into the groove, remember paint will make that a tighter fit. After I painted that table last fall, it looked great, but putting the sides up is really squeaky now! Squuuu-eeeeek!!! LOL! & it rubs the paint off in there too, so w/e. It just looks better with wear I say. What color do you want that table? I am really going back in time, I am loving blue all over again & plan to use lots of blue in my kitchen pretty soon. I painted that table last year black for him.

I have white and pink. Probably white. I have to sand it?? Eww.
ps..bet you kid has the prettiest beer pong table in the whole crowd.
Oooh! White, yes!!! My favorite. Yea, sorry. But if you dont sand it, you'll be able to take your fingernail across it and scratch off the paint. It won't hold. OMG, it will look amazing white. Perfect choice. You could apply a sealing wax too if you still use it in the kitchen. It offers even more protection. I heard you can even paint laminate counter tops, but how scary would that be? I have thought about it. But it really seems like it would scratch off and bubble up from water. But pics I have seen of it look like granite! Tempting. Have fun. Do Before and After pics!

I love your drop leaf table and your parquet floors. Did you score the table in town? Very cool. I found a small vintage round table for my "dining nook." It will flip and stand against the wall if needed. Not that I have people over.
I'd like to find some mismatched chairs and paint them too and cover the seats with bright graphic printed fabric. I'd love to find faux bamboo dining chairs and paint them robin's egg blue. But I have 2 black and gold hitchcock chairs that my grandmother had bought before she died. My moms sharing a lot of things with me now that I have my own place, she's thrilled I dig all the family stuff. None of it terribly valuable, but it is to me since I didn't have grandmothers around growing up. I need to find some flea markets. I live about an hour from rich horse country, Middleburg, VA. I bet there might be some good stuff out there

This is something I found to try on my Formica counters in my kitchen. I am totally doing this!!!

If you want granite countertops but dont wanna pay for them, me neither! Do this!!!

I'll paint it, but, I'm not sanding it. Not doing it. Nope.
I mostly cover it with old flowerdy 50's table cloths so maybe I shouldn't bother?
Table cloths and pillowcases and runners are THE best magicians; they can cover a scratch, a stain, a small tear and make everything look happy! Also, yardage of the Cuban oilcloth in bright, beautiful floral patterns. Easy to clean and wipe off because of the plastic finish.
Pat, you can come live in my place any ol' time. The more the merrier. You would just have to put up with 3 (asshole) cats. Haha We can watch old movies, drink cocktails and light our ciggies with that table lighter.
Your table is awesome! Talk about form and function and the morphing of Art Deco lines into Modern. Look at those functional legs! That is a tried and true beautifully crafted furniture piece.
PS - The chair has such personality and I love the color combo. Stars are wonderfully nostalgic shapes. Reminds me of a chair you would find in a salon or sitting room pre-Depression era. I want to sit on it and drink tea and Absinthe.
Antique Roadshow will curse you!
Ok, I just noticed the parquet floor. Wow - gorgeousness!!!
Todays comment on the sink hole.
All the big trucks (25) came in to save the day. Following them must have been the clown cars. The first thing they did was to put a boat in the sink hole to look around. They tied it up to a nice shady cypress tree. You know, the things that are sinking in the hole. Do I have to go any further with this. You know what comes next! Yes, the tree sunk taking the boat with it. And all the other clowns from clown college helped to save their colleagues. These are the brains we are depending on to save us from the big boom! The hole is still growing in size!
Mary..Aww, my stuff is just old crap and I know it. My parquet floor is that cheap ass tile Alco had on sale for a buck a box. It was that or black. Not much choice here. I got extra to fix it with though. Glad I thought of that because it's beat to shit now. I'm brewing earl grey with honey right now though. Do join me.
OMFG Jane. I am flabbergasted. Did they get it on film?
damn jane!!!! that is definitely a bunch of clowns and they expect to fix it?!?! FUCK!!!
Well dang, I don't see your stuff as junk at all. I really admire do-it-yourself types. I see design and beauty everywhere when you post your things. Do you ever look at Design Sponge - the before and after stuff? So great to see dull things have life in them again.
I don't know what Alco is, but fuck me, I want to go to one and get buck-a-box tile! Can we have tea first and then go?
I'm sure they are taping everything, but I don't know that we will ever see it. We won't really know anything they don't want us to know. The hole is now 300 ft.+ wide and 330 ft. deep. It looks so much bigger, but I was never able to judge the size of anything by sight.
This is just the beginning. A lot of strange stuff is always happening along that highway. When 9/11 happened, this area was heavily patrolled and protected--air, land and water.
LOL yep. Alco is our only department store. Only one in town. It's small and goofy. Design Sponge is cool, thanks for turning me on to it. I marked it.
Jane, how close is it to your house? Any danger?
Jane if the butane goes boom & you need a place to live (and don't mind snow in the winter), I have extra rooms!
Aww. People on here are so nice.
We have Alco. I am just north of Indianapolis. I like Alco! It's fun. It goes in towns that don't have much. Like 1 grocery store. But for crissakes, we have 1 corner block area in our town that has, no Sh**....7...count 'em SEVEN beauty shops!!! Cracks me up. No idea how they stay in business. We do have Subway and most all of the shi**y fast foods. But 1 grocery store, which is mean! They have the prices set to Ohio prices, which are higher, just because they can. We have no options. We alos have no laundry mats, if somebody needs one, sorry. No car wash. & lots of abandoned old business buildings just left sitting. We recently got a Casey's General Store. Which is nice. But still not a grocery store. I go out of town mostly, to Meijer or Kroger. Wal Mart is ok for things other than produce, but their produce is rotten. So, its a bother to go there for me. Unless I have to. Dollar General is always busy here. They have alot more groceris now too, so that helps the ppl on that end of town. I hate the politics that causes this lack of competition here. It's who you know and how much you can grease their palms!! But I digress, Alco is very cool. They have really nice yard stuff. Big Lots is a fav of mine. Its not in town either. Sucks!!! But have fun with the table, if you can't sand it, use a paint primer, you wont regret that. :)

I was just thinking, DON'T paint it, DON'T paint it as I was looking at that awful chair someone destoryed with paint. I think painted furniture can be very well done....but I tend to want to keep older pieces in their original form.
