Fried flowers
Presentation, right? LOL. I just thought, man, you haven't had fried green tomatos yet and it's almost Fall! So, I quick ran out and got some and on the way back to the house, I noticed the squash blossoms and remembered so many people on here telling me to cook them. I did. I don't know what the frick I'm doing, so I opened them and looked for critters (none) and washed them. Pulled out the stamen and breaded them. I put cream cheese in some of them, it was the only cheese I have that doesn't come in individual wrappers. They're good. You were right. But, I think I just like fried breading. I do taste the blossom a little. The cream cheese ones were pretty yummy and it's a fun novelty to have with the maters. Nothing beats a fried green tomato though. Sooooooooo good. It's hard to type with my fingers reaching into the plate. Nom nom.

had FGT y'day and I also fried up an entire yellow crook neck squash. I love some good old fried okra too. FGT is the best. I wonder how they'd be on a BLT? I bet GOOD!!! My daughter eats turkey bacon and avocados for breakfast and loves it. She doesn't eat bread so that is filling for her and sounds yum. Ok, what doesn't sound good with bacon? Aww jeez, I just remembered that bacon truck from last week. :(

Avacado sounds real good with bacon. Been meaning to try it. I don't know if FGT would work with BLT, but, why not find out? How do you fry your squash. I've done it two ways and it's pretty bland. Even breaded, it's not exciting. Do you have the secret?
Do you suppose I could freeze green tomatos to fry this Winter or would they go mushy? No harm in trying, I guess.
My dog has been picking squash blossoms off with her teeth and very carefully laying them on the kitchen floor for us. Maybe she's trying to tell me something?
No doubt. She's a culinary canine. Probably been watching Alton Brown when your back is turned.
I think your green tomatoes would get mushy frozen. I think you can fry just about anything. Look at what they do at the Texas State Fair. Fried butter! I just can't imagine how they do that, much less how it would taste.
I'm eating them cold from the fridge now and they're good that way too. They'd be better with a little dab of sour cream, but, I'm out of it.
Ate at a place today that served FGT as an appetizer--5 slices for $10.
Girl, you had a fortune on that plate.
Are fried green tomatoes really just that - sliced, breaded, fried?
I'm from Austria so I never had them - but it looks like some of my tomatoes won't make it all the way this year so I might as well try it..
Anything else you can do with them?
Yep. Dip them in egg, then light flour, then breadcrumbs. Nothing has the sweetness, yet, bitter bite of a green tomato. You have to try them to believe how good they are. I tried many recipes but, this simple one is best. Oh, for best results, let the tomato rings sit on a paper towel for a bit before breading. Takes the juice out.
