yep there's a few pink ones!! :) it's amazing how the purple ones have spread....i planted the purple ones like 7 years ago and never planted anymore!!! how some turned pink, i really don't know, but there's a few pink ones......
I think the pink ones might be wild. I get wild pinks here. Do you suppose MG loving birds came from one plant somewhere else to eat your seeds and pooped? It might be.
could be via poop, but i don't have pink morning glories growing anywhere else and i dunno of any bird who eats the seeds (i know the seeds are toxic to humans).....could be some hybrid with the purple that just morphed thru the years....purple ones are hardy as fuck, i had blue ones planted once and they grew, bloomed and that was it, just one year, never came back.....these purple ones are legion!! i always save seeds to give to people too....i usually get over a gallon container of seeds every year from 'em---and those are ones i actively TRY to get....
Can you please tell me how to root morning glories? Do I cut the stem, place in water, root and then plant? I'm not sure how to transplate. I have a morning glory bush in my yard that I would love to clone and am not sure how. Thanks!
i don't know how to root morning glories....you could cut a stem off and see if it roots in water....they usually die off in the winter though and a friend in CA even said hers don't last year round....save the seeds and plant them where you wish....
I'd just take the seeds and plant them in the Spring. They're trouble to move. The seed secret is letting them soak overnight and then scoring them with a knife. They come up real easy.
Tia, you're right. Could be the soil is diff in spots. Like Hydrangea colors. Birds eat crazy shit though. Birds like my toxic poke.
that could be---soil being different....the pink ones are only on my 'magic mountain' spot, hence named as that is where my red gladiola and then red rose bush grew from no where.....true, birds can eat stuff we can't.....
i don't usually soak/score morning glory seeds, but i do moonflower seeds....i didn't get any moonflowers planted this year...if anyone wants morning glory seeds, just let me know!!!
I think I'll do a seed post and list what I have and others can add what they'll share. I have other pics to put on too. Sorry, sorry, sorry. I have to get to work and stop yaking.
Helllooooo in there???? LOL. How do you get your mail? Thats taking over, soon you won't be able to see your cool house! Farmers here spray them and they reallly dont want anybody to grow them on a fenceline along a field. They hate them! Watch out they dont get under your siding or roof, they will take over and cause severe damage. I like them but they are going to make you a prisoner in there!! We'll have to go hack you outta there girl! I have to relocate my lilac bush this fall because it's planted too close to the main drain to the septic tank and the roots will get in and clog it up and back up everything in the house. It's gotten big too, so it will be a hard job. Not fun. Willow trees are the worst tho. They will root thru all your pipes. Bad news.
actually the morning glories aren't even close to the house! they're over an archway about 3' from the front porch steps.....now the front porch STEPS are covered with honeysuckle :) the honeysuckle is growing somewhat on the house and the wisteria is creeping up into the front yard and along the side of the house....
i get my mail at my side door (driveway side)....only thing i have along the driveway is a pot of lavender this year---that was there last year! so no worries about the mail! :) but if i sit on my porch steps i am really 'undercover' and no one can see me!!! no need to hide though, i just plop my chair out in the street in front of the house.....
Looking for the ever evasive blimp, no doubt! It does look cool. Kind of magical. Do you just cut it back in the fall? Like to the gound? My gardens are a wreck right now. The heat and lack of rain made a mess, just ugly this year and nothing I have been proud of. Too hot to keep on top of it too and I work almost 50 hrs a week. So, I did hardly anything once that heat arrived. The worst year ever for my flower gardens. This fall I am going to lay down that black garden cloth and mulch over it, next year I will have only my perennials and way less weeds. I am not trying to plant annuals anymore. Its a waste of money and my perennials are plenty. I need way less work and upkeep. I used to really love it, now its just a PIA. Right now I am just kinda glad things are starting to die.
ALWAYS on blimp patrol!! :) i can hear it from about 5 miles away!!! once they die down i will pull 'em out and then the seeds go EVERYWHERE!
it was so dry this year i watered my perennials in the side yard so they didn't die---my huge butterfly bush and other plants....i gotta send in pix of that to pat!!
some annuals, like the morning glories come back every year...i had some marigolds come back every year too if you open the seed pods in the fall.....
**Oh Oh! I have admired this yard thingy everyday on my way to work for years. Today I saw the lady was having a yard sale and it was for sale! I stopped, it was $20, SOLD! I was late to work but didnt care. I will share a pic with you guys. I need ideas about how to use it. I think it could be used inside or outside. It's so cool. I would kicked myself had I not turned around and went back for it. It's very unusual and shabby chic style. I am excited to pick it up later! Its not a living thing so I can handle it! Will send a pic later!
