HERE is the rage post of the day. Christians are now adopting abandoned embryos. Oh, yes, I typed that right. The must give life people are worried about poor embryos being left by people who decided they didn't need them. Good grief on a popsickle stick, this is not a baby. It's some cells which might turn into a baby. If the pro-life people (I hate that unfair term) want to walk their talk and adopt embryos I say more power to them. They should, if that's what their heart tells them, but, there is no way in hell they should be using any federal funds to do it. You have got to be kidding me. Our country is broke as a joke and we're as close to civil war as we've been since, oh, the civil fucking war and these do gooder know it all soul savers have the nerve to think this is okay with the rest of us?? No. If this is okay, then abortion should be paid for by Title 19 and not one of them should even open their trap about it. Damn!

Miss Tia, your first sentance said it all. And it's true.
As a person that did in vitro, and would definitely not have been able to have a baby without doing it, and am currently paying $400/yr for an embryo that we have frozen, I feel like I can speak intelligently about this. My husband and I had great discussions about what we would do with any leftover embryos. I don't think we're going to have to address it because we do want another child and will use that frozen embryo in a couple of years.
That being said, I do believe it is a nice option for couples that can't have children of their own to consider adopting an embryo. The woman still gets to experience pregnancy and childbirth. I have a very good friend that is considering doing this exact thing. I don't agree however, to the government funding the saving of embryos. I agree with you DD, that these are just cells with the potential to becoming babies. And I agree with you Miss Tia, that these embryos may become babies that are then not cared for properly. This is not something to be entered into lightly and should not be aided by the government.
This doesn't seem ok to me. I wouldn't want random nobody's taking my "paid for" embryos and making a baby out of it, if that would still be viable. If it's mine and I paid for it, I have the say over it. Is this people that abandoned theirs? *I didn't read the article. What about abandoned sperm donations? Thats a part of what makes a baby possible. I don't get this, there are needy kids all over in THIS country that need a family. Nobody ever considers them. Never. They want somebody's designer "child of color" of the month or a petri dish mess somebody decided they didn't want. Kids need homes. Those things DO NOT need homes. GD ppl, get a brain! People need to live "in the now".

We have absolutely NO shortage of orphaned and abandoned kids on this planet. STOP BREEDING, humans, and adopt! The only government funding I would support would be a spay and neuter program, not only for animals, but people, too. It's all so self-serving and selfish.
as the wife of a man who donated sperm and, years later, recognised a picture of his daughter in a newspaper. she was looking for her 'donor'. i can offer some insights into the people who are 'donated' to strangers. most of them have real identity issues, spend their lives searching for their biological family and all in all are pretty angry about being given away like that. and really, after meeting a lot of people who have been created and adopted out in this way, and after meeting and getting to know the son and daughter that michael 'donated' i cant help but feel that its like giving away your children. i also think that we are more willing, under these circumstances, to give our own flesh and blood to complete, unknown strangers, than we would be willing to give away our pets. the whole process hasent been thought through beyond offering infertile people the so called right to have children. not to mention the multi billion dollar industry created around world wide baby trafficking. selling frozen embrios is just another money making scam and it further commodifies humans. grrrrrr..... dont get me started
I belong to an infertility support group. There are a few women there who are on wait lists for embryo adoption. The wait at the clinics around here is about a year before you can be considered. They are not doing it to "save a child" they are doing it to have a chance to make their dreams come true.
Side note. Would it surprise you that of the regulars in our group, most of us are pro-choice. We may not be able to become parents naturally, but would never deny a women the right to choose what is right for her own life.
This is just a distraction from the real issue. That you can no longer get a 32oz soda in NYC!
In all seriousness. Can I have an embryo that is a genius, attractive and has a sense of humor. Really this is the next step right?
